THE GIST:
87 TRU's are closing
Current sale at (will drop to bigger discounts):

10-30% off all consoles
20-50% off all games
20-50% off all guides
40-50% off all accessories

*All discount amounts YMMV. Check the list below for a possible update on where each store is at.
*All items bought cannot be returned or exchanged anywhere (the barcodes will be crossed out with a marker).
*Further discounts should happen every 1, 2 weeks. It seemed at first it would be a YMMV on when, but it seems all stores are dropping prices at the same time.
*Stores will probably close sometime around Feb. 27th, give or take a couple weeks. Really just depends on how much merch is still moving when that time comes.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the store/sale list!

***

1/7 3AM EDIT: I am going to my TRU tomorrow to shop, as I bet many of the rest of you will too. Post what deals and stores you find and hopefully we can compile something worthwhile here. ^_^

1/7 1PM EDIT: Trying to compile what stores we have confirmed are closing; also adding what seems to be the current sale. Since each store is bought by local liqudators, your discounts may be different and drop slower/faster, so YMMV on the discounts, for better or for worse.

1/8 11PM EDIT: Looks like we are looking at about two weeks for the next drop, which should be to 20% - 40%. The time of the drop and the amount is up to each liqudator, so YMMV when it comes to it. But two weeks should be about right for all the stores. Store list updated, along with return policy. Forgot to ask about exchanges though, doh. >_<

1/11 2:30PM EDIT: Changed closed store total from 72 to 87, 12 of which are being turned into Babys R Us. Closing store list also updated.

1/13 3:30AM EDIT: Updated the closed store list. Added a note below about "fixture" sale information (which probably varies per store on how they go about selling the stuff off).

1/13 11:45PM EDIT: Updated the closed store list. Added news on possible console discounts.

1/16 3PM EDIT: Looks like Reality's Fringe was right on a nation-wide clearance increase, so thanks to him for the head's up!

1/16 11PM EDIT: Complete closing store list added!

2/9 7:30PM EDIT: Updated %s

I walked into work today for my paycheck and to price adjust some games, and one of the managers took me aside, gave me some paperwork and told me our TRU (Bellingham, WA) along with 72 others are being closed, effective tomorrow. Well, at least my store tomorrow, but I assume everyone else is in the same boat. The earliest they will actually close their doors is Feburary 27th, so there will be plenty of time to take advantage of the sale.

According to the manager, everything will be clearanced for the closing sale starting tomorrow, and only a few things will not be part of that, being video game hardware. I asked about games and she said she didn't know. I don't know exactly what the clearance is going to start at, but I would say 30% (what the GT sale usually starts at) would be a good guess.

If you bought anything from a closing TRU before today and you want to return, exchange, price adjust, whatever, you can still do so. But: everything bought from here on out CANNOT be returned. If they are like my store, they take a big black marker and cross out the UPC. They do this so you cannot return it to another TRU. I didn't get the whole speech, so exchanges may be okay, but no more returns, no more price adjustments.

Also: all TRU coupons, sales, price drops, whatever are no longer valid at the closing stores, since they are not really TRUs anymore.

If not already, you should be seeing soon some sort of poster, fill-out form, whatever in your TRU about selling the fixtures, etc. This includes video game display posters, standees, the playable game set-ups, etc. At my store, it was a cardboard kisok thing with a form you filled out with your contact info and what you want, and they'll contact you with a price. Don't know what things will go for, but you may or may not be able to score some cool stuff.

I was at the one in Holyoke last weekend, and there isn't anything left other than a few games that aren't great deals, and TONS and I mean TONS of this one poker game for the Gameboy for like $2.49.

Johankoss, the only way an XBOX for 200 would be a good deal is if it were an Xbox 360.

The store in Springfield told me that they 'couldnt' sell the display model systems, though the Sam Goody nearer me thats also going out of biz said they would do it the last week and to stop back then.

And for M0dem, there were NO systems left at the Springfield, PA store. Though the one up by me in Towanda had some PSones left, as well as one or two of the PSone/LCD screen combos, for only $149 before discount. LOL What a joke.

As for the person who said the TRU near them upped the price on some sports games that didn't even cost 50 when they first released, I have to ask.....

What did you expect? Even the Sam Goody stores were doing this when I checked in a couple of them over the past 2 weeks.

Anyway, I may be going back to Springfield prior to store close on Saturday just to see if theres anything left. I may snag a copy of Psychonauts if theres any left by then.

or even see if Spartan Total Warrior is still in stock, they had plenty of copies on Monday when I stopped in.

i got some polarium ds for 11 (10.50 what i paid + finders fee, gas, information gathering costs, etc... )dollars at non closing tru, anyone want one? you pay shipping though.

