2024 Thrift Store And Yard Sale Pickups Thread

Back from my vacation and here is my bi-weekly post. No pics due to laziness and most of it is packed up:

From my vacation:
Smallville Screener DVD for the episode Justice to add to my collection of screener DVDs
sealed Into the Wild Soundtrack on CD

Two weekends ago:
Jason and the Argonauts on DVD
Star Wars Special Edition VHS trilogy

This weekend I only found something at one garage sale I went to and passed up a very valuable game the first time I went to the garage sale. Thankfully I went back the next day before work and it was still there. It was in a place that was really out of the way so I'm glad I rescued it from being too sunbaked (thankfully it was in a case). Anyhow I got all of these PS2 games for $15 after two trips:

Conflict: Desert Storm
IHRA Drag Racing 2
Power Drome
SpyHunter
Supercar Street Racing
Super Trucks Racing
Transworld Surf
Woody Woodpecker: Escape From Buzzard Park
Tom & Jerry War of the Whiskers
Star Wars Battlefront (case is a bit water damaged but the disc looks good)

Then the big find that I passed up initially:

a disc only copy of Def Jam: Fight for New York
Play Def Jam NY its a great game!

Play Def Jam NY its a great game!
I plan on it. I need to test out the controllers I got with the PS2 slims I got earlier in the summer.

Here is what I found today as despite only hitting up four garage sales it was a good day near my place:

Dirty Work on DVD for $2
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest PSP $2
A crushed Pokemon Go card tin with six or seven cards in it for a quarter (nothing good in there, but it will be good for the start of a bulk deal if I find more.
The Birds 2 promo tape on VHS for a buck

Then the big find for fifty cents each I got the following for PS4. They were in a bin full of DVDs:
CoD Modern Warfare with an extra disc of Uncharted 4 in there
Madden 19
Marvel's Spider-Man
Resident Evil 2 remake
The Crew 2
Project Cars 2

Been surprisingly dry (no pun intended) the last few weeks since I last posted. Went to a couple of large thrift sales in the area and I the most I got was a box of toys for $10 that included a lot of poor condition vintage Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars, and a console only Genesis along with a WCW N64 game for $10. I got some DVDs of course, but nothing really to write home about aside from Pete's Dragon on DVD. But then I went thrifting this week and it seemed like the DVD and blu-ray gods shined on me. I got the Harry Potter movies on Blu-ray (sealed) for $4, then I got these for $2 apiece. No idea what Dragon Ball Z Kai is, but I looked it up online and it seems like the individual blu-rays go for a decent amount of money especially with the slipcovers (which mine are lacking of course).

Thrift Stores were really slow recently. And I wasnt going everyday. No yardsales either.

Goodwill- The Sonic sign was $4.67, gave that to my nephews. I didnt find anything for a month after that! Then I found the Fallout mask.

Story- I sent a Pic of some crazy overpriced stuff at the local Goodwill to someone I see in there all the time and they told me about how there was a media cart pushed out 20 mins before closing on Monday night that had a shelf of NES games! They got 10 uncommonish games for $6.01 apiece. They said the employee said, "we got the good ones coming out tomorrow". I rarely go on my lunch break but I had to check it out. It killed me a little inside but I paid $10.93 apiece for the NES and Sega CD games. Apparently there had also been a $10.93 copy of GI Joe and some $30.44 games according to price tags in the locked case. I'm dying to know what games someone paid Goodwill $30.44 for! The Wii Sports and WSR were fkn $7.48 apiece, only bought them because they're worth $25 apiece. The NGE dvd was $4.67. The mask was $4.67, VHS were 24 cents apiece, and the GD hat was $6.78.

Remember when video games were $3.99 (I actually remember $1.99 games at one GW), DVDs were $1.99, CDs were $0.99, shoes were maybe $20 tops, etc?! Im seeing $7.48 common/meh disc games/PC games, the $11 retro games (which is hit or miss but too much for GW imo), $2.54 for the "good" CDs (anything that isnt holiday or orchestral from what ive seen), upwards of $5 for DVDs/ pushing $10 for sets, $10-$30 records, $16-$50 used shoes, saw a $70 dusty ass Sony stereo the other day! I doubt theyll respond back but I sent an email to the Mersgoodwill contact page about how crazy the prices are getting. Most of the stuff is sitting until 50/75% off day because theyre out pricing resellers and people who actually could use cheap items! "Theyre just trying to make more money for the store, it costs money to run that building and pay employees"...... see my line about people waiting until Sale Days!

