GS FAQ

Where is the weekly ad?
They ended the weekly ad for more rotation of deals. Please check the homepage and deal link for the current deals.

I can't find a trade in value for an item?
It might not be tradable or calling a store to find the value may be the only option.

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

Are there trade limits?
Yes, $500 cash minus some electronic trade ins and or $2000 trade credit in a rolling 30 day period.

Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

I haven't even been able to look at the Gamestop website for over two months. My PC (browser + antivirus) recognizes gamestop.com as an insecure connection where any data you send could be intercepted. It hasn't been fixed.
Glad I wasn't the only one that had this issue (with mobile phone).

Just realizing that GS is working with PSA for TCG grading. Question:

1. Would it be more cost effective to send in the cards yourself outside of GS?
2. Or, do you prefer the "added sense of security" knowing that your card can't be just "lost" thru the coordinated business partnership?
3. And how long do ya'll think until they decide to grade sealed video games next?

I wanna run this scenario by some folks with some expertise. Might help me decide what to do.
-----
The facts:
- You have original, early model PS5 controller (from launch PS5).
- You bought new Slim or Pro PS5 console, which comes with new PS5 controller.

The choice:
- You decide to trade in the old launch PS5 to Gamestop. Which controller are you supplying them: the older one, or the new one?

The conundrum:
- You find out from an experience controller technician and repairer, that the PS5 controller has been downgraded with cheaper parts with each revision, making the newer ones potential worse. (https://x.com/Modyfikator89/status/1853601120070828191)

Other data to consider:
- warranty, controller mileage, second-hand market, life-expectancy until PS6, etc.

PS5 has 1-year warranty but shipping it is on your dime, and no guarantee of fix or replacement, so it's a gamble.

***

Another scenario I'm considering is selling the new controller on eBay, but pricing seems competitive there and tons of availability, so that might not be a good option. I called up my local Gamestop and they said if I didn't have a controller, I'd have to buy a pre-owned one from them. I think he mumbled something about 40% off normal pre-owned price? Looks to be a wash in either of these routes.

My expertise is power, not electronics, but the controller components getting smaller is likely refining the design to remove superfluous bits, over engineering, and yes, cost savings measures.

Whether they are truly "worse" is up for time to decide. Not sure about y'all, but sticks and batteries have always died long before a face button or a shoulder button/trigger.

Keep the controller you like the most. I chucked my OG White Xbox 360, but I still have the original launch window 360 pad that came with it. Had to replace the stick caps because I literally wore them off, but it still works.

Using GameStop as your recycling bin, ... why, who would ever do that?

I know I wouldn't trust gamestop with anything valuable, and I know for sure they will never take sealed anything. they are deathly afraid of acquiring stolen goods.
Yet...they still take in Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh! cards no questions asked. And yes...purchasing brand new sealed at a GS store is definitely "stolen goods."

Got an email yesterday that my pro expired, I hadn't even been paying attention. I still have some credit, I wish I had used it up before it expired. Now I need to decide if it is worth renewing for another year. Any renewal deals? I just missed one, right?

Did you already use your $5 monthly before expiration? If not, is the voucher still valid for use post-expiration? Remember, you have 45 days before all of your points expire as well. Trade credits on your TIV card(s) are not affected.

It says it expires 11/30, but I don't know for sure if it still works.i haven't used any of them for months. I have a little over 12K points, and a $15 online rewards coupon that a clerk purchased with my points by mistake.

That GSA was/is an idiot. Online-only rewards coupons are usually hit or miss when applying to cart; plus, it would probably screw over free shipping. At the very least, you should've used those $5 certs for Pokemon card packs. Wait until Black Friday to see if you can test your last monthly voucher out and if the upcoming sales are worth renewing or not. Keep us posted, yeah?

The $5 monthly will still show in your account, but you need an active pro membership to use it, so it won't work. I'd recommend using your points towards something you want in store before they expire.

Would an inactive Pro membership also affect any other vouchers besides the $5 monthly?

I mean persona 5R AT THAT PRICE is a steal. I can't imagine any other good deals like this for this month.
No need to imagine, or at least work on it. Already seeing new and used games with red "sale" stickers at stores. The Last of Us Part II on PS5 dropped $10. Small select pre-owned titles get $2 shaved off on average.

wait, the ps4 version? They do that every year or part of their Buy 4 for $20 promotion

I’m really torn on what to do with my slim PS5 now. I could sell it on my own instead of trading but at these prices (even eBay prices are falling now) it doesn’t feel worth it.

The temporary price-cut/holiday sale are certainly suppressing the tradein and resale value for now but on on the other hand if Trump does end up going forward with tariffs, the price is certainly going to rebound.

I dunno at this point, I guess I’m gonna hang onto it, worst case I end up giving it to my kid I suppose but $250-300 is a joke of a resale price and with fees you’re not making out much better on eBay (albeit then it is cash rather than credit).

Its possible they are sitting on a decent number of PS5 consoles now as they were traded in towards a Pro.
They have about 26k used/refurb consoles across all variants, disc and digital, of PS5 consoles. Unless they happen to sell through a ton of those during the holidays, I do not see the trade value going back up, and when it does, probably $350 max.

Yeah at this point it's best to just hold until after all of the holiday sales. The slim (digital) is going to be $380 for black friday (and possibly through December) so it's tough to sell a used console for $350 when a new one is sitting there for much less. Also with Pro the demand for the other consoles is certainly down. I listed my slim on offer up and I get like 5 messages a day asking if I'll do $300. I'm trying to sell it before it goes on sale but it's seeming unlikely at this point. I'm not too worried about hanging on to it as these trade and resale prices seem to be about bottomed out so I could sell it at these prices literally any time so might as well wait and see what happens in a couple months.

Is the extra 20% trade in credit toward a preorder or new game over? I can’t find the banner in my browser (but google screwed up my IP address somehow this week and I kept getting Japanese advertisements so i have no trust in what I am seeing).

It should be preorder or new games. Not sure if it's a certainty, but I have seen the following text on New condition listings on the website that seems to indicate that it's eligible.

It can always change at any moment obviously but it's clear at this point that the whole 20% thing being applied to all new games/preorders instead of a select few is a permanent feature until noted otherwise.

It's evergreen until something proves otherwise. I made use of it today in fact.

You're better off getting coal, but anyone need stocking stuffers? 🤡cord

That person is a moron, and wasted $200+ (if they didn't steal the games).

The only people who MAY have bought it (i.e. the people vehemently defending the game), I would never in a million years depend on them putting their money where their mouth is. And that's ignoring the fact you can't even play it...

My cart has been glitched for weeks. Anytime I try to go to my cart it gives an error page that says,
"For technical reasons, your request could not be handled properly at this time. Please contact customer service at 1-800-883-8895 for assistance."

Same on mobile. Anyone else have this issue?

Try on mobile data and not on Wi-Fi in incognito/private browser and see if it's still happening

so far these gs black friday deals are pretty bad.
Wait til actual Black Friday. Already seeing one specific game I want going on sale. Debating on whether to order online pick up "new" using $5 off or wait for B2G1F but harder to find used and can't use monthly voucher in-store. Decisions.