You all won't believe the cray that I saw a few days ago. As I went to pick up 50% off Psychonauts...and still think that TH AW (DS) and Polarium at these prices was still not worth it....I saw two TRU employees checking out at the Customer Service desk each a brand new Xbox. This was B.S. And the manager was in the vicinity, so this must have been somewhat sanctioned. I was rip-shite. How in the world could this have happened without some chicanery.

Let us know how much Sam Goody wants for their display?

Anyways, I know that the box alone is in no way worth 200 bucks, but curious about thoughts on the stand and all with the box.

I am just curious how much you would expect to pay for something like that.

This kind of stuff would have pissed me off a year or two ago, but I've mellowed out on employee trickery stuff. You realize these people are losing their jobs don't you. I know if I were losing my job I'd be walking out with this laptop under my shirt.

When I went to my local closing TRU, the game section was pretty bare. But I did notice what looked like two GBA Micro's behind the desk. My first instinct was to go Sam Fisher and stealth grab them and take them to the checkout. But then I figured maybe one of these soon to be unemployed workers may have been saving them for another % off drop and it was for one of their kids or something.

I agree though, anything that was left in the game section would need a 90% off drop to get me to bite on.

went to the TRU in springfield,pa yesterday and its 60-80 % off all stuff now still not many games Im waiting for batan kaitos and gunstar heroes cause they have a bunch left
Lots of polarium DS for $4 at closing TRUs, I doubt if you could find one to pay price like that. No offense.
The newbie got pwned. LoL. You bought some junk game that no one wants and you want full retail price for it.

I want it! It looks kinda fun (not payin that much for it though...)

Yes, I can and do empathize....but if you are losing your job at a minimum wage-type position, then the last thing that you need to be buying is a luxury-type item such as a video game system. Sorry to sound so cold-hearted.

Just to let those with closing TRU's know, I just got back from the Springfield, Ohio store and they had 70% off on everything. They had really nothing left at all as far as video games go. Hopefully the ones that are around you guys drop this low in price, and will have some decent games in stock.

I just went to the Santa Fe, NM store today. Only four days left until closing. There were a lot of games left though. All games there were 60% off there, accesories were 70% off. Picked up Gran Turismo 4 ($20), Psychonauts ($12), Donkey Konga 2 ($14), Nanostray ($12), and Metroid Pinball ($14). The gf picked up a few DS games also, one of the Pac-Man games, Trace Memory and Warioware Touched. They still had many DS games there. Lots of good deals.

I'm going to stop in tommorow just because. There were a few games left about 4 days ago, unless people just bought them because they were cheap.

I also find it hilarious that even at a deep discount only a few people are buying psychonauts. You heartless bastards need to get it to realize what fools you've been.

The TRU's in Commack and Hempstead, NY are both closing in two days. They're at 80% off for everything, but all they have is a couple of crappy GBA, XBOX, and PS2 games. If anyone needs Stranger's Wrath or Gran Turismo 4, they're like less than $10 and both stores have a couple.

North Houston is doing a "tiered" closeout. Starting Yesterday (Thursday) everything in the store was 60%, today 70%, tomorrow 80% and Sunday 90%.

TOday I finally picked up a Drum Master for $15, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for $12 (for the wife), Advent Rising for $8, and Gran Turismo 4 for $15.

The still had a lot of Psychonauts for the Xbox left (looks like I bit early on that one). Several GT4, several Drum Masters, Several copies of TIme Splitters Future Perfect.

To be honest, IMHO, the games have a decent selction left. Most of the rest of the store is just destroyed.

FYI, they moved the games to behind customer service since the closed down the actual R'Zone section.

Here's what I picked up at the TRU in Laurel MD (w/ 80% off)
Psychonauts (XB)- $6
Baten Kaitos (Cube)- $6
Taiko Drum Master (PS2)- $10
Gunstar Heroes (GBA)- $6
Pac Pix (NDS)- $6
Battlebots (GBA) - $2
Texas Hold 'Em (GBA)- $2

The Hold 'Em game netted me a $8.25 trade in at best buy.

Good luck finding anything though; people were basically buying one of every game left.

There was 1 copy of Baten Kaitos left, a few copies of Psychonauts, 1 Taiko Drum Master, a copy of timesplitters future perfect (XB), a few Tiger Woods Golf, Pac Pix, and Sprung for DS, and about 1,000,000 copies of Zathura for PS2. Plus there were plenty of copies of Gunstar Heroes left.

WTF at the Coral Springs TRU? They have no video games left at all now, which I find impossible to believe since they had litterally 20,000 copies of Baten Kaitos and Gunstar Super Heroes 3 days ago. They must of transferred them to another store or something. I really wanted Gunstar to damn.

bridgeton, mo store now 40%- 60% off. Still a good amount of intec accesories, plenty of psp headsets, psychonauts for xbox and medal of honor frontline for xbox left.