Been drier than the Sahara here for garage sales. There was a cold snap this past weekend and Labor Day was dead as always. No games aside from some pretty common PS2 games at a garage sale. Went to a local trade center by my work and picked these up. I don't have a Super 8 projector but they were so cool I had to have them. Even at $20 apiece. Beneath is sealed.rla080cujfnd1.jpeg

Thrifts just arent providing much, almost losing interest. I havent gone to GW after work everyday since last month since theres usually nothing or anything cool is priced more than id ever give them ($60 for a light up Bud Light Lime sign that last sold for $85 on Ebay). Didnt even go out today. The small thrifts have my card but they never text me, I think they like when I just walk in! Plus side- it is nice selling more on Ebay vs things I have coming in for once!

Goodwill- Warcraft figure was $3, the sealed tapes were $3, the Charmander glass was $1.78.

Small Thrift, $12.

Goodwill- everything was $3 apiece!

Despite the fact I had a project to do (copying TurboGrafx/TGCD to my Polymega) I ended up going to 2 yardsales and 5 thrifts...... shouldve just went to the last thrift! Either nothing or stuff I kinda wanted but didnt want to bother with like a $5 Xbox One ac adapter and a $4 Christmas Billy Bass in box. Saw a stack of PS2 games for $2 apiece at a thrift I rarely go to but all sports. Should probably go there more often if all games end up being $2!

Small Thrift- $10. The Skullcandys are sealed and the deal was I would test the others and throw them some $ next weekend if they work. The Corsair ones might just be out of box because they still have plastic over the cups and mic.

Goodwill- sealed game and puzzle were $3 apiece, Tomb Raider 2 with manual was $4, Terraria was $4.67, and sealed 3 pack of racquet balls were $1.34.... I got blue balls at the Goodwill!

I am going thrifting a lot less than usual of late due to going on a trip to Japan early next year, but I did snag a couple of PS1 games for $1 apiece:

Syphon Filter 2
Theme Park (missing manual)

The stereo was $30 from Goodwill, more than I'd like to give them for anything but it had 8 D batteries in it and works! Probably a $100ish stereo once I clean it up. The games were from a small thrift for $1 apiece. Also grabbed 20 something posters that they just took in and other people started looking at... those will be a separate post. Ended up giving them $50 for the games, posters, and back payment for the headsets I got last week and tested.

I have no idea why I cant just post the link for the poster pickup on here without it being all stupid?! It posts a white square with a broken link message. Even if I just try to post text only. If anyone is that interested its "Thrift Store Poster Pickup 10/20/24" on IMGUR. Anyways-

Small thrift- Guitar Hero pedal and DS games, one sealed $8. Goodwill- sealed Portal 2 was $7.48, the cassette players were $4.67 apiece, the PS1 game was $4.67, and the Rick Grimes figure was was $1.99.

Goodwill- $50. Couldn't find this specific one on Ebay but I found an old Walmart listing for $130.

Goodwill- Bluetooth cassette for 43 cents, like new open box dvd player and phone were like $5 apiece.

Goodwill- Majoras Mask light was $4.67, plush were $2 apiece, games were $4.67 apiece. Model rocket was $5.

Small thrift- fly fishing pole tube, Wii Sports, dvd drive were $10. Tube is worth like $30!

Small thrift- $1 apiece. World Series Poker case had the Spiderman 2 UMD in it. Sahara is sealed.

Newish small thrift store is probably shutting down soon. They aren't getting the business they need to satisfy the landlord who sounds like a real biatch! I offered $100 for the rest of their video games and a doorstop that we needed at work. Lots of sports and some empty cases but I only threw away 5 discs that I couldn't get to buff out and work from the whole pile!

I found the Tomb Raider DS game in the PC box. Nice surprise! Ripped all the Xbox360 stuff I didn't have to my modded 360. Ripped all the PlayStation stuff I didn't have to my PC.

Goodwill, $0.26. Another Pokémon VHS checked off the list. Forgot about this episode.... little tearjerker!

CDs were 50 cents apiece from a local thrift. The knockoff Airwick mist bottle was 25 cents. The 20th Anniversary Pokémon plush was $2 at Goodwill.

Same thrift as the CDs- Rick And Morty, HunterxHunter, and Hisoka socks were in a $4 bundle, the 2 baggies full of Las Vegas casino matchbooks were $1 apiece, and the giant 1988 crayon bank was $1. Also got an Acer Aspire TC-1760-UA92 PC for $5!

I don't think it was even used. Super clean. Still had some of the plastic wrap on the corners. Might be a $250-$300 PC! It was sitting on the bottom shelf last week and I didn't think twice about looking because there was so much stuff infront of it. That area was cleaned up this time so I looked up the model number.
