Still really tempted to order the LE, especially if people are reporting broken lamps. If a lot of lamps end up broken, it will make it harder in the future for me to get one, so I feel the need to pounce now.

Edit: And lol at the "3 hours?!" comments. Give me a break.
Edit 2: From Inaba himself:
About to post some important tweets, so please pay attention. It seems someone posted their MGR results screen and that people (mainly in the West) are shocked it says the clear time is 5.5hr. Here's the truth: First of all, cutscenes ARE NOT INCLUDED in that counter.Next: For every chapter you play in the game, it ONLY COUNTS YOUR FASTEST TIME. It doesn't track your total play time.What that means is if you replay a chapter for 10 hours, but you finally clear it in a time of 10 mins. Only 10 mins will be counted. So please don't get fixated on that end screen Clear Time being total game time because it is not. As I said, it is not how long you've had the power on playing MGR, it is a record of your best efforts playing the game. We came up with this clear time counting system as a way to fairly evaluate players. It hasn't changed since Bayonetta. However, I will say it is really disappointing that people try to use a single screen in the game to try and create negative buzz.

Hmm the guys at GS told me to call back in a few days...

I checkout the MGS rising collectors edition guide, and that made me lose interest in the art book lol.

And broken lamps??? Arg hopefully mine doesn't end up that way.

Here ya guys guy. a shot of the plastic, and one without after I took care of the glass. Sadly, the "electric" surge part(a wire that run along the inside was already broken when I got it, but Amazon said not to return the broken glass item and to keep it, but return everything else.

next to your skyrim CE of course...

The lamp is cheaply made. Don't expect it to look good on your desk. It would be best to put in on a shelf so you can't see all the imperfections. It does look nice from a distance. My lamp has imperfect plastic, with a noticeable mark on the front. The inner glass has a knick and when you look close you can see that the glass is smudged on the inside.

The game really is fantastic. I had to restart the game 4 times before I perfectly understood how the countering system wants to me think. You don't really dodge in the game at all. It's all about taking everything head on and parrying every attack that is going to hit you. For as hard as people make it out to be, it really is forgiving. Just don't parry too late. If you think an enemy is about to attack, parry early to read the movement without fear of getting hit. If you think the camera is bad, then stop trying to dodge/fight with ninja run. It is for getting in close and blocking bullets.

By the time you get past the intro level, you should understand how everything works and will feel like a badass when you kill the first group of enemies from the demo.

Got mine today from Amazon - in perfect minty mint condition. Fired up that lamp... so awesome.

I am quite sorry for those that received broken lamps today. Hopefully Konami & Amazon help you guys out as needed.

After all my yapping about the merits of the LE, I wimped out at the last sec and switched my preorder to the standard edition last night.

Reason 1: I saw that the soundtrack (with artbook insert) was available seperately for $14 on Amazon;

Reason 2: I saw that the collector's hard cover book was $20 on Amazon;

Reason 3: I was expecting to score the GS artbook from my local shop (and I did);

Reason 4: BB gave $20 back for the standard edition plus an xtra $10 to price match fry's (not so for the LE);

Reason 5: I was afraid the lamps might break, and with so many other collector components at reasonable prices a la carte, i decided to skip it.

So for $65 I was able to make my own "poor man's" edition. The PM edition. lol.

I will miss the steelbook, but maybe one will sell for $20 or less on Ebay...

For anyone else with the lamp. Is the lighting on the logo on the base entirely blue for you? Mine has the blue tint up until the "ng" at the end where it bleeds to white instead.

I feel bad for the people who got broke lamps (since they are still in stock Amazon should be able to fix you up). I picked mine up at Gamestop today and got the art book too (although I had to ask for it). My lamp works great. Played through that first boss and thought it was pretty incredible (this isn't my type of game so take that with a grain of salt).

Did anyone get the Collectors Edition game guide? Is it any good? Worth getting for $20 at Amazon? Gamestop had one in stock, I should have looked at it...

I had to ask for mine too and the guy looked at me like "dang, he asked for it."

I seen the collector's book up close but it was wrapped. Felt good and comes with like 16 pages of exclusive art and a lithograph (spelling) so I think it's worth it to the collector for $20.

