Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

I've got a ps5 pro ordered. Should I trade in my ps5 for $291 or wait for a trade in deal? I'm not worried about the money, I just hate to wait and see the trade in value go down even further.
At this point, I would cancel the pre-order. The trade-off is just bad for mere marginal performance gains. That $700+ would be better invested in a PS6.

i'm not super rich. Maybe have about 120k in the bank. I just hate waiting and missing out on recouping some of the cash i spent.
Yeah, that amount of liquid assets on hand puts you well ahead of the vast majority of the population of not just the United States but the whole world. You may not think you’re “super rich” but you’re looking like Elon Musk compared to the person who just got paid today and is choosing between paying rent and buying food for their kids but you threw that amount in there to humble brag and/or troll anyway so it’s probably a waste of time to even call this out.

At any rate, GameStop is definitely taking advantage of people offloading regular PS5s for the Pro right now, I would be shocked if they don’t bump the trade in value back up closer to Black Friday. But even still, absolute best case scenario I’d imagine is it goes back up to $400 or so.

If you can, I say wait it out. That's what I'm doing. Just on principle. The current value is a insult.

You can throw the PS5 up on marketplace in the meantime for a higher price incase someone bites before you decide to trade it in

I'm a pro member and have a coupon for $30 extra trade in credit for console that expires Nov 2nd. Check your account.

Also, I visited a local pawn shop recently and they had an abundance of disc version PS5 for $348. After seeing that, it seriously made me consider just trading in my PS5 instead of goofing around trying to sell it for slightly more than GameStop trade in value.

I can only imagine the amount of backlash if the base PS5 trade-in value bumps up around Black Friday if people trade-in their consoles now out of FOMO. I highly doubt GS wants any more bad publicity on top of bad publicity they've already garnered themselves. Also, it just doesn't make any business financial sense because well..."Sell high, buy low" as CAGger Nothing- has wisely expressed.

Lmao they won't care

Gamestop needs to run a trade promo soon to have inventory for black Friday. Trade values across the board are so low. It doesn't seem like stores are getting many PS5 pros so no real incentive to run a trade up promo for that though. I imagine they are swimming in PS5s from the $400+ value a month ago.

Yeah, they have over 17k, just for original model.

It does look like GameStop Canada is running a promo.

Being able to cover rent for 4 years is considered rich nowadays? Because that's how much it would cost in a major metropolitan city like NYC or Los Angeles. It depends on where you live. It's certainly a lot if you live in a state where minimum wage is still $8-10. But in a bad enough medical emergency or if he's simply unable to work for a year, he would just burn through the money as if he held it to a lighter. It's not like he can just quit his job and go traveling. You don't even know how he budgets to have that much saved up. Maybe he never eats out, never goes to restaurants or movie theaters, doesn't date, and Netflix and video games are his only entertainment expenses.

Sell it to a friend. 350 or even 400 my boy
The thing is...the friend(s) want a PS5 Pro lol. Why bother spending $350 to $400 for outdated tech and expired warranties when the late-gen refresh is right around the corner for another $350 to $400? More power to them because I think they would then be in a better position to trade-in for a PS6 at high TIV down the line than those of us who are still hanging on to the base/slim PS5 for whatever reasons.

Anyone else submitted any Pokemon cards for grading? I submitted a couple cards exactly 2 weeks ago and it still shows as Order Created. I called my store and asked about it but they said that they are still waiting on the word from corporate on when to ship them out to PSA.

I just hope that an employee didn't steal them 😕

I am just tired of Gamestop at this point. Went to pick up my Life is Strange and they said the game is still in box. Same thing happened with Vision of Mana and I didn't get my game for another week.

All that is pretty irrelevant to the point

Bottom line is, vast majority of people in this country don’t have 120K sitting in “spare cash”.

I got an email that said a local store was closing, but it didn't say which one. On the GS subreddit, many people mentioned also receiving it, so it sounds like there's another wave of closing stores. Anyone know how to tell which stores are closing? The blog site wasn't helpful.

It is relevant when it wasn't good fortune that let him save up that tidy sum. Anyone who's willing to cut out all the things I listed can save up a small fortune over the years. Most are not willing to make those sacrifices, though. Just cutting out outside dining will save you hundreds in a month.

