Thanks for the link Mr. Purrsident since apparently leaving my pc on the stream earlier didn't qualify me for a copy.
The link isn't working for me... but I voted for a dog in the US Senate so maybe it's not suppose to.

Edit: Actually, after a couple of refreshes it work.

UbiSoft Forward Sale on Epic Game Store:

https://www.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/comments/hq3owq/egs_ubisoft_forward_sale_rainbow_six_siege_79960/

For those who have $10 coupons (for games over $15), might be some stuff over $15 worthwhile over there.

UPLAY games on Epic should work with direct-link over to UPLAY.

To direct-link: on EGS Launcher, you need to link your EGS account to your UPLAY account...

...So you can let UPLAY do the download instead, if you like.

With $10 Coupon below price (for price without coupon, just add $10):

AC Syndicate: Gold = $8

AC Origins: Gold = $9

AC Origins: Season Pass (only) = $6

AC Odyssey: Gold = $23

AC Odyssey: Ultimate = $29

AC Odyssey: Season Pass (only) = $10

Far Cry 5: Gold = $8

Far Cry: New Dawn Deluxe = $5

GR Breakpoint: Standard (always online) = $10

The Crew 2: Gold (always online) = $12.49

The Crew 2: Season Pass (only) [always online] = $6

Ended up grabbing Doom 64 and Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar.
Doom 64 looks like it'll be enough dumb fun to justify a buck fifty, and Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar just has such a ridiculous backstory that my curiosity got the better of me. The story is just insane. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDyXSCd2Lp0

I fully expect I'll be refunding Grimoire, but after refreshing my memory about the whole insane saga, I just had to see what it ended up actually being like.
Ahh the memories, from like 15 years ago. Crazy Clive. If I remember right he said he was never going to discount the game. It will probably sit in my wishlist forever.

So, after purchasing on EGS and linking to uplay, is the game that was purchased on EGS considered owned by my ubi account?

Yes!

What's nice is: you only have to use UPLAY, if you so desire, after you do the linking.

I have GR: Breakpoint from EGS (bought it a while ago there).

So, log into the EGS Launcher app with your EGS account; select the UbiSoft game to do the linking (GR: Breakpoint in my case); link your UPLAY account trough EGS (by using your UPLAY info, once the box pops up); boot-up UPLAY & sign into UPLAY; and now you will only need your UPLAY account to download & use that game going forward.

Was Far Cry 4 this cheap during the Summer sale?  Might pick it up.  Sort of want the bundle for Blood Dragon and Far Cry 2 but zero interest in Far Cry Primal which jacks the price up another $6.

Will also consider Far Cry 5/New Dawn on Epic because it's just a U-Play key, anyway.  Still have that $10 coupon.

According to ITAD Far Cry 4 was $11.99 during the Summer sale, and it's current $5.99 price on Steam is listed as the lowest price it's been on Steam.

In fact I think most, if not all, of the Far Cry games are at historic lows for Steam.

I think i might just buy fc5 gold for $8ac, which i believe includes the fc3 remaster as part of the season pass content. Then just install them on ubi launcher.

Edit:
Apparently this doesn't work as it should. Just going to keep my current streak of $0 spent on EGS instead of dealing with the headache & support tickets if/when I don't get the season pass content.

So I just installed Observer Observation on xbox game pass and....wow. I usually have a pretty high tolerance for games, even if they aren't amazing I'll stick with it just because but I couldn't take it with Observation. I put in about an hour and a half hoping the game would improve but it was just the same stuff over and over but more annoying each time. The whole gist is that you are an AI on a space station and then an unexplained event happens and then you and 1 crew member try to figure out whats going on. You figure out what is going on by taking control of cameras in the different compartments on the station and slowly panning back and forth and up and down until you find something that you can interact with, not very riveting. Then after a bit you're given control of a ball that reminded me of those things that flew around in HL2 and snapped pictures and you have full control to fly around and interact with stuff. The issue is you're in space floating freely and its super easy to get turned around and struggle to get your bearings (which is likely the point but I just found it annoying). Then the straw that broke the camels back is you're sent out into space to seal hatches and look for points of damage on different parts of the space station and you have to be fairly close to interact with the damaged areas which between that and not knowing where the heck I'm supposed to go, and the poor floating controls that probably made sure I constantly got turned around and looked at the same part of the station numerous times, it just did me in. Life is stressful enough without having to float around in space as a little ball not knowing where the hell to go or what to do while looking through static and fuzzy camera lenses.

TLDR: Skip this and watch Interstellar instead.

This will be every Ubi release going forward until Epic stops cutting checks. It's a perfect win-win for Ubisoft: they get a big payout from Epic for the "exclusive" agreement and people who dislike Epic just buy it from Ubisoft anyway for 100% revenue in Ubi's pockets. Since everyone requires the Uplay client, there's almost no reason to buy from Steam unless you invested your 401k into GabeN Funbux. Yves Guillemot gloated about it with Division 2 that they made a pile of money from EGS haters buying direct while still getting that fat Sweeney bribe money.

