Target Clearance Thread XXIV

Sometimes, you just hit the jackpot.

  • weird find for a Wednesday. stores here usually do markdowns on Mon., so you can find them on Monday or Tues. most often.
  • really happy about finding one that's been top of my clearance list for 2yrs: Advanced Wars 1&2. never thought I'd strike it. Seen previous instances only -30% many months ago, and copies have all but evaporated.
  • there just haven't been any large discounts on Metroid. $30 is as good as I had seen, previously. I was wrong thinking I'd ever find this one cheaply.
  • had I been even an hour later, there wouldn't have been a worthwhile find. Only 1 copy left for each of the good ones.

Nice gets especially metroid for that price. Makes me want to check my closest one and see if they discounted anything. As they haven't had any good clearance since someone set the store on fire. And it's funny as usually when they are doing large scale renovation is when you get decent clearance stuff.

stopped at a 2nd target and advance wars was only 30% off. nothing is marked so I didn't check the other games

capcom fighting collection switch $8.99
rune factory 3 switch $8.99

Target employee chiming in. Most of the titles I saw in the system were going straight to 70%, which is rare. So if you want these titles, make sure to pick them ASAP before they go salvage.

Games I remember include:

:switch: Nintendo Switch
- Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - $17.99 (70%)
- Pokémon Shining Pearl - $17.99 (70%)
- Bayonetta 3 - $17.99 (70%)
- Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp $17.99 (70%)
- Pikmin 1+2 - $14.99 (70%)
- Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD - $17.99 (70%)
- Everybody 1/2 Switch - $8.99 (70%)

Also remember seeing a decent amount of PS4/5 and Xbox so good luck!

is it possible the clearance team didn't do the 30% drop? advance wars was 30% off at one target but 70% off at two others.

Metal Gear Solid collection Switch was labeled 30% off. DIdn't scan it though.
Target employee mentioned helldivers 2 ps5 was on clearance as well. I haven't seen it though and I didn't bother making a UPC to check on the scanner.

Found a couple new ones. Sifu Vengeance Edition PS5 was 70% and Triangle Strategy for Switch was 70% too. Tried Metroid but it rang up full price.

I’d pick up sifu for the collectors edition aspect and probably helldivers 2. Is HD2 alive anymore? If it’s online only and required PS+ just to play with no single player I’d most likely pass. I’m over pay to play games that die in the end and you lost all your time and progress investment.

Helldivers 2 is not worth playing by yourself.

I figured as much. I loved online gaming over the years. EQOA, SOCOM, MAG, the original CoDs. Today I’m over paying to play monthly. And there are so many shooters, they die quickly. The game being online only becomes useless in the end.

Plus I used to play Destiny A good 4-6 hours a night. Ran three characters, strikes, raids, etc. All of the time spent was amazing with friends, and at the same time all the progress has been wiped with updates.

It’s been a good while since I’ve done any clearance scavenger hunts so I went to 3 Targets after dropping my kids off at school.

One had about 25 copies of Call of Duty Vanguard at 30% off. The other had nothing and the final one had a dump bin of a lot of these games people have been finding. No clearance tags and nothing I scanned was clearanced at all.

I remember now why I only used to do this when I had an abundance of time on my hands…

Yeah I remember when Target was clearancing and I found a bunch of games out on the endcaps. Nothing was discounted. Checked for a few weeks (they are next to my Costco). They never reduced them.

Do you play games with random's or only with people you know? HD2 is fun, but I only play with a group of people I actually know IRL. So I have only put in 10 or so hours. If you're ok playing with rando's you should still have a fun time.

I enjoyed Helldivers with randoms..people appeared more friendly and competent when I played...course Metaphor (completed)and now Dragon age is sucking all my time up (learned a long time ago not to try to play 2 RPGs at the same time.

Picked up Sifu PS5 tonight for $15. Also capcom fighting collection for $10. Forgot about helldivers though I didn’t notice it there.

Most of the games listed above were NOT clearanced at my local store and still MSRP. I did see pikmin, skyward sword, and a couple others too.

I always played with friends in Destiny and MAG. Didn’t mind randoms once in a while though I used to be in a guild and always had a group to play with.

Now as I got older I don’t have time to ‘waste’ with endless looter shooters that have no ending or purpose. I prefer something story driven and that has an ending. I do have wonderful memories and lifelong friends playing games like that though in the past.

Visited a few stores, clearance selection varied wildly (one store basically had nothing):

:ps5:
Persona 3 Reload $20.99
Spider-Man: Miles Morales $14.99
Dead Space $14.99
Final Fantasy XVI $11.99
Mortal Kombat 1 (base game) $11.99
Helldivers II $11.99
Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2 $11.99
Resident Evil 4: $8.99
NFS Unbound $5.99
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants $5.60

:ps4:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II $20.99
Horizon Forbidden West $2.99 (not a typo)

:switch:
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown $11.99

:xb1:
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor $20.99

A few games hit 30% clearance:
:ps5:
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth $48.99
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon $34.99
Pac-Man World Re-Pac $13.99

:xb1:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III $48.99

All those Switch games were full price at the nearest Target for me.
well I've checked 8 stores and only one of them has done the markdowns. Another had only a couple of other titles on clearance, like Ass Creed Mirage PS5. I did manual employee scanner price checks on ~3+ UPCs at all the stores I visited, and nada. Two locations had NONE of the relevant game titles anyways. Some of these locations don't even retain items that go on clearance; there are no endcaps, nor reductions. I actually got one team lead (who knows what he's doing) tell me that the markdowns at his store are happening later on today, just that the lady hasn't gotten to them yet, there's nothing he can do about it right now, but check back later, not tomorrow but tonight, and the games will be marked down.

