$3.00 warranty @ EB Games. Has anyone used this?

I went into EB games and the guy asked me if I'd like to buy a warranty on my game that basically allowed me to return it for any reason (including scratches he said) and exchange it for a new copy of the same title & if it was no longer in stock, I could get credit towards anything else in the store. Is this to good to be true or what? I bought it. I figure after a couple of months bring it back and get something else. Just wondering if anyone has ever done this.

your plan won't work if its in stock.

..well, obviously. Considering it's a plan to replace a game with a new game that's in stock, I think that's the point.

I say why not.. I mean, honestly. My Burnout 3 might be about to bite the dust, and if they had the guarentee back then, I would've probably gotten it. On extremely huge games that you know you'll play a lot (GTA, Burnout, etc), sure, what the hell, why not? I'd rather spend three bucks and get a replacement copy instead of buying it again.

As far as your theory, I would imagine that they would give you used value for it, and what the game is currently at instead of what you bought it at. Example.. some guy buys Ghost Recon 2 at $50. He comes back months later and now it's $19.99. He'd get $19.99.. maybe even $14.99 in credit, not the $49.99 he originally paid.. but I could be completely wrong.

I am guessing that they'd store credit in the amount you paid.

The warranty thing is BS. It's just a good escuse to suck more money outta of idiot consumers. Not saying that the OP is, but come on. Does anyone really need this? No...

I don't have any experience with the EB warranty, but with a lot of warranties, they'll make it sound sweet but when you call them on it it won't be nearly as easy or as good a deal as they said to make you buy it.

I only use it on RPGs that I know will either take some time to beat or have too many games to play before it. It did come in handy with a GH copy of Final Fantasy Tactics, which locked up during the FMVs. Which I didn't know until last week(which I bought the game in November), and swapped it for a Non-GH version. All they asked me for was the recepit(as proof of purchase).

I bought REZ and Gitaroo Man at EB.
GOOD Luck replacing them. I better use $3 to professionally resurface them.

You do realize this thing actually works and people use this all the time, correct? I mean, most of the posters here don't need this, but do you realize just how many games get traded in at EB scratched to hell? This caters to the parents with little tykes, or people who don't respect their own property.

Just because you don't need it doesn't mean it is bullshit.

3 bucks? damn-my EB charges a doller. Never used one for the games, but the controller warrenty I have used a few times (bad day on killzone ;P . if they don't have the same, they give me one of the same value. Even took the warrenties on a used old ps2, and my new pstwo just incase they start the disc read error-sony's warrenty blows

$9.99 or less: $1
$10-$24.99: $2
$25.00 or more: $3

A warranty for a plastic disc with no moving parts? I guess if you like to use your discs for coasters or something. There are some people who can't be bothered to put their discs back in the cases. Idiots.

On any game that comes on a disk, you will only need this if you treat you games like crap. If you don't walk on them or beat the shit out of them, you don't need this. Its just a scam to get $3 more per title out of you.

Just keep your $3 and take decent care of your stuff and it won't be a problem.

"Hi... would you like to buy our extended warranty? I'm not saying that we sell total crap and itll break as soon as you get it home... but we do and it will..."

Its npt a waste of money to get it with used games. Even if they aren't scratched or anything, you never know. I had to return two used games both of which starting freezung up a little a few months after I got them.

Yep...all of EB's games are sold defective, even the factory sealed ones!

I have to respectfully disagree here with what was said about all of the extended warranties.

I agree that on a video game it might seem overkill, just treat your games decent and they won't break, however on other items like consoles this is pretty much a great deal.

I recently bought a slim ps2 at BestBuy with a 2yr plan ($19.99). In the second week, the console went dead, seems the laser burnt out. I just went there with the box, showed em my receipt and the product replacement plan.

They checked if my box was complete, and just went out and gave me a new pstwo box, how easy is that?

The warranty like this is good for TWO years, for just $19.99! Remember that the standard sony warranty on the pstwo is...90 days. If it breaks beyond those 90 days, you got a $150 bookweight.

That's just my 2 cents on these replacement plans.

I work at EB, Have for a while now. The Warrenties go like so

For any game or dvd in the store under 9.99, it cost 1$ to protect it for a year
9.99-24.99 is 2$
24.99-99.99 is 3$

If the game doesn't play within a year of purchase, you can bring it back to any EB with the receipt and they will swap it out for another copy of the same game, if the same game is not in stock, usually, depends on the worker, they will let you swap it out for something else, were not susspoed to, but we do anyways. worst comes to worst, you can get credit for On-Line Purchase of the same game.

It may seem like a rip off- i mean 3$ to protect a game... But just remember the famous GTA Vice City glitch that was about 4 months into the game people found it, and theres plenty other ones out there to. I would only buy it on preplayed games personally, because if you bring back a new game within a month or two usually you can swap it out for the same game.

i would buy warranties for consoles instead of games. if u know how to treat games right with holding the disc on the edges on inside of the hole of the disc then u r fine. my 3 plus month old xbox just crapped out on me about a week ago and i had bought a warranty for my xbox for 15 bucks for one year since xbox 2 was going to come out after the warranty is up. i just went up to eb employee with my complete xbox and my receipt for the warranty and the eb employee gave me a new xbox but i had to pay another 15 buck warranty :(. anyways i think people should be warranty on consoles and not games. i'm definately going to put a 2-year warranty on the new consoles coming out which i think at eb cost about 25 bucks which is steal instead of paying approx at least 300 bucks for a new console.

All I'll say is that in 10+ years of optical-media-based console gaming, I've never had a disc get ruined or "go bad" on me. This is pure profit for EB and...if you ask me it's not worth it.

I was refering to Best Buy... I hate them. They don't have anything reasonably priced. My gf got me a pair of wireless headphones there that didn't work. Brought them back for a better pair... didn't work. Brought it back, got 2 games and a controller... Controller DIDN'T WORK! I spent an hour looking for something I wouldnt get screwed on... I finally said screw it, got the GGC and bought 2 memory cards.
