THE GIST:
87 TRU's are closing
Current sale at (will drop to bigger discounts):

10-30% off all consoles
20-50% off all games
20-50% off all guides
40-50% off all accessories

*All discount amounts YMMV. Check the list below for a possible update on where each store is at.
*All items bought cannot be returned or exchanged anywhere (the barcodes will be crossed out with a marker).
*Further discounts should happen every 1, 2 weeks. It seemed at first it would be a YMMV on when, but it seems all stores are dropping prices at the same time.
*Stores will probably close sometime around Feb. 27th, give or take a couple weeks. Really just depends on how much merch is still moving when that time comes.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the store/sale list!

1/7 3AM EDIT: I am going to my TRU tomorrow to shop, as I bet many of the rest of you will too. Post what deals and stores you find and hopefully we can compile something worthwhile here. ^_^

1/7 1PM EDIT: Trying to compile what stores we have confirmed are closing; also adding what seems to be the current sale. Since each store is bought by local liqudators, your discounts may be different and drop slower/faster, so YMMV on the discounts, for better or for worse.

1/8 11PM EDIT: Looks like we are looking at about two weeks for the next drop, which should be to 20% - 40%. The time of the drop and the amount is up to each liqudator, so YMMV when it comes to it. But two weeks should be about right for all the stores. Store list updated, along with return policy. Forgot to ask about exchanges though, doh. >_<

1/11 2:30PM EDIT: Changed closed store total from 72 to 87, 12 of which are being turned into Babys R Us. Closing store list also updated.

1/13 3:30AM EDIT: Updated the closed store list. Added a note below about "fixture" sale information (which probably varies per store on how they go about selling the stuff off).

1/13 11:45PM EDIT: Updated the closed store list. Added news on possible console discounts.

1/16 3PM EDIT: Looks like Reality's Fringe was right on a nation-wide clearance increase, so thanks to him for the head's up!

1/16 11PM EDIT: Complete closing store list added!

2/9 7:30PM EDIT: Updated %s

I walked into work today for my paycheck and to price adjust some games, and one of the managers took me aside, gave me some paperwork and told me our TRU (Bellingham, WA) along with 72 others are being closed, effective tomorrow. Well, at least my store tomorrow, but I assume everyone else is in the same boat. The earliest they will actually close their doors is Feburary 27th, so there will be plenty of time to take advantage of the sale.

According to the manager, everything will be clearanced for the closing sale starting tomorrow, and only a few things will not be part of that, being video game hardware. I asked about games and she said she didn't know. I don't know exactly what the clearance is going to start at, but I would say 30% (what the GT sale usually starts at) would be a good guess.

If you bought anything from a closing TRU before today and you want to return, exchange, price adjust, whatever, you can still do so. But: everything bought from here on out CANNOT be returned. If they are like my store, they take a big black marker and cross out the UPC. They do this so you cannot return it to another TRU. I didn't get the whole speech, so exchanges may be okay, but no more returns, no more price adjustments.

Also: all TRU coupons, sales, price drops, whatever are no longer valid at the closing stores, since they are not really TRUs anymore.

If not already, you should be seeing soon some sort of poster, fill-out form, whatever in your TRU about selling the fixtures, etc. This includes video game display posters, standees, the playable game set-ups, etc. At my store, it was a cardboard kisok thing with a form you filled out with your contact info and what you want, and they'll contact you with a price. Don't know what things will go for, but you may or may not be able to score some cool stuff.
Stopped by the Signal Hill, CA today and found the aisles picked nearly clean. It must've been a mad house there. I picked up ESPN NFL 2K5 for $7 and Gunstar Superheroes for $21. Not too bad, but not too hot either.
hmm signal hill must not have marked down gunstar superheroes
it's $19.99 at the non closing locations in torrance
']Actually...they just pulled all the games and put them in back. They still have some games, they're just not out (at least they weren't as of about 4pm Saturday)...

