F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?
I've never played Eve, but I've been around MMO's long enough to know it's a very good game. If you're into the Galactic Civ/X3: Terran Conflict, or think you'd enjoy a sandbox space type MMO game, then $5 for the complete collection + a month of play is a pretty good deal.
That's the thing that I don't like most about these MMO's - the "pay a (usually monthly) subscription fee so you can keep playing factor."
I like just buying a game - and I can play it whenever I want, offline or online.
I'm not fond of the MMO's "always online" factor, though...b/c you know once a MMO's plug is pulled, your game-rental is now over (see Tabula Rasa and the controversy going on w/ City of Heroes).

P.S. I have no idea how to post to slickdeals. Maybe someone else could? :)
I kinda want to pick this up but have some concerns over just getting started in a game that has been around for such a long time.

I like the sound of how deep and complex the system is, especially with being able to do corporate and industrial career paths. My concerns is at this point there are so many long term players that controll everything it would be near impossible to really do well.

For Eve, its best if you have a friend who will play with you or (best scenario) someone who is already a well established Eve player who will guide you and teach you how to play. Reminds me a lot like DayZ in that players will prey on the noobs and weak if possible. ITs part of the appeal I guess.

Popcap bundle says it requires Origin. Is that a new thing? I don't recall those games requiring Origin in the past.

I already have them on Steam and as mentioned PvZ is going to be free anyway for Halloween so not such a great deal but I'm just curious on the Popcap/Origin thing.

I wonder if people will be able to harass EA reps to activate the Popcap games on Origin now.

I'm planning on getting the EA Pack from Amazon. I already have Mirror's Edge and I've played Bulletstorm. If anyone wants them for $2 a pop please PM me. I know a few have asked for them so the first to PM gets 'em.

Would it be possible for me to get a refund on a game I've already redeemed and played on Steam if it's absolutely unplayable due to horrible optimization?

i5-2500k 3.3Ghz
Radeon HD 6970
16 GB RAM

The Amazing Spiderman constantly drops below 10 FPS on the lowest possible settings, and that's indoors. It's even more brutal outdoors.

The pack mentions it comes with a booster to train faster. I have heard that it can be tough to get going in Eve. If you're interested I'd recommend looking over the new player forums and researching guilds before activating the game. Take a day or two to try to get in a guild will help ya a ton.
That's the thing that I don't like most about these MMO's - the "pay a (usually monthly) subscription fee so you can keep playing factor."
Generally speaking you will find much higher quality gaming with subscription based MMO's over FTP. From my experience FTP MMO's are just plain bad. If you just want to kill some time? Fine, have fun. If you want to immerse yourself in a well made game then you want to pay that subscription. The only exception is Guild Wars, and the jury is still out on their cash shop(Also Guild Wars focuses on PvP).
I like just buying a game - and I can play it whenever I want, offline or online. Fair enough :) There have been some sub-based MMO failures, but to characterize the whole genre by those failures isn't fair. EA is still releasing new content for Ultima Online (which I was playing in 1998). Sub-based MMO's are just as good of a value ($ spent per hour played) as anything else around here.

Furthermore, there's something that most good sub-based MMO's offer that you can't get anywhere else(hint hint Indie Devs). It's the reason I love MMO's - Raiding. Sure, there are lots of games that offer co-op, but there's a big difference between co-op and raiding. It's like the difference between playing catch and playing on a baseball team.

@Serpahym

I'm speaking from a consumer stand-point, of course.

Don't get me wrong -- I understand why these companies charge sub-fees on MMO's: making these (MMO) kind of games can be EXTREMELY expensive and they do have to try to recoup costs REALLY fast, or else they'll go under...and so will the MMO.

I think why Guild Wars series, many Turbine games, and others don't have sub-fees is b/c they can't compete w/ WOW. A LOT of gamers seem to pay that recursive WOW fee ($15 per month), whether they play WOW that month or not! I'm sure gamers don't want to have multiple sub-fees going for all kinds of different MMO's - and designers of other MMO's know this. Also, since many MMO's are copying WOW's formula - no wonder gamers eventually go back to WOW...

