This thread will attempt to provide a place to discuss past/present/future PC gaming deals. While mainly focusing on Steam games, any standout sales may also be presented. I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

Just asking (not arguing); what has Adam Baldwin done to be deemed human garbage? I liked some of his acting roles (characters), but generally am unimpressed at the acting abilities of any Baldwin.

I noticed that he has done prior voice acting for shows and video games.

Hm. Well, it was funny because I didn't realize he was "that guy"; I just figured he was another one of the conservative, not-very-good-actor Baldwin brothers like William.

It could be a dog whistle or it could just be Wardell saying that he got a guy whose done a fair bit of voice work in the industry (some of it in very popular games)--I didn't realize that was the case either when I posted my comment.

If the harassment allegations against him are true, he's a dirtbag. I don't know whether they are, but based on my time hanging out in the Stardock forums back in the day, he seemed like a nice guy but an ultra-conservative. He seemed to surround himself, at least at his place of business (which, as a private company, is his prerogative) with like-minded people in that sense as well. Much of the political discussion on the forums revolved around how anthropogenic climate change is a hoax and low taxes on corporations benefited everyone and the only people who would disagree with that are welfare queens.

He went on a homophobic rant about a man marrying his son to explain how he thinks finances work for gay couples, then called people "butthurt" and "fatties" for disagreeing. He also said Democrats started the KKK--I don't know if that's true, but parties now aren't the same as parties 100 years ago. And he's very pro-gun and pro-Confederate Flag.

He's your typical big, dumb ultraconservative who hates taxes, LGBT, and minorities. No different from my father and most of my uncles, but he's famous and has Twitter. I have no problem with hating someone and liking their work, though. I love Ender's Game and hate Orson Scott Card.

Baldwin was heavily involved in and lobbed much of the fuel on the fire when the Gamergate nonsense got started.  He made a lot of pretty vile tweets, most of which he deleted at one point while having a whiny fit about Twitter.   Politics aside, the dude is just an asshole.

Edit: Wardell was always posting  pro-Gamergate stuff and is an ass too but not to the over-the-top extent that Baldwin is.

I was looking for a good website that talked about the party shifts in the US, but then I came across a bunch of websites saying it is a myth and now I just don't want to look at the internet anymore today.

That whole myth is a vast oversimplification of history. The Klan didn't arise from the Democratic Party, but the Klan and similar organizations were designed to bolster support for Democrats and keep Republicans out of office, generally by keeping blacks from voting. It wasn't until the civil rights movement took off properly that the racist elements in this country started to shift from Democrat to Republican, finding the GOP's "big tent" to be more accommodating to their views. As Blade stated, the reality is that times have changed and just because some Republicans may not be comfortable with the fact that their party is home to (and their president is suspiciously welcoming to) white nationalist elements, it doesn't mean that they can simply ignore the facts on the ground by sticking their fingers in their ears and saying, "Yeah, well, you were racist first!"

Well on point! To add it’s pretty much about divide and conquer - rather divide to sustain and maintain power. The elite used race to divide, stamping “whiteness” as an identity value to give hope to poor whites as they competed for jobs against free blacks. From this came a propaganda to dehumanize blacks as seen from the infamous film Birth of a Nation which eventually lead to Jim Crow Laws (might have happened during the same time or shortly before) etc.

Shortly after the civil rights movement (maybe during) one of the leaders who tried to lift the veil and unite poor people regardless of race was Fred Hampton whom was, one of the leaders of the Black Panther Party in Chicago. He even said in one of his speeches, “Black power to Black People. White Power to White People...” He was assassinated by CPD whole sleeping in his home. I think he was only 21.

Anyways....whose excited to hear more about those new cards tomorrow huh? [emoji1]

In short, both parties have become douchier than ever over the last twenty years, and we'd be better off if they both went the way of the US whig party.
 
When did this turn into a political discussion? Anyway, the idea that somehow all the racists left the Democratic party is incorrect. Hell, my 80 year old lifelong Democrat neighbors are racist as hell. But, to give one example, up until 2009 the Senate had a former member of the KKK serving, and he was also a lifelong Democrat. He has such wonderful accomplishments as filibustering the Civil Rights Act, and being the only guy to oppose Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas, and those two guys only had one thing in common...

Anyway, the moral of the story is beware of anyone, on either side of the isle that acts based on race. It's both a form of bias and a tool used to manipulate others. Heck, my Facebook feed has become overwhelmed by look at what this white guy did type posts, like their race has any damn thing to do with them being an idiot. Also, count me in on hoping both parties implode...

Krazy, meet Straw Man.

No-one made this argument. Of course there are racists who are Democrats, just as there are black conservatives. It doesn't make either one of them particularly common.

(For the record, it became a political discussion when I unwittingly brought up a very controversial figure in the gaming community in the context of a forthcoming game. Plus you haven't been here long enough if you don't know that people here will argue about just about anything, especially if it's a slow-game-news day.)

I mean, I'm not disappointed or surprised.  The amount of "both parties are just as bad" bs in here when one party is clearly the white nationalist party just reinforces why gamers get a bad rep and why gamergate happened in the first place.