RD
RD was right, the games are back out after fixing their "glitch". I asked about the one game that didnt have a new pricetag, which was Jungle Beat W/ Bongos and it rang up at $17.89. Seems they missed one. Score for me.

I went to the Albany, OR store tonight and the game section was already torn down. They moved the leftover to just outside the section and there were only less than a handful of games left, and some accessories that people didn't care about.

I wonder what happened to the games. I was there less than 2 weeks ago and they still had tons of games.

Not a lot left, but I did pick up F-Zero for the GBA for $7...and a Goliath the Lion plush toy for my five month old. 8)

Does anyone who works at one of these TRU know if there is a cutoff number for how high the % off is going to get. I'm waiting on a Donka Konga with Bongos but don't want to miss it.

Scored a bunch of DS games at 40% off, I don't think they'll last much longer. I'm perfectly content with the prices since I know they won't be around for long if they do drop again. Besides the TRU nearest me almost done they've emptied out the store and shelves are going out now, games are out on tables, so this very well may be the last call. At this point I'll take what I can get, but I'm going to try to take everything I can get too!

My local TRU has an obscene amount of Dragon Booster (?) for DS left in stock. Wondering if they'll last until a really good drop considering how many are left. Anyone play this or know if it's worth getting? I read bad reviews on it, but I always like to know what CAGs think as well.

Also, anyone know if Karaoke Revolution w/ Mic counts as a game or accessory to get a better percentage off?

I think it's a game. However, Eyetoy games, if you can find them (I got Kinetic for 50% off 2 weeks ago) are considered accessories so those are a steal at 70% off now!

I got 11 DS games for under $200 before tax today, hot damn you can't beat that with a poo stick.

My TRU will be closing by Next Saturday. They say the discount should get anywhere between 60%-70% off games. I hope my tax return comes in by then. There's still a few games I'll buy.

I hit the Parssipany location in NJ last night (Tuesday)...Everything that's left in Video Games is 40% off. They still had for DS: Ultimate Spiderman, Tony Hawk, Polarium and Trace Memory.

For X-box: Karaoke Revolution Party (non bundle), Narnia, SW Battlefront 2, Advent Rising and a bunch of others.

For Gamecube: Starfox Assault, Sonic Two Pack.

PS2: Very little left. 1 copy of Kinetic

GBA: Tron, Pinball Tycoon, Sigma Star.

All solve guides are 70% off now.

They still have some other electronics like the Batman portable dvd player, and cordless phone and a few of the portable X-box video screens.
Bridgeton, MO is now 30%-50% off. Lots of intec accessories left, Game Boy Micros and GC drum games still plentiful also.
Might be worth swinging by there, if they're in the 30%-50% off range.

Thanks for the info.

Dragon booster is your standard kiddie crap DS game, got less than a 4 (out of 10) on most rating sites, might be worth picking up for like 9.99 though for the collection. Its based off an ABC family show i believe, i watched the show once and its your typical new style kiddie crapola show.

Ok, i just stopped at the niagara falls TRU, tons of copies of polarium for 6.99 each (i picked one up for myself) and a few final fantasy crystal chronicals left also for 6.99.

The DS games have reappeared, however now the PS2 games have dissappeared, they also had a cart of ps1 games, probably nothing worth picking up though. This store really is a mixed bag, i am not sure whats going on, there were no DS games the last time i was there now there are some.

Also XBOX 360 ALERT: This store has a few copies of FIFA and Project Gotham racing, they are in the case i mentioned earlier so you will have to get a staff member if you want to purchase one of these games.

The prices are still at 30-50 % off, store is still packed with merchandise in general,

My local TRU still has some Sigma Star Saga (GBA) left, but it's $30 there and even with 40% off it's still $18 and you can get it new at Best Buy with GCC for $14.99, so it's still not a deal.

The Tampa TRU has enormous (and I mean HUGE) stacks of Polarium, Texas Hold 'Em, Dragon Booster, and Pinball Tycoon! I've never seen that many copies of any game at one TRU! Must be shipping them in from other stores just to get rid of them all.