Mine is like that. I assumed it was the style since the logo on the case has Rising in white.

Well, I'm airing out my room right now guys. Why? My lamp has been leaking gas all night. I was showing my LE to my mom today and she smelled gas. Thank god she noticed it, because I was going to leave it boxed.

Should have just inhaled those sweet Raiden gasses, then sued Konami.

this is ome of the reasons why I wimped out...with small kids in the house I didn't know enough about the "plasma" in the lamp to feel comfy having it around where I could enjoy it. Little rascals destroy everything...

It's filled with Neon, which should be harmless so long as it isn't enough to displace the oxygen in the room, which considering the lamp's size, is highly unlikely
so my gamestop had 30+ preorders for metal gear and only received 5 artbooks? was this the same with other stores?
They cut off the promotion at some point. Those were probably only for ones pre-ordered before the promotion cut off.
I had to ask for mine too and the guy looked at me like "dang, he asked for it."
.
same thing happened to me ofcourse... the guy was like "oh ofcourse i forgot" B.S. you didn't forget you were praying I didn't ask for it. Then he told me they only got 5 for their 30+ preorders
They cut off the promotion at some point. Those were probably only for ones pre-ordered before the promotion cut off.
when was it cut off? i preordered 1 week ago and it was still listed on their website.
so my gamestop had 30+ preorders for metal gear and only received 5 artbooks? was this the same with other stores?
mine had 42 pre-orders for the standard edition, 12 for the le (but only 10 le in stock!) and only 15 art books!

So out of 54 preoders only 15 books...
same thing happened to me ofcourse... the guy was like "oh ofcourse i forgot" B.S. you didn't forget you were praying I didn't ask for it. Then he told me they only got 5 for their 30+ preorders
Exactly...

I noticed on Sunday that it wasn't on the website anymore so knew something was up.

They told me the art book was only for the first 5 people to come in the store to pick up their pre-orders. I didn't see that listed in the Terms of Service disclaimer.

I'm tempted to just return my pre-order and buy the game from Amazon instead.
Nobody has a problem with this game having a 4 hour campaign? This looks like a rental game
Exactly why I'm just waiting for a used copy to pop up or a price drop.
Nobody has a problem with this game having a 4 hour campaign? This looks like a rental game
While not having played it, I hear it's longer than 4 hours. I've heard 5-6 from IGN and 8-9 from Polygon. Anyway, Vanquish was roughly in that time frame but holy shit was that one hell of a ride. I played that game for 30 hours easy, platinuming it no less. If platinum games came through with Metal Gear like they did with Vanquish, I've got no problem with that length because it'll likely be replayed many times and enjoyed every time.

Probably not gas. Probably burning plastic. Mine had a similar issue.

Here's my review of the set. Scroll to the bottom of the lamp section to see a photo of the melted plastic on my lamp.

I have emailed Konami and am waiting for support.

I'm repeating myself here, but it's good to know in case you're panicking about your health

Plasma lamps are filled with Neon, if he smelled gas then it was probably just that. It's not harmful or anything since it's a noble gas, unless there's enough of it to displace the oxygen in the room to the point that you can't breathe it (oxygen) in, which isn't possible in this case.

Didn't clarify that the lamp hasn't worked at all since I got it. I opened it today to test it and it had been leaking all night. I had it on for about a minute, so I don't think it burned that quickly. So I'm pretty sure the neon was leaking, because my room was starting to have an odd odor once I had opened it, had just thought new game smell, but it turned out to be sweet, sweet Raiden fumes. I'm in a small room, and it started to smell, but I aired out my room, and everything is good now. I'll just leave my fan on for the next few nights.

Why does this keep popping up every couple pages?

This is a 8-10 hour game period. The clear time doesn't reflect cutscenes, deaths, or cumulative retry time. At this point, it's impossible for anyone to beat this with a total sitdown time of 4 hours.

My clear time was 7:11 with 74 deaths. Actual time spent playing is about 10 hours.

edit: It's also impossible to get all the upgrades in one playthrough.

Be careful, your fan might turn into a version of Metal Gear.

This sounds right - I played for around 3 hours tonight, and the in-game clock showed 1:10 when I quit. I imagine if that clock wasn't there, reviews wouldn't have said anything about the campaign being short.