It happens on some random hour, and then they are gone.

It's YMMV on a per-store basis. Whenever the instructions come through from corporate, and then whenever the pricing person gets to manually reducing their store's prices. It's completely sporadic. It's just a random list of games that each given store has in low quantities, plus tertiary shovelware, that needs to go away to make room.

The only weird thing is is how this only happens only ~1 a year now and dump bins sit around FOREVER at the stores which have them. The change since five years ago is how there are almost never any standard clearances any longer. Tho I do remember one happening around Feb. of last year too where I bought all sorts of stuff.

Based on history... of all the clearance games you bought over the years, how many are still sealed compared top opened/played/beat? For me
I'm on the 100% still sealed side...

At my store last night, the overflow section had games marked down. Not a lot of Nintendo, but surprisingly a lot of PS5 stuff and 1 or 2 Xbox sports games. I'm wondering if whoever was doing the markdown just didn't get to the Switch asile yet?

The Xbox situation at my store has gotten so bad that they no longer even display the covers. All the games are lined up with spines out in a locked cage, right next to the full priced Switch overflow games. The shelf has a few barcodes here and there, but now it's almost impossible to tell if a game gets marked for clearance or not.

Went to three stores today. First had nothing on clearance, second one had the Switch titles listed below (plus a couple PS4 that I didn't look at), and third had a lone copy of Advance Wars for $41.99.

Advance Wars - $17.99
Rune Factory 3 Special - $20.99
Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2 (code in box) - $11.99
PoP Lost Crown - $27.99 lol
Lion King/Jungle Book/Aladdin - $13.99
Pet Clinic Cats and Dogs - $5.99
Goosebumps Dead of Night - $5.99
Rabbids Party - $27.99
Harry Potter Lego Collection - $17.99
Samba De Amigo - $11.99
Smurfs Vileaf - $13.99
Hello Neighbor - $5.99
Capcom FIghting Collection - $8.99

I hit a couple more the past few days and was able to find Helldivers II, FNAF HW2, PGA Tour Road to The Masters, FFXVI for PS5, and Xenoblade 3 and Advance Wars all at 70%. 2 of the stores either had nothing on clearance or were already cleaned out. One of them had 20+ copies of CoD Vanguard. Got one more store I might hit. If I find any doubles I might be down to trade for some games.

Do the games have to have the Yellow Clearance, or did you have all have ask a staff member to scan them to check the price?

As mentioned previously this all seems to be really YMMV. Some stores have a good selection of clearance games while others have little or even nothing. Can that change or could it mean that some locations maybe haven't gotten to it yet? Who knows, that's anyone's guess. Even the level of discounts are very YMMV. Some titles are 30% off while others are 70% off, and even with the same exact games differing from one location to another. Anyway, from what I've seen visiting a few locations it's all over the place.

I picked up:

Dead Space - PS5 ($15)
NFS: Unbound - PS5 ($6)
Samba De Amigo - Switch ($11)

I went to two Targets, both had different items in stock on the clearance racks. No luck on Pikmin 1+2 and LoZ: Skyward Sword. Both places had them full price. Ah well, still not a bad find. This is in western WA state.

So business as usual then. At least presumably this time around stuff isn't magically in the back then popping back to the shelves after prices change back like with the 3ds games from eons ago.

Ps5 versions tend to go on clearance often since people would rather have the ps4 versions from what I understand. Given that they are bc for the majority of them that coupled with ps4 and ps5 owners going after just the ps4 versions. leads to more surplus of ps5 versions sitting on shelves unwanted and unloved.

Good old fashioned Target clearance run proved bountiful at 2 of 3 Tgts with a lot of the games mentioned here and then some. Thanks for the tips.

FFVII rebirth $20.99

I saw RE 4 for $9.99 and the Ninja 🐢 game for $12 at my Target. I picked up visions of mana for $18 on PS5, didn't see anything else I wanted

Worth a check out at your local Targets for sure. I know at mine Pikmin 1&2 and 4 were full price. I did get Advancer Wars 1+2 and Legend of Zelda Age of Calamity for $17.99 each I think. One of my targets had like 17 copies of Legend of Zelda and like 11 Pac-Man Museum I think it was for Switch (that was $5 but didn't really want it). Really YMMV.

Wish I didn’t have social anxiety or I would go. The gaming section is all the way in the back of the store . I feel like the walls are caving in at stores I can’t breathe .

No first party Nintendo games on clearance at the locations I stopped at.

Did get:
$9 Resident Evil 4 (PS5)
$9 Sponge Bob Crusty Cook-Off (NSW)
$12 Helldivers 2 (PS5)
$9 Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life (NSW)