I bought Farcry 4, Farcry Primal, and Farcry 5 on Uplay last night for $18 with the coupon.  Apparently that was my first purchase on Uplay after all these years.

I also updated Div 2 with 47gigs so that I could go open my five free loot boxes and then promptly uninstalled it.  My NVMe drive is full.  Really need to purchase another SSD and I don't wanna.

Whew, how big does that make Div2 now? Not CoDMW remake I'd wager, but still.
SSD talk: Even though my Mobo has 2ea - M.2, I just figured out that if I use both for NVMe drives, it disables one of my SATA ports... so now I have to choose between ultra fast reading/writing and furry porn/pirated games/tax docs/drm free installers um, storage. ok... porn

Yeah, most boards have a tradeoff to running muiltiple pci-e drives at full capactiy due to limited lanes. Other boards do things like cut the primary gpu slot from 16x to 8x. I avoid planning to install more than one to an am4 board for this reason.

Frankly, I don't think they are getting many sales. None of those games are must play now, hell most of them are stuff you've feel like you've already played before... Minus the Division 2.

So just to make a correction for anyone interested in checking it out: You're referring to Observation (made by the Stories Untold devs) and not Observer (made by the Layers of Fear devs). I think I made the same mistake at least once.

Anyways, I played this myself about a week or two ago and while I had some of the same gripes as you did (clunky UI, annoying space walk missions), I still very much enjoyed it. I really thought they nailed the atmosphere and overall presentation. It has horror game vibes but is more tense than outright scary. I found the game controlled significantly better with a gamepad over keyboard and mouse and a lot of my issues went away once I made the switch. The story hooked me early on and doesn't overstay its welcome (~6 hours I think). Also might have been the first game I've ever played where I felt chromatic aberration was used well. That the and the film grain effect really enhanced the feel of playing through the cameras of an AI.

So yeah, overall I had a good time with it. Fun sci-fi thriller. The space walk missions were far and away my biggest issues and I got lost for a good 5-10 minutes on the first one, but fortunately there are only two of them. Once you get past them things get much better.

From what I understand the Far Cry 5 DLC (the zombie, vietnam, etc. stuff) can only be bought through U-Play itself? Of course, Far Cry 5 still had Denuvo and it looks like that's part and parcel with U-Play so I doubt it's ever removed.

Never mind, it's included in the gold edition no matter where you buy it. Still has Denuvo, though!

Yeah, I've been buying a lot of titles of Ubi's UPLAY-only games on UPlay or Epic. W/ those versions, you can just deal w/ UPlay; nothing else. And, the other thing: those versions are often cheaper to find, as they're more readily available and also not giving Steam 30% of a sale.

Which means, on Non-Steam versions, they ain't also taking in Steam's 30% cut on the sale price, when the game's on sale. Less middle-men involved.

This is a "Steam"-based thread, so I figured it's worth people knowing: Ubi did it again. Just so they are aware, Ubi games are sticking w/ UPLAY, Stadia, and Epic only.

Yeah, I would expect this as an on-going saga w/ Ubi, especially since that 12% cut from Epic is way less to give up than Steam's 30% cut; and since they've always pushed the heck out of their own client for - like you said - the 100% Ubi sales on UPLAY.

Though, I do wonder if way down the line, some few years down the road, when sales dry up from Epic and UPlay w/ games like AC: Origin, AC: Odyssey, AC: Valhallah, FC6, Division 2, etc - if they'll just drop some of them way later on Steam. You know, kind of like what EA is doing w/ once-exclusive Origin titles, like say Mass Effect 3 and Battlefield 3 + 4.

This reminds me of the proliferation of video streaming services within the past year or two. Netflix (like Steam) is the behemoth, but there seem to be a lot of recent challengers with apparently deep reserves of cash to give it a go. Disney+, Apple+, HBO Max, etc. Everyone seems to be piling in and assembling their own exclusive content along with poaching some of the so-called 'third-party' content like syndicated series. Ordinarily I'd say it was a good thing because of competition, except that the content is being gobbled up for exclusives and so there's little if any pressure to keep prices low for the consumer.

The big difference of course is that the launchers/portals (Steam, Ubi, Epic) are more storefronts while the streaming services are going the subscription route. I guess the closest parallels with gaming would be Microsoft's GamePass and Sony's PlayStation Now, or (to go old-school) GameFly's physical disc rental model that paralleled Netflix's original physical disc rental).

I definitely appreciate the freebies that EpicGames and Uplay are sending my way (just as I appreciated Origin for the same reason) but I don't think in the long run that they will be able to take much market share from Steam. They'll establish their niche--like Disney+ and HBO Max--but they're no threat to Steam in the long run. My Steam game library will continue to dwarf my game library for any other launcher/portal, and although the deals aren't anywhere near as good as they were several years ago, that initial head start was huge.

My main worry is that in the short term that the games market will fragment into several mutually exclusive launchers, each with a stranglehold on certain content.

