Am I the only person that doesn't really care for Nirvana?
I have always disliked the Nirvana being placed on the pedestal of grunge rock, when I think that Pearl Jam was not only right along side them in the creation, but overall a much more talented band, who is still writing great music today.
So true. Pearl Jam are the Beatles/Led Zeppelin/U2 of the 90s (I think they were the biggest rock bands of the 60s, 70s and 80s) and they are still around making better music than they ever made when they were popular...
I can't stand 'em either, I cannot get myself to sit through Smells like Teen whatever, God knows I tried to like 'em but I can't.
well thats why you skip that track (even though Nevermind is one of the best albums ever) and you move onto "in bloom" which is well... a great song. Nirvana is such a great band and I will admit not all of thier songs are great, all of them are at least good, I mean seriously, Rape Me, In Bloom, Come As You Are, Breed, Polly, Drain You, Stay Away, On a Plain, Something In the Way, Been a Son, Aneurysm, About a Girl, Negative Creep, Scentless Apprentice, Heart Shaped Box, dumb, Pennyroyal Tea, All Apologies, School, and You Know Your Right are some of thier good songs, and if you don't like Nirvana you probally haven't heard these songs or you have just heard The Man Who Sold the World (Off thier unplugged cd) one to many times on the radio.

but this is just me, and only my thoughts which are usually meaningless to all, so who cares right?!!? Oh, and I do like rap too! No country though uuuuggghhhhh

Edit: Oh I should also point out that this topic has gotten me to strap on the head phones and listen to the muddy banks cd this morning :) good stuff I tell you!

nirvana was awesome, but so were alot fo bands in that era. I think they may have been over hyped especially since smeels like teen spirit isnt their greatest song.

God did they ever suck...i grew up in that era graduating in '91 and i STILL thought they sucked sour frog ass....what really pissed me off was these kids that worshipped that heroin addict who took the cowards way out of his "problems"......"oh yeah...i have millions of dollars and fans...but my life sucks"...lousy whiner..i saw kid that had a t-shirt with his ugly mug and the words "hero of our generation"...i felt like punching him.....and if he had to off himself why couldnt for the love of God took Courtney Love with him?!!

Nirvana was a really good band, not the greatest.
Some of the greatest bands have had druggies in them But, that doesn't mean there music is any less good.
Like or dislike the music for the music not because someone killed himself or was a druggie.

It's easy to mock him not knowing what he was going through, but as someone who suffers from chronic depression myself, I can tell you that if I had all the gold in Fort Knox I would still be absolutely miserable. It's a chemical thing. It's tragic that he chose to "self-medicate" instead of getting good professional help, because I'm on Zoloft right now and making definite progress towards getting myself out of the slump I've been in for, oh, the last ten years or so. His fans looked up to him because he was an artist in an industry full of salesmen. He was expressing what a lot of us were feeling at the time, which was complete dissatisfaction with ourselves and the society around us. He made all the macho bullshit postering of the popular rock bands that proceeded him obselete, and that made the music industry better.

I like some of their songs, but I was never a big fan. I do remember going to a rock and roll art exhibit in college, and one of the paintings was of Kurt moments after he killed himself. I thought it was an interesting way of pointing out "This is what people are idolizing???". If only we hadn't believed him when he swore he didn't have a gun...
Yeah dude, only they never had a song called "Black Hole Heart." They had a song called "Heart-Shaped Box," and Soundgarden had "Black Hole Sun," but either way you get the dunce cap. :dunce:
I must of not been fully awake when I made that post, so I fixed my error. My bad... even DemoMan makes errors.