You truly only get ahead by increasing your salary while not succumbing to lifestyle creep. We live in the same ‘starter’ home I bought 20 years ago. Based my husband’s salary, we could qualify for a home that costs 3-4x as much. We just bought 2 cars (in cash) after running our others into the ground after 15 years. Saving a few hundred here and there just doesn’t compare to bringing home thousands more & not spending it.

Of course it's easier to save money by earning a higher salary. I'm talking strictly about things in your control, like not having dependents, i.e. kids. How many people would eat chicken, rice, and vegetables day in and day out? If you cut your lifestyle to little more than the essentials, you can save up $120k within a decade. Many people wouldn't consider that living, though. And $120k in a decade would only be worth what $80-90k is today.

Yes very normal rental markets where you definitely move to without a high paying job to bring you there.

What is this clownish nonsense about eating rice and beans and talking about NYC rent and a freaking 120k savings account in the abstract? If you have 120K in a checking/savings account, are eating rice and beans, and paying rent in NYC or LA I think you have other organizational priorities or psychological hangups to work out, I wouldn't worry about what's happening at Gamestop on top of that.

Same. Can't know for sure, but in my case it might one of two stores that are literally five minutes up and down the street from each other.

...that's literally how Chinese immigrants live. How else do you think they could have afforded to buy houses before 2008 despite working menial jobs and not speaking the native language? You probably can't buy a house anymore living like that, but you can still accumulate wealth if you're willing to scrimp like you've survived widespread famine. As I said, most people aren't willing to make those sacrifices.

Are you kidding? Everyone is clamoring to be a Chinese immigrant and would give up everything to achieve that. I think you might be out of touch.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. If you're saying that more people should be doing this to create lasting generational wealth for their families, I wholeheartedly agree. Because this is the only way to do it without a high-paying job or coming from generational wealth yourself. Petitioning the government to increase minimum wage or raises taxes for billionaires isn't going to do squat.

That's the last I have to say on the topic since we're getting far off-topic. Coincidentally enough, GS seems to have a similar modus operandi by cutting their costs to the bone and investing their income on the stock market. I thought I would be bothered by more store closures, but I traveled to further GS stores than my home store yesterday and found a different variety of products. Some stores have machines for capsule toys, have as many anime statues as Funko Pops, or even sell manga again. Designated TCG stores have tables for playing games with other people. All of that is more interesting to me than selling just video games.

Yes I know. As someone who is is cheap, eats like a peasant, and saves, I know.

All I’m saying is statistically, if you ask all 320 million Americans “who has 120K sitting in a bank account”, the percentage would be very low.

Wow, ignoring how many of those 320 million Americans who are actually Chinese immigrants living in NYC in the 1960s, erasure much?

The left will never be satisfied  you'll never get rich if you don't expand your concept of what time is.

"Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it. He who doesn't, pays it" - Wayne Gretzky

Why would you listen to a hockey legend for financial advice? He made his wealth from being a pro athlete. Him saying "it's easier to make more money when you already have money" is more out of touch than whatever it is you're accusing me of.

The assorted coupon offers added to select accounts expire today. I used my 25% pre-owned offer along with Nov's $5 cert to get a set of uncommon Hori split pads for $17.

Im not going to use my +$30 on console trades. If another cag wants to use it today then just request by pm.

Who knew the +$30 extra would stack on multiple consoles
That's one way to recoup the loss in TIV of the base PS5. Hey $120K guy, right there is your consol-(see what I did there)-ation prize. Just trade-in a buncha other used systems you're not using or find them off of OU/FBM or something.

To get right back on track, post your spoils from the B2G1F promo that just ended. I'll start:

Darksiders Genesis (XB1)
Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition (XB1) [Free XSX upgrade]
Darksiders III (XB1)

Also picked up Gears of War 4 Ultimate Edition (XB1), Rampage Total Destruction (NGC), X-Men Legends (NGC), and Super Mario Advance 3 Yoshi's Island (GBA) from the most wonderful of people. And then Dead Space 3 (360) from an otaku merch store. All CIB minus SMA3YI. Getting gitty for Black Friday!
