Games that activate on Origin

Per MysterD's suggestion:

Here's the Steam Key Activation Page List.

NOTE: This list is incomplete so if you're unsure you still want to ask in the thread.

I'll be posting this a few times in this thread. I also post this regularly whenever people ask about activation limits with Amazon Game Downloads:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_200205020_times?nodeId=200205020&#times

How many times can I download my games or software?

You can download an unlimited number of times for personal use. To re-download, go to Your Games and Software Library through the "Your Digital Items" link at the top of the screen and click the download button.
Can I download and install to multiple computers?

For video games: Each game manufacturer has a different policy on how many installations are allowed with each product key. If you run out of installations for the product key you originally purchased from Amazon, please contact Customer Service and we will happily provide you with another key at no additional charge. You can install an unlimited number of times for personal use, however additional copies of the game for friends or family must be purchased separately.

No, you will only get DOWII and not Chaos Rising.

should be able to just give the key from amazon to your friend and have him redeem it with steam.

I like how this thread is mostly people asking if a game activates on Steam or talking about how they'd rather wait for Steam or something.

Hey, I'm in the same boat. I don't buy PC games that aren't on Steam.

Still, it's kinda sad for competitors.

The truly bizarre thing is when people hesitate on single player games like The Witcher. Games that gain nothing but DRM when bought through Steam.

Granted I think it's dumb to buy a game pretty much guaranteed to be a Steam Daily Deal before seeing that price, but that's something else entirely.

I just bought The Witcher 2. It being less then $20 made me buy it, even if its not on steam.

When competitors are ready to serve the gamer and not be obstructionist or a pain in the ass *cough* Origin *cough*, I'll be more than happy to give them a try.

It's one thing to want everything in one single library as a matter of organization. It's an entirely different thing to want that as a matter of avoiding hassle from the publisher.

You gain having a single library of games that can be managed from one place.

DRM is a buzz word that means absolutely nothing to me as someone who is *buying* the game, has an always on internet connection, and has no intention to redistribute it.

So yeah, all upside and no downside.

You could always..you know..add the game into your Steam library.

Amen -- especially since TW2 has NO DRM.
Plus, you can always add TW2 as a NON-Steam game to Steam, to gain a few Steam benefits [such as Steam's friends list and ability to take screenshots in-game]

Eh. Sure, it makes sense to not be heavily invested in something with no practical impact. But that's the point isn't it? It's not a problem until it becomes a problem.

Only problem w/ having all your eggs in one basket is....if you get banned from Steam or Steam closed its doors forever, your toast.

If Steam closes forever one day, hope you got all your games download and updated; and you better hope Steam has its DRM checks pulled...
This pretty much goes for ALL products w/ Internet activations, online checks, MP played on a company's servers, MP games lacking LAN support, MMO's that don't get their content turned into SP offline content, etc etc.

I doubt Steam will close anytime soon, but hey - you never know...
PS3 Ultimate MvC3 should be added to the $5 downloads FTW!!!

Thumbs up if you agree!!!
Actually, this is a PC gaming thread.

Hey Tony,
Will Amazon offer Batman Arkham City for PC Download and for the usual 20% off making it $39.99 because only one other place is offering that and I would like to swing my money to you guys for all the good deals on digital downloads?

Hm, Witcher 2 is tempting. I have the first game but not yet played it. Is it worth taking a leap of faith on, having not even played the original to know if i'll like it?
You could always..you know..add the game into your Steam library.
I do that for the few games I can't get through Steam, but those games can't be downloaded and patched through Steam. A lot of these other services are fine, but it's nice to have everything in one place. It's just convenient.

I don't have anything against these other sites. A few months ago I bought Sins of a Solar Empire on Impulse. I realized the path I was going down, and now I try my best to get everything I can on Steam, simply because that's where I already have a substantial library. I don't want 75% of my library on Steam, 5% on Origin, 5% on impulse, 5% on GoG, 5% on Amazon, and 5% on D2D.

Again, these other places are fine to me. It's just that I want my stuff in one place, and Steam does a more than competent job for me and I have no reason to switch.

A deal like Homm VI for $25 on Amazon if fantastic, but I have no reason to believe Steam won't be matching that by the holiday sale.

Does anyone know what kind of DRM the pc download version of Mass Effect 2 has? I know the DVD version just has a disk check which isn't so bad, but I don't know what the download has.

EDIT: meant to say isn't.

Hey headpiece,

Thanks for the question, we don't currently have any announcements to make regarding carrying Batman Arkham City for PC Download.

Sorry I don't have more info for you, there's just none to be had.

Cheers,
Tony

I know that you can't reveal any information, but a liberal use of the winking smiley wouldn't be frowned upon. For example -- "We have no announcements on a Skyrim deal at this time. ;)" If your boss says something about it just tell him that you had dust in your eye.

I think ill save my money for the steam and xbox live sale. At least I can buy games iv'e heard off.
Penguins Arena eye roll...
Has anyone played Nuclear Dawn? It is steamworks and down to $9.99
Oh, damn that's a good price. I was going to wait for 75% off, but I might have to bite. :S

Haha, I'll run the idea by him and let you know what he says, wouldn't hold my breath though :).

Sorry you can't seem to find any games you've heard of before, here's a list of notable titles in the sale I'd be shocked if you hadn't though:

The Witcher 2 - $16 - has not been cheaper
Dungeon Defenders - $7.50 - has not been cheaper
Magicka - $2.49 - lowest price, has been this price elsewhere as well
Amnesia - $4.99 - not sure if this is the cheapest yet on this
Heroes of Might and Magic VI Deluxe - $27.49 - definitely has not been cheaper...this game came out 1 month ago
Tropico 4 - $15.99 - not sure if this is the cheapest
Mount & Blade Warband - $11.99 - pretty sure this is the cheapest this has been
Cryostasis - $6.48 - unsure if this is the cheapest it has been
Driver: San Francisco Deluxe - $27.49 - definitely the cheapest this has been, game came out late September

Hope this helps you find some recognizable titles at a great price in the sale.

As for Penguins Arena, that is part of our casual games offering...which is why it is clearly delineated on the page by a different header and not called out in the OP.
Oh, damn that's a good price. I was going to wait for 75% off, but I might have to bite. :S
Let me know if you do, I'm thinking about picking a few copies up to play with friends and would love to hear what you think about the MP experience.

Cheers,
Tony

That guy is either a troll or a guy who plays nothing less popular than Modern Warfare and Starcraft.

Either way, not worth responding to. These are great deals.

Is there a website that shows price drops on Amazon Digital items like how Steamgamesales keeps track of all the other download sites?

Doubt it, Amazon DD service just recently boomed.

Any word on whether the retail version of Battlefield 3 PC will see a substantial cut in the coming days?

I think the current leader is Walmart with $28.99 on BF, but I've yet to see an online retailer come close to that.

DoWII is still $22 and change, what's up?

Also, sitting on the fence of Nuclear Dawn. Looks interesting, but reviews range from slightly above average to disappointingly low.

Sorry about the DoWII, like I said in the OP the late breaking deals will be pretty fluid. Instead of individual titles i'll post a link to the late breaking deal page.

Cheers,
Tony

I apologize, I worded my question poorly...where have you seen that price advertised, on Black Friday...i'm scouring the internet and don't see it.

Sorry again for the back and forth!