The store thats closing near me has TONS of stuff left, im greedy waiting for prices to go even lower. All good gmes still left

So apparently TRU isn't doing the MSRP markdowns that other stores are doing?

I'd love to get Suikoden Tactics + Suffering: Ties That Bind, but not if they are still charging $40 + $50 respectively now that both games have dropped to $30.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but since everyone in this thread is probably visiting a TRU keep an eye out for a PS2 Starter Pack for $0.98. It has a Turbo Shock 2 controller, a lighted dvd remoted, a controller extension cable, and a protective storage bag! There's 2 left at the TRU in the Grossmont San Diego area location.

I was driving by the Wheaton, MD store today and stopped in. Picked up, after discount: 360 memory unit for $20, Polarium and Metroid Pinball (DS) for $6 and $21, and Psychonauts (Xbox) for $18. Plus some stuff for my daughter.

And I know that they are better prices than retail, but this still is not discount enough for me. Call me crazy, but I'll only bite on the next set of drops.

How is Metroid Pinball $6?

YES!!!! I got it! I went to the store with $200 cash and ended up getting it for free!

They gave that to you for free? Good score, where the hell to you put something like that.

The Tampa, FL TRU has signs up stating Feb. 25 is the last day. Everything is 40% to 60% off now.

The video game section got completely raped with just the extra 10% drop. They still had decent stuff at 30%, but now there's barely anything in the store at all! Two-thirds of the store is sectioned off and very little is left. Pretty much every doll is gone now too.

Only video games still leftover were HUGE stacks of Gunstar Super Heroes (GBA), Texas Hold 'Em (GBA), Pinball Tycoon (GBA), Polarium (DS), Ultimate Spider-Man (DS), Tony Hawk's American Sk8land (DS), Dragon Booster (DS), Baten Kaitos (GC), Jak 3 (PS2), Dora the Explorer (PS2), EyeToy AntiGrav (PS2), and a few Taiko Drum Master (PS2).

They have so many of those left (aside from Taiko), it's hard to see them selling all of them off in 9 days. Polarium could become one of the best cheapest games of all time considering how many clearance sales it's been a part of.

What...? That's bullshit, they still had plenty last time I was there, of the higher priced games.

I have a feeling one of the local resellers there bought up almost the entire stock, if this is truly everything they have left. I wanted that Suikoden Tactics (they had three there, that were still there at 30% off) but without them lowering the MSRP to $30, I was waiting for 40%... hard to believe anyone would have wanted all three of them.

Maybe they are shipping the leftover stock that will sell to one of the three neighboring TRU's?

^^^ You may be right. Didn't occur to me until you brought it up, but once the stores drop the discounts that high, maybe they ship some of the stock to other TRU stores since it's a more managable load to relocate. No way that many toys and games can be gone in just 3 days since I was last there. I'm guessing other closing TRUs will do the same thing with their remaining stock.

I was in the Dale Mabry store this past Friday, and they had at least 50-60 higher-priced games still in the glass case. Maybe a reseller bought them in bulk, like Roufuss said. I don't think they'd move it to another local store - my understanding is that everything in the store technically belongs to the liquidation company now, not TRU.

On Friday they were only giving 40% off on game guides, which sucks. The Taiko Drum Master sets were $34.95 after discount. Have they dropped any further? I'm not going to pay more than $25 for that game.

tru in sd (mira mesa) is now 30/50, store is closing up march 26. there isn't much there though, gunstar heroes was probably the only game i wanted and they have lots there (10+ copies)...

i work at toys r us and we do ship some of our things to other stores.

i dont know if this has been posted but the strategy guides are 70% off

The North Houston store went to 50/70 percent off today. Got my copy of Psychonauts for the Xbox for $15 and the last 12-mnoth Xbox live starter pack for $20.

Still a lot of Drum Masters. Quite a few copies of Psychonauts if anyone is interested in that. Not too much else left (that looks to be much of a deal).

I also talked with an employee. Their last day of business is 2/25/2006.

I may hit them up again next week just to see what's left.

