Best Buy YMMV Thread

mikeshinobi

CAGiversary!
Can we have a thread where we share deals we find at our local Best Buys? Of course they're always YMMV but it would give us ideas of what to look out for.

I have two local best buys and each of them had different deals:

Best Buy #1:

  • Dragon Quest Builders 2 (NSW): $15.99
Best Buy #2:

  • Disgaea 4 (NSW): $15.99
  • Dead Cells (NSW): $10.99
  • Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (3DS): $12.99 (didn't get this, very sad)
  • Some other 3DS title I was extremely sad I missed out on (3DS): $10.99
There were some others but these were the ones that stood out the most that I can remember.

Also for anyone who doesn't know, if your Best Buy has a price placard out for a game but they're sold out, you can ask an employee to order it for you from their website and they will match their in-store price! Of course they have to have stock on the website though.

That's what you call atrocious customer service. Also, not allowing cancellation on an order in this status is complete horseshit. If they did this to me I would look into filing a claim against them with my bank, credit card company, or PayPal -- whatever the case may be.
Yep, but one of the issues is I used a reward cert and a $10 credit from a preorder for it, so I just redid the order with store pickup and will return the one they send me when it arrives (which it has now shipped - at the lowest possible speed, of course). And it is using a Best Buy store card (which I always pay off right away, so no interest and reward points). The main thing here is they say "we will cancel for you in two weeks if we don't send it, so that gets around chargeback protections even on regular cards. There is protection, but not against going really slow and giving crappy international customer service - since they do eventually make it right and send it or refund you.

The main issue is indeed store fulfillment. If you preorder, make sure you do so at least a week in advance. I made the mistake with Astro Bot of waiting until the last minute to get if for my son, I figured hey big Sony game, no preorder bonus will be easily in stock everywhere. When you preorder ahead of time, it comes from the warehouse as they don't bother shipping to the store to then be shipped out to homes. Once they have moved it to "find a store that has it and get someone in the store to send it" it is in limbo. And if it gets dispatched to a bad or understaffed store, they don't go pull it from the floor until they get around to it - and many times it will sell out by then, which it seems to take a while before their fulfillment reassigns and the process begins again. Then if it is a local store, they often use ShipIt, a local delivery service not unlike Uber. I had one order last year to be delivered by ShipIt that went through like 7 drivers that decided my house was a bit too far out of their way before I finally got it.

Their phone support (and chat support) are absolute garbage, they don't give them the ability to do practically anything other than read you the purchase screen. And anything they can do gets sent through channels that takes hours before you find out if they actually did anything and if you need to call again.

Oh and it gets worse, I also had Yars Rising for Switch as part of the buy 2 get 1 deal and it arrived today - with Ace Attorney Collection in the box instead of Yars. Chat support said "We can get you what you ordered in about a week or so if we get back the other thing we shipped you by mistake before we ship it". When I went by the store to return the Astro Boy the guy at customer service wasn't the least bit surprised their chat/phone support was complete garbage. He told me to just deal with the store on these things, they would take care of me. They know, but executives wants to save money ...

Yeah yeah, I know that I should learn from all this, and probably will but I've got two Buy 2 Get 1 orders left before that happens. Reminds me of the days when everyone was trying to get out of the endless preorder credit loop at Dell their shipping was so bad.

Edit: Ok, I did get better help from Facebook chat support. Go with that first if you have a problem. Still ridiculous, but we CAGs always go to lengths to save a buck or two ...

Received an email today saying Reward Zone points can be exchanged for gift cards now, GAMECHANGER. Heading to buy some PSN + cards or gamepass.

Like a Dragon PS4 for $5 after the $10 certificate. That's about the only worthwhile thing I've found, and I've been looking every day.
Check out the very end of the last two pages of the Xbox thread. There is some kind of ring sizing thing that comes with the $10 gift certificate that doesn't expire. Here is the link if you don't want to read the thread

Thank you. I have a $10 ‘reward’ to burn right now.