TL;DR: That last sentence.

That has been kind of happening for a bit, actually.

I remember heck, when some games were basically on Stardock Impulse. GameStop bought Impulse, when Stardock failed to beat Steam - and well, now their games are on Steam. [shrug]

EA was putting all their stuff over on only Origin, since BF3. They only recently decided to bring some of their older stuff (since BF3) over to Steam, since they probably need more sales.

Even Microsoft, who stopped putting stuff on Steam for a while, is finally back to putting stuff on Steam.

Ubi though...had decided to drop Steam, for the time being.

I'm glad to see Sony planning to bring some of their titles to PC. First the Quantic Dream games (Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human) - and now we will be getting Horizon: Zero Dawn. Hoping more come here.

I don't think I really see many - heck, if any games - are actually exclusive to GOG.

We've also been seeing recent Activision titles like say the CoD titles - like Black Ops 4 and COD: MW Reboot - skip Steam entirely and just put their games on Battle.Net.

I don't know if the AAA companies can really afford anymore to really skip out on any platforms anymore, as they will likely...need the $ and sales. They're spending so much on development & marketing - they need these sales. I could see say timed-exclusives becoming more of a thing, though - as games might not be on X service for a time period, but might just come anywhere from 6 months to a few years later, when they really need to make that double-dip $ or need to hit that segment of the audience that they haven't hit yet.

Yeah I'm surprised at this point that the bamco tales of games haven't all gotten the steam and such treatment for the older entries. Given that the games sell stronger on that platform across the board than anywhere else basically especially sony systems it seems like a no brainer.

The Banner Saga 2 is 90% off ($2.49). That's tempting.

TBS2 was Hamble Monthly'd nearly 3 years ago, so it might be ripe for a BTA tier in an upcoming HB.
That's almost a bundle safe price.

Speaking of Humble Monthlies, with the bundle today I'm reminded that Vermintide 1 has got to be the headliner that lost the most value since. It's been in 15 bundles total according to Barter.vg. Vermintide 2 definitely hasn't followed the same pattern.

They haven't from me. I got my Div2 pre-order in with Humble discount just before they went exclusive (and got WD2 free...). They are only a what, 6 month exclusive? Then they end up on GMG, Humble, Fanatical and others. Ubi games tend to depreciate quickly anyway, usually within 3 months.

Not sure if talking about PC Game Pass is better here or in the xbox thread, but I was pretty happy to see Neon Abyss appear on release on Game Pass yesterday. It was probably the best demo I played last month when all those demos went up on Steam.

More Game Pass announcements for today:

Forager (Console & PC) ID@Xbox – July 16
Carrion (Console & PC) ID@Xbox – July 23
Golf With Your Friends (PC) ID@Xbox – July 23
Grounded – Xbox Game Preview(Console & PC) – July 28
Nowhere Prophet (Console & PC) ID@Xbox – July 30
The Touryst (Console & PC) – July 30
Yakuza Kiwami 2 (Console & PC) – July 30

Always wanted to try Golf with Your Friends; hopefully I'll have some friends to play it. I also had a friend that was really into Nowhere Prophet when it first came out, so I'm looking forward to trying that out.

Oh, Banner Saga 3 is leaving 7/31. That's kinda sad. I never got around to playing through 2, but it has always been high on my to-do list. I have 2 through Twitch Prime, but I guess maybe I'll need to keep an eye out for deals on 3 now.

Pretty sure the only one that went exclusive and has come to Steam has been the Crew 2... but it was so horrible in the closed/open beta that it didn't matter what they did with it. (I know when I did feedback on the Crew and newest Ghost Recon betas that one thing I added was... These games are good enough to worry about buying if they don't show up on Steam.)

Probably here. Way too much achievement / MS rewards junkie culture over there.

As someone who carries GP as my only gaming sub, I appreciate the update.

Another layer of material keeping me away from pizza is a bad thing in my book.

Although it looks like there's a lot of spinach/other uncooked greens on those slices, so throwing it away in a paper trash bag seems apt.

That's arugula and it's awesome on pizza, you filthy animal.

For anyone wondering about the Small Business promotion from AMEX after buying from Humble Bundle, it does say 90 days to receive the credit but I received mine 5 days ago on July 10th. Showed up as a credit automatically instead of something to redeem. YMMV.

My payment was no longer pending on the 9th and received credit on 10th.

10 dollar purchase minimum to receive the 5 dollar credit.

That's what could be known as a herbivore staple type food, in the pre-fecal digestion stage, on par with grass clippings. Minimal garden offerings are best for pizza unless you prefer your pie to be pretentious and overpriced.

Five games I'm interested in at least checking out for a little bit, would've been six if I didn't already have GWYF. July shaping up to be one of the better GamePass months in a long time. All that plus Halo 3 and Neon Abyss (which is a decent enough roguelite).

Thanks for the update, that's great to hear. Might have to get RE7 while it's on sale if I can find a filler item.