I purchased the EA pack (Thanks Tony). Except for Mercenaries 2, everything activated on Origin without issues (I haven't tried contacting support to activate Mercenaries 2)

edit: nvm, didn't even bother to try Bulletstorm with what everyone was saying, worked fine when I put in the code. Merc 2 is a no-go like you said tho.

Bulletstorm worked for me too. I contacted Origin support and they activated Mercenaries 2 for me with no issues at all and within minutes. Great support!

That being said if anyone wants Burnout Paradise for $2, please PM.

Thanks for the deal. Sold Mirror's Edge already too! Just working with EA right now to get Mercenaries 2 added. If anyone wants Bulletstorm for $2 (via Paypal) please let me know! I've played the game on the XBox already and I'm not too interested in owning it for the PC.
Origin CSR is allowing me to activate Bulletstorm and Mercenaries 2 just by giving them the activation keys. The experience is interesting however:
They are trained to be obscenely nice and overly apologetic. They will send you a coupon when you are done too. I've never had a problem with Origin CSR.

I just thought the exchange was funny

Me: Thanks!

EA: There is no need to say thanks.

Me: Ok.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I was thankful when they helped me activate a game and the guy was the same way. No need to say thanks... thank you so much for being a customer, etc. etc. etc.

Translation: EA still wants our $ and actually wants to compete w/ Steam.

Good!

More competition, the better....as long as every digital distributors sticks around or more competitors pop-up, then great. :)

I am willing to sell the Saboteur or Burnout Paradise for $3 / ea, Mirror's Edge $4. Paypal. PM me if you are interested.

And the reason for the prices is that I may want to play the games. So if you want the games for $2/ea, buy the bundle!

Thanks!

Jesus, the Jets suck. Why won't they play Tebow for the garbage time in the 4th since they are down 0-27.

Waste of a perfectly good QB controversy.

I'm watching the Pats/Bills game, at the moment...

I was hopin' they'd give up with Origin, like they did with NBA Elite...damn lol.

Most of you guys know the drill with manual activations, but for the few who do not, I thought it might be helpful to give you guys the guide I posted for the folks on SDs, a lot of which was taken from reports from CAG:

Activation on Origin:

Bulletstorm -- yes. Method: Inputting code normally worked for me, YMMV screenshot of key on My Games List with Amazon, may require multiple attempts. Use this link if your CSR is unaware of manual activation. https://help.ea.com/article/redee...-in-origin

Saboteur -- yes. Method: input activation code.

Burnout Paradise -- yes. Method: input activation code

Mercenaries 2 -- yes. Method: contact CSR, may need to do another screenshot.

Mirror's Edge -- yes. Method: input activation code.

How to do screenshots on Windows & get manual activations for Bulletstorm and Mercenaries 2:

1. Go to your Amazon's game library.

2. Click on Mercenaries 2 and Bulletstorm to have the game keys show.

3. Press ALT and PrtScrn at the same time to copy the image to your clipboard.

4. Go to All Programs-->Accessories-->Paint

5. Press CRT + V to paste the image

6. Save into your My Documents. Suggested file name: "Proof of purchase for Origin representative activation"

7. Contact CSR through Origin-->Origin Help-->Live Chat (it's on the top, left-center)

8. Ask for manual activation of games you purchased through Amazon Download. If they think that these games do not activate, send them a link to this page or their own link referenced above to prove that Origin does activations of these games.

9. Offer to send them the screenshot. Frequently, if they know you are ready to go, they will just take the game codes.

10. If the CSR is clueless, ask to speak to a supervisor or disconnect and get a CSR with a clue.

11. Enjoy your games on Origin :)

Okay, this is really annoying. I live in PA and they recently started charging sales tax at Amazon for my state because we have a few shipping centers here. Now, I understand that for tangible items, but I'm getting taxed now for digital downloads too? That's just ridiculous. Anyway...

