Sweetness! The upcoming TARGET stores monthly catalog "GATHER AROUND" December issue reveals a $99.99 price-tag for the Nintendo DS system. You can observe the caption thru this link (scroll to pg.56 and click on the child with the blue DS) :

http://catalog.target.com/december/.../kidscatalog/flash/toycatalog/&versionnum=1.4

UPDATE: Appears to be an ad misprint, but Target stores WILL HONOR $99.99 DS price (provided that you have the December catalog on-hand or want to attempt an online print-out). For more details, look here:
http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000563069679

I was able to verify this deal using the original catalog with no hassles, but YMMV if you decide to use a print-out. Good luck and the promotion ends Dec.12.

UPDATE #2: I guess they already corrected the price for the DS on their website's online catalog, but you can still utilize the Target Guest Relations hotline number to authenticate the mis-price. It seems the promotion now ends Dec.5. Good luck.

If you have a Target card, be sure to check your mailbox! They just sent me a BIG envelope that I thought was just an advertisement. However, inside was an out-of-the-blue 10% off coupon good 'til the 30th. That won't help here if the sale starts on the 1st of December, but the MK Bundle - 10% would be 135$ - essentially giving you a 100$ DS :)

Can I find this catalog in stores? Even if it is a miss-print I can price match it at wal-mart. I did that with the Hollywood video Seinfield miss-print.

Yeah, same deal. Are these mail only catalogs?

You do see the "Gather Around" signs in store now, so hopefully the catalog is incoming. I'm still debating if I should bite or stick with using my GR credit. Anyone know if GR really even carries new DS games? If not, then it would be kinda pointless to save my credit for games instead of the system.
Tried it without catalog... Didn't work. With the catalog, there is still probably a shot.
the sale doesnt start ill Dec so no it would not work

Tried what, and where? If the catalog isn't out yet, even if that's not a typo, the price might not be active yet.

They do, and they've carried the budles too

Oh crap. Even Joystiq is reporting this deal:

http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000290069277/

Had this deal remained beneath the radar, there's at least a chance of a few of us finagling a cheap DS. But with every crazy yahoo walking into Target asking for a $99 DS, Target will soon figure out what's up and kill the deal before it starts.

Of course, this is assuming it's a price mix-up, which is what I'm guessing. But if it's a legitimate deal, I suppose we have nothing to worry about except finding it in stock. Fingers crossed.

I just talked to two guest representatives and the first one said that the price for the DS was a mistake. She did say if you bought one recently, you can take the catalog in with the receipt to get a price adjustment. She also said that the catalog will be sent out around November 28th. Seeing how I need that catalog, I called again to see if I could be put on the mailing list for it and the next person called the marketing department who handles the catalog and said that only a select number of people will receive the catalog. Now I'm wondering if I could print the website and bring that in. Anybody know?

I called a nearby Target today and they don't know when the $99.99 starts. They did indicate that they thought I would have a printed catalog but I said no, I just have it online from your site. They won't price match and give it to me at that price today. But they didn't sound surprised about the pricing. Don't know if that means anything though.

I asked the TL in Electronics today but he didn't know a damn thing about it but he said it is a possibility it is taking a price cut, even just a temporary one.

still once that ad hits the net a week BEFORE the actual sale, Im going to best buy and buying it at full price then going back when the ad comes out for a price match.

The Mario Kart bundle also comes with an AC adapter, an extra stylus, and other goodies (oh goody, stickers!). And let's not forget that it comes in shit-hot red. I'll stick with the bundle, thanks.

An extra stylus? Cool. I think it also comes with a wrist strap.

The standard DS package also comes with an AC adapter, an extra stylus, and a wrist strap. So unless you really want a red one (or the stickers), the $99 price is a better deal.

I'll admit, though, the red DS is pretty nifty looking. It might be worth that extra 15 bucks on its own, but I guess it's your call.

Let's get logical here. If the ad was a mistake, then by now, with all the publicity this thing is generating, Target would surely have fixed the misprint.

Clearly, this is the real deal, and you better believe I'll be in Target on Dec. 1 buying one.

You make a good point. Now if I didn't have the conundrum of GR credit to deal with... I will just have to investigate their DS game stock next week to see if they have enough for me to spend my credit on instead of the system itself.

I've been looking all over and cannot find a single online retailer (including Nintendo!) that explains what comes with the silver or blue DS. I didn't see anyone listing that the blue and silver DS come with an AC adaptor, so I figured that the red one got it.

I never thought that I would say this, but I would spend a little more money to get the red one.

I'm so ashamed.

The standard silver and blue DS comes with 1 regular stylus, a wrist strap, and the ac charger. There is no DS package you can buy new that dosent include these items.

The Mario cart bundle includes these things plus a second, larger MK stylus, the MK game in a paper sleeve, and some stickers (the stickers you see on the box cover are not on the unit by default).

Bah, I hate it when they don't give you a game case with bundled games.

Are you sure about that paper sleeve bit? Laaaame. :(

Maybe I will just get this plain-silver one.

I hope that this works out, cause I totally have $100 just begging to be spent.

so if this ad comes to print and it's just a target exclusive and not a price drop couldnt we take the ad to circuit city and get it 10% cheaper?

All new DS systems actually come with a second regular stylus packed in. One is tucked away in the slot on the system and one is in a separate plastic baggie.

True true - I had forgotten about the extra one....

I'm hearing conflicting reports on this today. FW forum said TGT pricematched the ad early, but the local store here refused to budge. Any real world reports out there?

PEOPLE JUMP ON THIS AD NOW!
http://joystiq.com/entry/1234000563069679

SOME STORES ALREADY HAVE THE PRICE DOWN TO $99 WITHOUT ANY HASTLE. IF YOU STORE IS CAUSING ANY PROBLEMS, PRINT OUT THE PAGE OF THE AD AND THE EMAIL LISTED IN THE LINK ABOVE. THIS DEAL LASTS UNTILL DEC 12TH AND ONCE THIS GETS OUT THEY WILL BE SELLING OUT LIKE HOT CAKES! IF YOU HAVE EVER WANTED A DS BUY IT NOW!!
Hell, I'll go tomorrow and try to get one.
Hell, I'll try it tonight. As far as the ad, I guess just go with the printout of the page of the catalog online. Not many people have the catalog it seems, but its not as if the online version is unofficial.

Did my best to get a good screencap of the catalog, feel free to try it. I won't be able to get out till tomorrow, at which point I will hit two Targets and Circuit City until someone matches that price.

I'll be stopping in the office first to make some unrelated copies and get a nice laser color printout of that, hopefully less likely to be called as a fake. And I'll be adding that phone number to the back so they are free to call corporate on it.
With the CC price match, does that mean that they (maybe) will sell the DS to me for $90?
Nah, it'd be $97. 10% off $30.
Nah, it'd be $97. 10% off $30.
? explain. If the DS is $100, 10% of 100=10 100-10= 90

It's 10% of the difference. MSRP is $130.

I heard that the price was a mistake printed in the ad and that the stores are going to be putting up signs on the door saying that the price was a mistake and is not going to be honored. But that is only a rumor.

hmmm, I think I'll go try this in a few minutes... just wondering what the best way to approach this is. Target employees cannot be in a good mood today.

I would just take it to the register and see what happens (whether that's the electronics register or the main cashiers). I've never dealt with pricing at Target, because they don't do competitor pricematching. Just get the number from that Joystiq article in case they deny you initially, and go from there. That's what I'll be doing tomorrow.

If there is a print version of this ad, take it to Wal-Mart and price match. :)
