I bought an ALARMO thinking it might be good for my youngest son (20) who was having trouble waking up to even a dozen alarms and worst case ebay listings show I could easily break even (currently, easily double my money after fees and all according to completed listings). At my suggestion, he ended up changing his whole morning routine and that straightened him out without the need to try this. So I am still using the Alarmo I bought. I love the night time sounds it plays when you go to bed in the Zelda theme. It makes you feel like you are in the woods with some wind blowing, the crackles of a fire, the occasional animal noise (nothing dangerous), and some very lite piano mixed in. I'm to the point now where after a few min of it I'm almost out for the night. It really does a great job of clearing the mind from whatever I was doing before going to bed. Also it made me not want to go to bed until I'm ready to go to bed since I know those sounds will be triggered. Which really that's been it's own major benefit as I'm no longer sitting in bed to watch tv or surf the net, which has helped my back. I'm also to the point with the alarm that I barely even need an alarm to wake up. I also really like that the face of the clock, when the night time sounds kick in and before the alarm goes off, goes completely black when it doesn't detect movement but will slightly illuminate if you move around so you can still check the time. The lack of light from it is nice. Slight movements don't wake it either... I have to really move some to trigger it.

Yes this thing looks like it was ripped out of a mario videogame (or cartoon) with it's very mario red toy like shell... it's easy to find things to poke fun at about it... but, I feel like this is pretty close to perfect for anyone that maybe needs a little help with going to bed, getting to sleep quickly, and getting up. I highly recommend it despite it's toy like appearance. I thought my routine was fine before this thing, but I can't deny this thing has had a huge positive impact.

Now, I just need them to make MEALO... the device that sits at the table for meal times so I stop associating food with sitting on the couch in the livingroom. Or maybe I just need to setup up a small tv and streaming device at the table and leave the main tv off in the morning until I'm done eating?

I'm going to stream the three new NSO games if you want to see them in action.

Edit: Here's the archive.

This is the first time I've played Tetris for the NES and it's a decent enough version of the game. It doesn't control as well as the Game Boy game nor does it look all that good, especially when it changes the color scheme every so often. The music is also boring public domain music that is repetitive enough to hurt the experience.

I didn't even know there was a Tetris DX for Game Boy, which is made by Nintendo and not the same company as the original game. The modes on offer are a bit better with a 3 minute mode and a nebulous Vs. CPU mode. The package is improved by the addition of a profile system so you can track stats while not having to enter your name for high scores every time. The controls are still solid, though there's a bug where you can move the pieces up the walls by rapidly rotating them against the walls (the O square piece doesn't work with the bug). The music is a notable improvement over the NES game since the composer worked on the original Game Boy Tetris. The visuals are nice in color, though they focus on every piece being neon colored in a way that looks like the typical 90s color aesthetic that clashes a bit when you have a bunch of pieces on screen in the field. The main visual issue I noticed is that falling pieces aren't aligned properly with the grid you see when pieces have stopped moving, so you see them being misaligned for a half second when it's dropped before it shifts to being correctly aligned that bugged me every time I saw it. I think I still prefer the original Game Boy Tetris.

Donkey Kong Land 3, like the others, features the duo from the corresponding DKC game with Dixie and Kiddy Kong. They have the one unique ability they had in DKC3 with Dixie's spinning float glide and Kiddy's roll, but that's it for unique moves. Stages are similar to the general themes DKC3 had, but they reuse a lot of level pieces for what a GB could handle while still creating levels that are kind of confusingly maze-like at times. With the rewind and save states, you can undo some of the easy deaths you run into as your momentum carries you into enemies that you barely see appearing on screen before you're dead or bosses that don't react to anything that happens to let you know you're damaging them. The GBC coloring hilariously just turns any moving assets brown that at least lets you know what won't move, but it's not a pleasant game to look at at times even with the game being blown up to screen sizes it wasn't designed to be played at on a Switch or TV.

Master Spy is the latest free game from NGG:

I've actually had this game on my wishlist for a while. It's a retro precision platformer with nice graphics/aesthetics. Haven't played it yet, but I'm hyped that they're giving it away for free

So now that I’m buying Switch games, I have to question this.

The PSP had larger physical media than the Switch. Its games were coming out in a period when game manuals still existed. Why are Switch cases larger than PSP cases? I won’t even mention DS cases.

Yeah I liked one of the fighting games (really simple one or two button game) and one of the platformers. Everything else has been near terrible. I forgot to do it this year and am just out. They repeat a lot of them anyway.

Yeah, last year's NGG giveaway was mostly repeats which made this year so surprising.

Little Friends: Dogs & Cats is $2.49 on eshop. The previous low was $24.99!

It's not anywhere close to what Nintendogs was. Lackluster reviews and overall pretty bland. But you can dress up your adorable pup, go on walkies, and play fetch with them for a few minutes before getting bored and then completely forgetting about the game for 3 years. Sorry virtual doggy :(

In November Fireshine also put Puppy Island on sale for $1.99. So keep a price alert up if you're interested in that one too.

Also, Okami HD is at it's lowest price ever - $4.99

Goes to show my ignorance, I always thought USA and Canada got the same copies and the "TODOS +10" stuff was french (Im fully aware spanish is 2nd most spoken language in america, i just thought we got the same copies)
Edit: I clearly never once thought about it, looking at the back of my games, it's so obviously spanish. I guess I knew about canadian laws and assumed it was that
I wanna follow up on this uninteresting story. I'm just realizing my Switch collection is super inconsistent with whether it's Spanish or French. My in-store day 1 bought Bomberman R is french. most of my 2017 games dont have a 2nd language, NWC NES Edition (bought day 1 in an american target) is also French. Probably explains my confusion
NA Copy gonna NA Copy so i dont care, just never realized the inconsistencies

Magical Drop VI. Classic arcade puzzle game. $2.99, 90% off. Sale ends January 2.

I didn't even know there was a Magical Drop IV, much less a VI.

I really want it now, but I don't know how to play this without an arcade stick. So I might just get it on Steam.

Garfield Lasagna Party is at an all time low for $8. Anyone played it? Thinking it might be a nice surprise for my kids over holiday break.

When buying a game I often have trouble deciding whether to go with the Switch version for portability, or the PC version for mod support. I usually go with PC if there are a lot of mods; Slay the Spire vanilla is great, but with mods there's infinite replay value.

Go with the PC version and use a Steam Deck if you need it portable. The PC version is often a safer investment for the future in terms of cloud saves being carried forward for free along with your digital library being accessible on future hardware.

I'm not particularly worried about longevity, since I'm not opposed to system modding and using craftier means to obtain games. I just don't have any plans to shell out $500 for another system anytime soon.

Thanks crackadon as I grabbed Fez. I owned Fez on my xbox360 but it did not go backwards compatible

Thinking about getting Spelunky 1 & 2 as well.

Loaded my account up with 20% off eshop credit from Costco a few weeks back so all time lows with another 20% off is nice.

Day 10 is Ego Protocol: Remastered. One more day to go.

Ego Protocol: Remastered Is a cool name. I have no idea if the game is as cool though.

I really jumped around on Switch, though I mainly play it on trips.

Games Played = 26
Hours Played = 38

Top 3
Super Mario RPG = 11 hours
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (remake) = 11 hours
Mario Party Superstars = 4 hours

Most games it says I "played" were used copies I traded for, made sure they works, and either didn't get back to or traded away again.

I played 26 hours total in the year and bought two games that cost me more dollars than that (neither of which I've played yet) so I feel a bit ashamed.