It seems best buy is constant now with their ‘feedback loops’. Every few weeks they have an offer such as 20% back in rewards or spend $100 for $10, where the ‘reward’ expires in weeks. It’s all a hook to keep a customer perpetually shopping.

Then you break the loop by just buying the ring kit that comes with the 10$ gift cert that doesn't have a expiration. Converting your soon to expire promo stuff and being able to use them whenever.

literally just did that moments ago!

I was specifically referring to the constant “spend $500 get $50” and numerous offers. I rarely if ever had ‘my best buy’ offers and now they are on a constant cycle refreshing every month around the 15th.

I forget whoever originally posted that but thank you for that tip.

Similar to the other one Amazon had for locker pickups or whatever a while back. Just without requiring cancelation of the order to get the promo coupon back without a exp.

Gotta love the community for moments like these.

You should be able to preorder something and cancel to get a new cert date.

I have a BB credit card and I’ll preorder something, then cancel to bank the points instead of a cert with an expiration date.

I already used my credit, but thanks. I'll keep that bookmarked for next time.

If we are talking the re-issued certs by cancelling preorders. I know I brought that here (to the Japanese Niche thread) when I discovered it. Nicely it works as well if you have multiple certs and you put them on a preorder and later cancel it, you get a new single cert for the full total instead of two back. It's nice that it still works.

Sorry, but reward certificates can’t be used to buy gift cards or specialty items.

I thought this worked before. Doh.
$10 expiring soon. Maybe that ring kit for 70 cents.
Just changed policy. Can redeem points for GCs from various retailers including BB.

They actually sent kit for free. Ecert with no expiration. Cart literally said reward would not work on Xbox bux. Now I'll be able to use on whatever.

Question for everyone who has gotten the bonus free certs by email.

Have you ever gotten one while you had an unspent cert on your account?

I don't think I have, though I have gotten them while I had preorders with certs on them. Which of course then I cance the preorder, get the re-issued cert, and then stack the certs on a new preorder. There MIGHT be a hidden benefit to having it appeared used instead of sitting in the account. Though I need more than my anectdotal experience.

Wow BBY really does suck at cancelling Xbox certs paid with gifts card.

Talked to support. In store only for rewards on Xbox cards.

So I can confirm that if you are wanting to renew your PSN PREMIUM subscription using Best Buy gift cards or Reward Zone points it is possible and is not very hard to do. I purchased $175 in PSN cards using my RZ certs and gift cards then redeemed them on PSN, then removed any payment method from my account so it would default to my wallet. Makes using my Best Buy Visa even better now. Between this and Bing rewards dont have to use money out of my pocket for these subscriptions.

Nothing for me but I've never liked Bestbuy's offers not showing up under purchase history. I had a 10% back in rewards with Bestbuy card purchases and there's no way for me to know if it applied or not. The offer is still in my account lol

Anyone spotted a newish game currently discounted to use the reward cert on? I’d prefer not to waste free money, but 10 off doesn’t even match the 20% they used to offer.

Best Buy is doing buy 1 get 50% off second title

I snagged:
Cocoon
Balatro (honestly, wanted this for the steam deck, but worried screen size might be an issue...can test on the portal I guess)

Notable ones (to me):
Metaphor Refantzio (if you liked Persona 5, you will love this one and I appreciate the story, only about 25 hours in)
FF Rebirth (enjoyed, but if you didn't play part 1, can't see you opting for part 2)
System Shock (on the fence with this game, never played, but kind of want to..haven't pulled trigger)
Avatar Frontiers of Pandora (I enjoyed this game, really helpful once get mount and fast travel)
Undisputed (have not had an intrest in boxing since Mike Tyson's Punchout lol)
Space Marines 2 (honestly, got bored with this...it's a regular FPS and nothing feels like you can't just walk through all of it blindly)

Where are you seeing the B1g1 50% off? I don’t see it on their website anywhere.

Anyone know what happens when you have a promo in your account “spend 100 get $10 certificate”. If you do that, use the certificate on a different item , but later want to return the initial item(whose purchase gave you the feet to begin with) ?