80% at Lansing, IL right now. All they had left was Gunstar, Battlebots, Poker, and some other gba games. They had Polarium for DS and Baetin Kaitos for GC, and trivial pursuit for Xbox.

Can anyone pick up a Stranger's Wrath....at this ridiculous discount. Please. Thanks. If not from these TRUs in NY...others.

Saturday is the last day for the Tampa, FL TRU. Might stop by for the heck of it to see if there's anything at all even left. From reading other posts, I'm guessing the last day is 80% off?

When all the K-Marts closed down the last few years, their last day was 80% off, so I don't know if these stores ever do hit 90% off.

Ok i found where they are stashing the majority of games at my TRU, they are behind the huge rack of DVD's left. The only games in the aisles are the GBA/DS games. We have a lot of polarium some pac pix and 2 copies of nanostray thats about it for DS games.

They still have the games in the glass case, they dont seem to be moving.

I should mention we are STILL at 30/50% off, some things are more like strategy guides are 70% off still not worth it @ 4.50 a guide though. Also wasnt able to get any guides to ring up for .01.

Our store is getting a bit bare, still using all the shelves though, my guess is that they are shipping all the good merchandise to other stores.

Saturday as in tommorrow Saturday?

Wichita was 70% off last night, although Sunday is the last day here so I don't know if they will drop to 80% today (Sat), and then 90% Sunday. Luckily I'm off Sunday so I can go as soon as they open, just to see if there is anything left.

I went today as they opened... last day today, everything was at 80%.

I got there at 10:05, 5 minutes after they opened, and some dude had his cart full of AT LEAST 50 copies of Polarium... he must have stormed the gates as soon as they opened. The store was packed full of people grabbing anything they could find.

As for myself, I grabbed:

Polarium - $2 (showed up after a few minutes, guess someone changed their mind)
S.L.A.I - $8 (same with this one... some kind of ps2 robot shooter)
Spartan: Total Warrior - $10 (wow what a surprise)
Gunstar Super Heroes - $6
Baten Kaitos w/ soundtrack - $6

Man, that's pretty good. Mine had....nothing. This is the last day as well. RIP TRU .

Not even Baten Kaitos or Gunstar?

This store had at least 100 copies of each, along with Dragon Booster for DS and some Poker game for GBA. They did have about 60 - 70 copies of Polarium, but like I said, someone snatched those right up.

Arlington Heights, IL is closing tomorrow. They are at 80% off today. They still had some Trace Memory for the DS, Time Splitters 2 Xbox, Baiten Katios and Tony Hawk Underground 2 for the PSP and Gunstar Super Heores for the GBA.
I couldn't find Polarium and they did have a huge stack of those games.

I called K.C. store today and they said they are scheduled to close March 31. The girl said right now they are at 40%-60% off w/some stuff at 70%.

Went to the Parsippany, NJ store at 11am today. They literally had three video games in total left (that awful poker GBA game). Picked one up anyway since it was only a dollar. Oh well.

I guess that means they're out of Psychonauts, then?

I stopped by the Nashville TRU at around 3 PM today and found out that Saturday was their last day. They had almost nothing in their inventory (game, toys, you name it). The manager called that if you stuff the leftovers in one of their bags then they would charge $5 per bag. I looked around some more and left with $5 stilll in my wallet. Depressing.

Last day for Merced was today too...90% off. Virtually nothing left...except GB Micro sleeves for .99 each.

Last day for the one here too. I was there when they opened at 11:00am and there wasn't anything worthwhile left. I should have stayed in bed. :(

just heads up for those of you with closing TRU that have some Polarium games left.

I went to trade in Polarium at Hastings in spokane. I don't know if these prices are nationwide or region specific, but they give $10 cash, or 11.50 store credit. not to bad a deal. especially if you pick it up for $5.

Dropped by the one in Cambridge, Ma. 90% off everything. I picked up Baiten Kaitos and Super Gunstar Hero for $3 each. I saw someone unload a bunch of Xbox games at the register. I didn't even see those. >_

Yeah, I picked up Baten Kaitos and Gunstar on Sunday when it was 80% off. Too bad I worked Monday or I would have gone on Monday like Orochi. But $6 a piece is not bad at all. I can confirm that both the Cambridge, MA and Dorchester, MA locations are closed. Medford, MA still has I believe 7 days left. I drove by on Sunday and their sign said 9 days left and they are at 50-70% off. I'm going to try to pick up Trace Memory and whatever is available and of interest in the final days.

Does anybody know if the Chicago location (89th & LaFayette) has any games left or if it's still opened? I missed the closing at Arliington Hts., IL. Thanks.
