GS FAQ

Where is the weekly ad?
They ended the weekly ad for more rotation of deals. Please check the homepage and deal link for the current deals.

I can't find a trade in value for an item?
It might not be tradable or calling a store to find the value may be the only option.

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

Are there trade limits?
Yes, $500 cash minus some electronic trade ins and or $2000 trade credit in a rolling 30 day period.

Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

With sony officially dropping the price of the PS5 $50 now and giving out a free game, is trade credit still high for console trades? Last I looked it was still $330 for any PS5 trade, though the $25 boost is gone.

I think the console boost is still live like the controller boost but will probably be over tomorrow

so if you didn't have all the coupons before, you may have them now. they just added 3 more coupons to my account, the 25% off play and charge kit, the 33% off switch hardshell case and the $5 off ps portal screen protector

Did anyone else get a forced password reset at GS?

And then when I tried to click the email, I got a warning saying the link isn't secure...

Kind of annoyed because I swear I cancelled my AC Shadows CE preorder and wanted to check my status but they're forcing me this password reset that, I'm not sure is even safe...

I just have my monthly $5 and a coupon for 33 percent off a Switch case. And a $5 certificate that I used my points on because an employee mistakenly told me I could use it on a digital game.

yes, i got the same thing, without the unsecure link anyway

Apparently I got an email saying I'm getting a $5 off coupon for preordering Assassin's Creed Shadows in-store. It says it should show up in my active offers, though I don't see it currently. Based on the wording, it doesn't seem to be referring to the usual $5 monthly coupon for Pro users.

Never seen something like that before, wonder if future games will also qualify for this.

I get a 10% percent coupon and I am not a pro. The code mentions exclusion but the exclusions are not included with the coupon. Probably is not going to work for consoles.
Coupon:
"Save 10% Off Your Order (Targeted Offer, Exclusions Apply).
Coupon is required at time of purchase. Limit one per customer. GameStop, Inc. reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the offer for any reason without notice. Prices subject to change. While supplies last."

Apparently my local store isn't getting any copies of Xenoblade Chronicles X DE other than the pre-ordered ones. They said they'll only sell those after a 48hr window. 😆

So guess it's Target for me, assuming they get it.

All other stores get enough copies. Just Gamestop being the only one to handle special editions.

Has anyone found a way to get ahold of gamestop customer service?

I have an online order they haven't shipped (in perpetual "preparing for shipping" status after a month).

I tried calling their phone number, but can't get ahold of anyone.

Go in store and ask an associate to call CS for you. They have a dedicated line that may be able to help.

That’s strange. Oddly enough their customer services has been good for me when I’ve had issues in the past

Hey all, I truly have a good one for you. Thoughts on if I should report it or if it even matters?

I do not have pro. I did receive the 10% off coupon a few days ago. Go to a GameStop to use it yesterday, and the rep says to me “I was told by my manager that we aren’t allowed to let customers use it unless they have pro or renew their pro membership”.

I've been noticing certain stores trying to create their own rules to pump numbers up.

I think it’s in the fine print. “Terms and conditions subject to change “

Greenwood Park Mall Gamestop in Greenwood, IN (south of Indianapolis) closed recently. Circle Center Mall location had closed previously. This only leaves the Castleton Square Mall location as the last mall-based Gamestop in the Indianapolis/central Indiana area.

The Greenwood Mall location never made a lot of sense as there was another larger Gamestop across the street from the mall.

Of the 5 left in my area, there's 2 like this. Though if one closes, I except the larger store outside the mall to close, since it's less trafficked and in a kind of hard to get in and out spot. We'll see.

I imagine they would close the mall store instead based on rent costs. Mall rent is notoriously high and Gamestop seems to be moving out of malls for this reason.

A good possibility. I guess it would depend on foot traffic sales. They get a lots of parents walking in st the mall location.

So my first trip to buy PS4/PS5 games seems to have ended up unexpected. For the 4 for $40 ended up with:
- PS4 FF7 Remake Deluxe Edition (I think they gave me the wrong thing, but the dude triple checked the SKU)
- PS5 Jedi Survivor
- PS4 Dragon's Dogma
- PS4 FFO Stranger of Paradise

I was hoping to get PS4 RDR2, which seems to be available at a different Gamestop, via a return and rebuy (assuming they allow that) but I'm a little paranoid about the FF7 Deluxe issue.

Perused through the 10-K for Fiscal 2024:
  • 1688 leases up for Fiscal year 2025 worldwide
  • 970 stores closed worldwide bringing total to 3203 during fiscal year 2024, ending Feb 1
    • 590 stores closed in US, bringing total to 2325
We have also initiated a comprehensive store portfolio optimization review which involves identifying stores for closure based on many factors, including an evaluation of current market conditions and individual store performance. This review, among other things, resulted in the closure of 590 stores in the United States in fiscal 2024. While this review is ongoing and a specific set of stores has not been identified for closure, we anticipate closing a significant number of additional stores in fiscal 2025.

GameStop just announced they are shifting their primary business to market and currency manipulation, the stores are just an irrelevant front now. So they should be around as long as the collective FOMO and new wave greed 2.0 craze.

everyone came back according to their announcement video, from top to bottom. im surprised gamestop sold them off instead of shutting down completely.
I'm not surprised at all. If someone is willing to pay me for something I can no longer afford or want, I'd happily take the money. Especially if it was something that wasn't that profitable in my overall finances.

Been having decent luck in-stores padding the collection with the 4 for $$ promo. Cases been an issue as always, just getting the titles i need and will hunt down the cases later.
