April 5, 2005 - Back in 1995 Aeon Flux debuted as a series of short films on MTV's Liquid Television, the same program that introduced the world to Beavis and Butthead. The strange and provocative cartoon stars a scantily clad female agent named "Aeon Flux" who dies at the conclusion of nearly every episode. The cartoon is set 400 years in the future where nearly all of humanity has been wiped out by a deadly virus. The only survivors have taken refuge in a city protected by a giant glass bubble. The full length episodes only lasted for a single season, but the show's cerebral and often extremely violent themes made it something of a cult classic.

Fans of the series can rejoice because we are currently on the edge of an Aeon Flux resurgence. A major motion picture of the same name is currently in post-production and Majesco has secured the rights to publish Aeon Flux for the Xbox and PlayStation 2. The film stars Charlize Theron as the futuristic deadly agent who seeks to rid the city of Bregna from an evil tyranny. The game is being developed by Terminal Reality, the same studio that worked on the BloodRayne series. Aeon Flux will feature stealth and acrobatic combat elements ripped directly from the cartoon and will tie together the plots of the film and the cartoon

Jesse Sutton, president of Majesco stated about the game: "We are excited to be partnering with MTV and Terminal Reality on such an encompassing project as Aeon Flux. By including the voice talent and likeness of Charlize Theron, we hope to provide consumers with a product that seamlessly fits within the world of Aeon Flux yet offers an interactive component that complements its entertainment counterparts." With this announcement Majesco continues a trend of obtaining publishing rights to interesting and unique intellectual properties like Psychonauts and Advent Rising.

The film is scheduled to be released in fall of 2005 along with the game. IGN will have more information on this title as it becomes available.

This is GREAT news! Ive been an Aeon Flux fan since her start on Liquid TV back on MTV. I was really mad to see the PSone version canceled, brought back, then canceled again.

Also, a DVD collection of the entire Aeon Flux series is also due out sometime this fall...

no kidding! you must be as old as i am then. i used to tape those, but lost them along with all my snl 90-93 tapes. used to throw parties at my house and let liquid tv play on the tv so the party people could trip. i hope that they don't ruin my fond memories of aeon flux. she, and all her genetic duplicates, were kick-ass.

then, didn't the same artist bring out that series of alexander? used to show on adult swim bout 5 years ago.

Yeah, it was called "Reign: The Conquerer" I believe. I think his name was Peter Chung. I still have an Aeon FLux VHS I bought years ago. I think it was a blessing in disguise that the PS One game didn't come out. Today's hardware is better for 3D gaming.

they last showed reign 8 months to a year ago. like 8 times back to back, because they put it on weekday [adultswim].

is the movie really coming out this fall? i heard production had been stopped, possibly forever, because theron hurt herself.

at least, i think that's what i heard. so many female lead action movie nowadays, i could very well have gotten confused (completely not meant as a rip on female-lead action movies). but i'm pretty sure it was aeon flux, because i believe that was the only reason i opened the news story in the first place.

i just hope the game doesn't turn into splinter cell with all the stealth employment entailed.

**edit: and that was the tag-line for reign, too. "from the creators of aeon flux."

He also did a short for the Animatrix.

This game better follow the animation, and not star "the likeness of Charlize"

It's a movie tie-in. What do you think they're going to choose? The fairly obscure MTV series or the newly released film with big stars and a multi-million dollar PR campaign?

'Peter Chung' also did early episodes of the 'Rug Rats' on Nick and a bunch of Pepsi clips.

The game does not look good. Even the screen shots looks bad... nothing like Aeon Flux... thinking another Cat Woman on our hands.
Am I the only one who thought that AE was the worst of Liquid Television?
Yes. Actually I didn't like it much when I first saw it, but the unusual style really grew on me. The full length show was even more fucked up.

I hope all this AE attention means a release of the entire season on dvd- i have the 3 vhs tapes, but tapes have become a hassle just to play- plus the order is completely out of whack so the already confusing story gets more messed up

Production was stopped for around a month. Wizard World has some sneak peak Aeon Flux posters available...check ebay.

In my original posts...
"Also, a DVD collection of the entire Aeon Flux series is also due out sometime this fall..." I expect a 'FREE TICKET TO SEE AEON FLUX THE MOVIE' to be included as well.

I thought you were just guessing on this, there is an actual source that this is happening?

Best source so far...

" Hey, folks! Nostalgic over Liquid Television and Aeon Flux in particular? I come bearing good news! In the course of my usual duties as the resident obsessive Aeon Flux fanatic 'round here, I have read that there will, indeed, be a deluxe DVD edition released later this year to coincide with the live action movie. I got it from Peter Chung, the creator, who is in the process of collecting bonus materials for the discs at the moment. He's agonizing over doing commentary tracks - it'll a delicate balance, talking about the show for a half-hour without actually giving away the meaning ..."

Do they still show this series on MTV? I've heard it be mentioned on this site and magazines, but I've never had the slightest clue about it's story till reading this thread. It sounds interested and I'd like to check it out.

Dude, didn't she used to die in like EVERY episode, practically? I wonder how that's going to translate into the game. Maybe something like Planescape: Torment?

The guy that did Reign is a part of this? Then no thanks, that was one of the most boring anime I've ever seen. I'd say it's the second worst anime I've ever seen.

Aeon Flux died in every episode of the 2-3 shorts. In the actual series, she only 'died' a couple of times. The actual series is much better then the shorts, due to the fact she actually speaks.

MTV (nor any other network) hasn't aired Aeon Flux in atleast 6 years. Maybe MTV will rebroadcast episode close to the movies release?

OMG Charlize as Aeon Flux *pukes*

Once again, it looks like another of my favorite cartoon series is going to get crapped upon.

Why can't they just release more Aeon Flux cartoons...why must they go the potentially crappy live action route???

The only thing i'm looking forward to is having the original cartoons released on DVD...since my VHS ones are probably dead and need replacing.