-Alan

your man JEKKI scored the last Fatal Frame 3 in Brea.

they also had quite a number of polarium, gunstar superheroes, klonoa gba, feel the magic, and tony hawk ds.

Ill come back for those later tho...

currently 40% off games, store closes March 5.

Does anyone know of any retro looking Toys R Us stores in the Connecticut, Mass, etc. areas? I believe there are still some out there that never adhered to the bastardized 2000 remodeling. The most retro one (in Waterbury, CT) recently (a year ago?) revamped and now it's soulless like many of the others around me.

Emeryville, CA TRU store is 40%-50% off today. No, it's not a typo. Games are 40% off and Game accessories are 50% off (no change from last week).

Went to SF and Serramonte TRUs today. The SF one is all cleaned out. However I did find the GTA:SA strategy guide, but it didn't pick it up since I played most of the game without it already.

As for the Serramonte one, it's much better. Got some decent game selection, but still overpriced a bit in my opinion. Funny thing is the rack of 100 copies of Baten Kaitos (with soundtrack) just sitting there. I end up getting Polarium, Feel the Magic, and four strategy guides (Doom 3, Jade Empire, Advance Wars:DS, FF:IV) since they were all 70% off. I also wanted to pick up Fatal Frame 3, but I figure I probably won't play it for a long time anyway.

Maybe I'll go look one more time before I go back to school on Monday.

Does anyone in Tampa know if the Dale Mabry closing store had any guides left, what they were, and what percentage off they were?

Went to the Ogden Utah store again tonight. Guy in R Zone said that it would be another 3 - 5 weeks before another drop. Currently they are at 30 and 50% off. The guy also said they would be closing April 1. There really isn't a lot left there though. He told me they would be sending some games to other stores in the near future. I am not sure if he is right or not on that.

I went to the 4340 West Broad St. store in Columbus, Ohio. They're currently doing 50% off games and 70% off accessories, but they had a otn of GBA poker games for $3. Also, they had a ton of $6 DDR pads for PS2, and close to 100 copies of Baten Kaitos for $15.

could i use a gift card at one of the closing targets? i just got a $50 gift card and am wondering if i could use it there

Albany, OR store went 50%-80% off. All games were cleaned out. What's left were a bunch of game guides and few third-party accessories for PSP mostly. The game guides scanned at full price minus 50% off.

Yeah, the SF store is the closest one to me, and it has been picked clean for quite awhile now. I couldn't believe how fast the merchandise was bought up. When the store was at 20-40% off, many of their prices were just becoming in line with what you can pay online.... yet people acted like it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. To each his own, I suppose, but CAG has spoiled me.
could i use a gift card at one of the closing targets? i just got a $50 gift card and am wondering if i could use it there
If you mean TRUs and not Targets, then yes you should be able. I was able to use a couple gift cards at the closing Vallejo TRU when it was 50% off accessories.

So, anybody interested in shipping me a polarium? I'm still looking :p, PM me if you're willing.

JEKKI - that baby (yours?) in your avatar has hypnotic powers...

I just got back from Lansing IL TRU, they're at 50/80% Not much left, Still a decent selection of GBA and DS stuff and a few xbox live kits though. Last day is the 25th for them. The checker said that all the IL stores should be the same now.

Akron, OH is 30/50 still as of yesterday.

They said they did ship out most of the good games to other stores. They also said they got stuff in from other stores as well. I think the only thing they got was Baten kaitos, GT4, Gunstar Super Heroes and World Poke GBA. They have about 150 BK, 100 Gunstar, and over 200 of the poker game out on the floor. No exaggerations.

Still a good selection of accessories - waiting for 40 or 50% to pick up Metroid Pinball and maybe Tony Hawk if its left

This had to have happened at Dale Mabry as well... my friend saw NO psp games at 40% off, yet a different friend went today now that its 50% off and saw about 7 copies of Tony Hawk 2 Remix for PSP, and the 30 + dragon boosters are now gone, along with the many many copies of Gunstar Super Heroes.