Look, I'm a libertarian, but it's utterly specious and nonsensical to claim that one of the two major parties is a white nationalist party. On the basis of what? White privilege, implicit bias, or some other contrived nonsense to label (based on race mind you) the other as abhorrent? Of course there are racists in the Republican party, there are racists everywhere, but that doesn't make the entire party racist anymore than a criminal who happens to be black makes all blacks criminals. This sort of thinking is how you get racism in the first place.

I'm married to an immigrant, but don't like illegal immigration. I must be a xenophobic racist right? I'm white, hell that makes me double racist, right? I didn't like Hillary, now I'm a double racist sexist right? Or how about this, how about the idea that my views and my politics are driven by things other than sex and race? How about the entirely non-racist, non-sexist, non-bigoted way of looking at things that says some people don't use those things as criteria when deciding their political agendas. This is an utterly foreign concept to some, when all they they have is identity politics. And that's the problem... but yeah, label darn near half the country as white supremacists, because after all they don't align with you politically so it must be so.

I'll leave it at that, but if we want less racism in this country, we can start by not applying gross generalizations to groups of people.

anybody try that little ceasers extra most meat pizza or whatever?  the commercials make me gag, it looks nothing like a meat lovers pizza from anywhere else.

I have an appointment at 11:00 to have my oldest housecat put to sleep.  She has done remarkably well for her age until recently, over the last month or so she has been losing her marbles, for lack of a better explanation.  I will hear her yowling at night (she is deaf now so she is super loud) and get up to find her standing facing a wall and once I flip a light switch on and get her attention she stops and wanders off.  And most recently she stopped using her litter box and has started using the bathroom wherever she happens to be standing.  I got her around the time I turned 20 and I turned 40 earlier this year so she has been around for a long time.  I have other pets but it is going to seem weird for a while I am sure.

I'm sorry to hear it, man. I grew up with two great cats who were just a couple years older than me, and when we lost them (at ripe old ages like your own, fortunately), it was pretty hard, even though I'd always taken them for granted when they were alive.

I've cut way back on carbs (cause i'm fat AF) and now only eat pizza once in awhile. My wife asked me when I wanted to eat pizza where did I want to get it from the other day and when I answered Little Caesars I'm pretty sure she contemplated divorcing me.

I'm sorry that's happening to you... We had to put one down about two years ago and it's still pretty emotional for both the wife and me. We didn't even really have a choice. He went downhill quick with medical problems. We now have a far more crazy boy, to go along with two girls, and its still... Noticable.

I'm glad we got Ivan, the new boy, as I know I wouldn't really be happy knowing we could support a third cat, cause we had for a number of years by then, but chose not too. It gets a cat out of our adoption agency and let's them take in another.

This is why everyone has Playstation and Switches now.   There aren't even games to support this high level raytracing.

Just finished moving to a new place, and this was an excuse good enough for me to convince my lady that I needed to get a new computer...  So I was able to get one with 1080 Ti...  Not 100% sure if this was a good timing but better than getting nothing I bet.

 
ok, so those are the founder's edition prices that were live at Nvidia.  Here are the "from" prices.  Not that they will be available at retail at this $499 and $699 pricing anyways, with aftermarket coolers and RGB.

FWIW, EVGA has pre-orders currently starting at $750 for the 2080 and $1150 for the 2080ti.

Based on that, I'm guessing the 2070 starts at $550 for a decent model.

So yeah, fuck that. I'll just wait for further 1070s/1080 price drops.

Sorry to hear that, bud. It's always a tough thing to do. I have a 20-year-old too, but she's doing pretty well. It's a small comfort to me that my wife didn't have to suffer through losing the third of three of our cats that she raised from kittens after they were abandoned by their mother in 1998.

If you're trotting out the "I personally didn't own any slaves" argument, I don't even know what to say about that. Sure, pretend there was no lasting harm done to black people in this country due to hundreds of years of oppression and treatment as second-class citizens. If you can live with that, more power to you, I guess.

It's pretty obvious that one of the two political parties in this country has become the de facto home of racists in this country whether its more mainstream members want to admit it or not. I will repeat that straw men will not stand--no one has argued that all Republicans are racists and that would be goofy. However, racists are more likely to vote Republican because they see the Republican Party as the one that more closely mirrors their own values, and the fact that the titular head of that organization winks and nods at racist activity in this country does nothing to erode this view.

lol at people gettin worked up over prices and marketing speak, hows about you hold off for real benchmarks on real games with real drivers. If it brings 2x+ perf instead of the old 1.5x, might it not be worth the slight price increase?

Just so much anger based on nothing at this point other than "Old thing was at this price!!! Why is new thing not at this price!!!" when the 2 may not correlate any more. If it doesnt provide what you deem worthy at that price, then dont buy it and wait for something else, i.e. I dont complain that a ps4 doesnt cost 100$, since thats about what I see it being worth to me, but I dont bitch about it, I just dont buy it

 
I don't really care about benchmarks when GPUs are a thousand dollars.  I'll find one to buy for $300. 

also who is getting worked up and "so much anger"?  Nobody in here.

Those prices seem reasonable to be. I mean it's almost a hundred times cheaper than having sex with a porn star and lasts a hell of a lot longer. I know deals and this seems a very, very good deal to me. Bigly.