I just bought the EA pack but already own 3 of the games so PM me if you want any. Bulletstorm, The Saboteur, and Mercenaries 2. $2 each. (Keys work on Origin only.)

Willing to buy a Mercenaries 2 key from someone trustworthy who will provide me with the screenshots I need to manually activate it. PM me. Thanks SlightlyOffTrack. ;)

Thanks for that post, nategator. =]

The Saints/Packers game is pretty good. Both teams really want to win this one with the Saints needing to stop the bleeding and Packers getting screwed by the replacement refs.

I bought the EA pack and I have an extra Mirror's Edge and Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box keys up for grabs for $2 each, PM me if anyone is interested.

Feel sorry for the Washingtonians because they've been charged tax since the beginning of time on Amazon and STEAM purchases; but it's really no biggie. State taxes go back into your state.

I know where it goes and that's not too reassuring, knowing my state government. :p That's sad because it just encourages people to use international distributors like GMG or GG.

Determining Applicable Sales Tax
Physical Goods
The tax rate applied to your order will generally be the combined state and local rate for the address where your order was shipped. Therefore, the sales tax rate applied to your order may be different for an order shipped to your home address versus an order for the very same items shipped to your work address.

Digital Goods
For sales tax purposes, electronically delivered products (e-books, e-documents, and electronically delivered software) are considered to be shipped to your current credit card billing address.

Hmm, I'm wondering if this is why Amazon seems to charge my CC instead of gift card for digital purchases. This also makes me wonder what if your evil twin (who conveniently lives in a tax free state) were to buy digital purchases for you with a gift card you sent them.

I PM'd tony since I know it hits his outlook and other accounts.

Bottom-line: unless Tony says otherwise, if this deal comes back you may want to pull the trigger quickly. Especially since Battlefield 2 pack hasn't had availability problems so it's probably a demand-driven issue.

Edit: nvm but my keys still unavailable :p

Thank you for this information. I have tried to register Bulletstorm with chat support in the past without luck (multiple times) and with this information they added it without issue
EA has a list of games that activate on Origin: https://help.ea.com/article/origin-code-redemption-faq

Burnout, Mirror's Edge, and Saboteur all are on that list. That means Bulletstorm [GFWL] and Mercenaries 2 do not activate on Origin [maybe they can be by badgering EA Support].

Found this link: https://help.ea.com/article/redeem-your-serial-code-in-origin
Says to contact EA support to have an agent add Bulletstorm to your account.

I would refer agents to that link if they refuse to add Bulletstorm to your account.
Wow, just looked through my Origin account and realized I now have 13 games from EA, only one of which broke the $5/game barrier (ME3 1.5 months after release at 50% off).

Cheaper than renting.

Thanks Tony!

Huh. That's odd. The Bulletstorm key that I got months ago and couldn't redeem on Origin and was refused by an Origin CSR just activated without any problems.

Also, I saw the comment about Bulletstorm activating on Origin and IT WORKS NOW WOOHOO!

I got a CSR to manually add that one way in February or January when Amazon did the $5 for ME1 or ME2 deal.
Going rate is $2.00, just an FYI. I wouldn't offer $3 when you can get it for $2 legit. =P
I would say that $3 for Sab seems to be the present going rate.

If I hadn't already activated my copy, I would have been willing to sell it for $3 but not for $2, personally. I am guessing there are some other folks in the same boat.

Demand, meet supply.

The supply is out there, you're just not waiting long enough. The problem is there's a lot of what I'd call "NEEDITNAO" demand, and more "ISELLFORMORCUZICAN" supply. Don't worry, I'm impatient too, but in this case I'd hold out for $2. ;)

Price is determined by the generosity of the seller and how much the buyer is willing to buy. ;)
