• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

My PS4 Pro says that I own over 700 games. While about 30 or 40 of them are PS+ games, I really don't remember buying all of those other ones. I just hope that the majority of them are backwards compatible with the PS5, so that if I ever end up getting around to actually playing them, that I still can.

No denying that Microsoft needed a big marketing win and got it. The $300 price point will resonate with a ton of people, but you actually lose quite a bit (SSD space, disc drive, performance).

Yeah. I feel like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have all decided to screw us over for storage space this generation. I mean, the Switch comes with a tiny ass memory card that basically only fits the operating system, and a few small indie games. You have to buy a bigger card if you want to go digital at all with it. And, since the Switch is selling like crazy, despite the small internal harddrive space, I think Sony and Microsoft feel like they can get away with it too. Very odd from companies that used to offer versions of systems with 2tb hard drives and/or the ability to use a harddrive of whatever size you pleased in the console.

Yeah I mentioned this before but X's still go for up to $350 on ebay depending on what you have. If you're bringing a controller (like an elite) over to next gen you could even sell the new controller to make back some money.

Microsoft is shooting themselves in the foot. Series X's power is going to be underutilized because game developers will have to make sure that their games run perfectly on the much weaker S. It's the same problem that Xbox One X and S owners had, because the whole life of the Xbox One, game developers had to make sure that their games weren't too powerful or graphically intensive to not run on the regular VCR Xbox One. Sony is smart in making PS5 an identical console, but just letting people choose if 4K movie discs are important to them or not.

It's going to be this past console generation all over again, until they drop the PS5 Pro, and the Xbox Series X+. Sony will have the superior versions of third party games, because Microsoft has to have companies dumb the games down to work on the Series S, much like how current third party games are dumbed down for the Switch. You can go on youtube and watch any of the game comparison videos that digital foundry does. 9 times out of ten, the PS4 Pro version of a game was superior to the version running on the Xbox One X, because of the fact that the Xbox One started life as a weaker and more expensive console than the PS4. If Sony says that either version of the PS5 is $400, Microsoft is in trouble. Because, they will be offering the exact same quality third party games that you will see on Series X but for $100 less. And, they won't have to dumb themselves down for a weaker hardware version.

Yeah. I feel like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have all decided to screw us over for storage space this generation. I mean, the Switch comes with a tiny ass memory card that basically only fits the operating system, and a few small indie games. You have to buy a bigger card if you want to go digital at all with it. And, since the Switch is selling like crazy, despite the small internal harddrive space, I think Sony and Microsoft feel like they can get away with it too. Very odd from companies that used to offer versions of systems with 2tb hard drives and/or the ability to use a harddrive of whatever size you pleased in the console.

Ehhh the Switch using non-proprietary microSD cards means all is forgiven IMHO. For people who mostly buy physical games, 32gb is plenty of space for some patches and save data. You can get 128gb for less than $30, and casual players (my girlfriend, for example) may never need a microSD.

I dunno, put the latest COD, Battlefield, Madden and nba2k on that drive and you're pretty full. That's without any of the flavor of the month battle royale games. Maybe smart delivery will limit 4k assets being downloaded on the S?

True, Warzone alone would take up half of it, but hopefully that won't be a standard thing.

Phil Spencer has definitely mentioned that this (Smart Delivery) will be a feature built into the dev kits / SDK. If true, being able to uninstall a SP campaign in a game like CoD after finishing it and only leaving the MP installed would be very cool.

I don't think this is going to be the case. The Series X and Series S have mostly the same hardware and specs except for the GPU. It's specifically designed to play games at the same fidelity as the Series X, just with lower resolution. Games aren't going to have issues with targeting both X and S specs.

Now that they are revealing the Lockhart to be a new Series S(AD) will we ever get a disc to digital conversion process? I would love if we could turn in our old discs and pay a small fee to convert it to digital for any title currently available on the digital store. I thought people were talking about that option back when the last SAD came out, but I didn't know if that was based on something Microsoft said or just randoms.

The Series S is a pretty ideal solution for my stepson.  Since we live several states apart, we have a few nights a week of playing Minecraft or Roblox together, and he really prefers digital since it means not having to find and change discs.  Add in that he only really plays 3 or 4 games, and it's a no brainer.

Series X for me, Series S for him.  Hopefully they still allow for game sharing, because that would just be icing on the cake.

I guess you're right. I absolutely despise everything about PC gaming so admittedly I know nothing about it lol. I still maintain that consoles shouldn't try to blur the lines to be similar to PCs and instead go all in on something and that be it.

Like you said, it won’t happen unless disc copies are gone from the market, and even then, look at the indie games that have no disc version, it’s rare to see them go below a fixed sale price that they hit every time they are on sale. It’ll be Microsoft’s playground and if they are selling these consoles at a loss you better believe they will make it up in software.

Even on steam the sale prices get repeated for a lot of software.

What kind of crack are you smoking? All 3rd party games I have played play better on the Xbox One X and it's not even close! Early on I made the PS4 my main console because the difference in graphics was noticeable to me despite the small difference in power as many early games were locked to 900p or even 720p in some cases on the OG xbox one but that was way before PS4 Pro and One X were even a thing. Once the One X came out there was no comparison. One X is the superior console. A lot of older games got patched to run at higher resolution and games that supported dynamic resolution were able to hit those higher resolution and framerates on the X without even needing to be patched.

Yes the weak Xbox One hardware really hurt xbox this generation but that will not be the case next generation. Both Series S and X will have the same 3.8Ghz CPU which is actually faster than the variable 3.5Ghz CPU in the PS5. Let that sink in. The GPU in the Series S will still be RDNA2 architecture and will support all of the next gen features like Ray Tracing, Variable Rate Shading, etc, etc, etc... but it will target 1440p which is more than enough for the majority of people for the next few years until 4k TVs become more mainstream.

Have a 4k TV? Buy an Xbox Series X.

Have a 1080p TV? Buy an Xbox Series S.

This would be such a nightmare to process (even more so in a pandemic) that no company would do it. I remember people talking about the same thing when the PSP Go came out.

Historically, consoles have definitely benefited from having standardized hardware. A dev kit should represent every single PS2, every Gamecube, every PS3, etc so they know that the end user's experience will be the same. It makes it easier to find bugs and to optimize for other hardware limitations. So this variable changes things, but it also makes it easier to port between platforms, so we get more games on more systems with such similar architecture.

I do miss the days that you just put a disc into a system and it worked. At least the Switch is (mostly) keeping that dream alive.

Price definitely matters, but Nintendo also has beloved first-party games. Nintendo platforms have been primarily a vessel for their own games for the last ~15 years, and thankfully have enjoyed a resurgence of third party support.

The focus on mobile has definitely made things less clear. The website makes it sound like it's coming to Windows 10 at launch, but it doesn't actually seem like it. If the One S also gets xcloud, I'll be pretty happy about that.

Also wondering if xcloud will be limited to Game Pass titles, or anything you own that's supported? If it includes anything in your purchased library then I will probably get a lot of use out of it.

I really dont need yet another subscprition to a streaming service but adding new venture bros to it would do it.

They took really long gaps between seasons, especially the last few, years at a time in cases. Season 7 was released in 2018, season 8 was in production when it got the axe. Not hard to believe it may have already been cancelled.
