Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

I don't know why they don't just transition those Bioware DLC over to Origin. Does Origin not have a good system for handling DLC?

I don't think I really own any on there that's not part of a bundle (ie DAO:UE) except for a kajillion Sims packs but those are all in Origin as completely separate entries that you have install one by one.
Well, technically you can go straight through Origin for all of the DLC purchases. You still need to use BW points, but you can get them through Origin as well. I do wish they'd just use real currency, but I'm hoping they make the switch with Inquisition.

Tony,

You've probably mentioned it before if at least obliquely but you could you tell us what publishers you're in contact with regularly for the January EC promotions?  I'd like to come up with some suggestions but don't want too just throw out stuff where the publisher isn't necessarily responsive or not participating. That is EA, 2K and 505 seem to be highly active.  Who are the others… if you can say.

If they are a non-casual vendor and we sell their games they have likely received suggestions from us. I literally go through our catalog product by product and make suggestions for bundles and a la carte offerings (I am usually MIA for a couple of days when doing this).

Cheers,

Tony

Hey everyone,

How are there 50 replies since 1:00AM PST? Eeek.

Also, you know how sometimes I say, "XYZ sale will likely depend on how ABC does"?

505 is pretty jazzed about how Brothers is doing (so thanks), they've decided to move all of their sale stuff up to today:

Takedown: Red Sabre: $6.99

Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death: $7.49

How to Survive: $7.49

I'm also working on a bundle with the following for $12.99 pre-coupon, I'm hoping to get it live today:

Darksiders

Darksiders II + DLC

Alan Wake + DLC (include American Nightmare)

Titan Quest Gold

Supreme Commander+Forged Alliance

Cheers,

Tony
Tony,

Looks great!

Regarding PMs...can we get some kind of official word? Gamefly is having some good sale prices and using the PM function on the site isn't getting a response. Is GF not a site you can PM?

Examples:

XCOM:EW - 14.99

BI - 9.99

I already have both of these and don't care about them specifically, but I'm sure others would like to use their coupons on these. Additionally if a game I do want pops up it'd be nice to know whether there's any point in submitting a PM.

Thanks!

I'm pretty tempted by How to Survive at this price (wish it had cards to offset cost more), but I probably wouldn't get to it for a while.... I picked up Red Sabre because .. $2 (and it has cards)... but what do you all think the chances HtS will be in a bundle within the next year?

ETA - I activated Red Sabre on Steam & it gave me a giftable copy as well.. is this normal?  (same idea as The Ship?)

Tony is seriously the man. I can't thank him enough for all the awesome he does for us and even though I already thanked him personally, I wanted to thank him publicly for all the hard work he does and all the awesome deals/promos/giveaways he does.

So, here is something

The missing letters are the pro gaming team that has players like HuK, iNcontrol, Justin Wong, and Momochi.

So $25 (Pre coupon) for ME2 + 2480? Still really really expensive. Thanks Tony anyway for the bundle.
Pretty sure $25 is the after-coupon price. Yes, it's still expensive, but people in search of Bioware Points deals will bite on anything.

For example: When I wanted to grab Lair of the Shadow Broker, I purchased a $20 Origin gift card from Best Buy while using a $5 Rewards Zone voucher. This made my confused and addled brain think I was getting an actual discount on Bioware Points.

For this current promotion, I actually grabbed $100 worth of Amazon gift cards last weekend during the 5X Points deal. By my math, that means I received $47 worth of future Best Buy credit that I will no longer have to use on Origin Gift Cards, meaning these Bioware Points are practically paying for themselves.

It also partially explains why I failed miserably as an accountant.

I'm just being lazy, but can someone tell me what the final install size is for The Secret World after all updates?  I managed to free up space for Defiance and Infestation, but only 8GB left and my memory tells me that isn't anywhere near enough.

And here is something else

eXceed 2nd
*5X4Z-7PBG5-PWR3X

The missing letter is the first initial of my first name (if you know it) or it is the second initial of my nickname.

Thanks Tony.  Definitely tempted by How To Survive.  Sort of being picky these days since my new computer will be ready soon which will open up a backlog of about two dozen games I couldn't really play before on my dated hunk-of-junk.  If it's any consolation I spent about $500 buying components from Amazon.  Whoever your counterpart is in hardware should be happy~

Marlowe Briggs is a pretty fun, b-movie budget game. It's ridiculously over-the-top, but it knows it's ridiculously over-the-top.  $2.49 for it is a steal.

How to Survive to me feels like Dead Island reimagined as a relatively straight-forward isometric aRPG.  It's fun and Kovac is hilarious, but it'll depend on your tolerance for zombie oversaturation.

Takedown: Red Sabre.  I would avoid like the plague.  $2 isn't bad if you want to satisfy your morbid curiosity, but the dev team are douchebags and the game is worse.  Out of 505's catalogue, I think this one is the only bad egg.

The Massive Edition is 40.2GB. I believe I heard the standard edition is like 30GB?

Tony I know you don't price match gamefly that often but if you would match their current sales I will spend all my coupons this week.

Thanks! I grabbed it. Much appreciated!

Why only 9%?
66% + 9% = 75%

That's great news! I'm glad 505 is responding well to seeing their game sell. More publishers should take note. ;)

In celebration, I am buying Marlow Briggs a day early as well.

That bundle deal is ten kinds of insane. Unfortunately for me, I own all of the games, but it just might make a nice gift for some friends.

I'm pretty tempted by How to Survive at this price (wish it had cards to offset cost more), but I probably wouldn't get to it for a while.... I picked up Red Sabre because .. $1 (and it has cards)... but what do you all think the chances HtS will be in a bundle within the next year?

ETA - I activated Red Sabre on Steam & it gave me a giftable copy as well.. is this normal? (same idea as The Ship?)
How to Survive does have cards. And yes, the second copy of T:RS is normal. It's was 505's apology for how broken the game was at launch.

What's up with the Mass Effect 2 deal? It's not even a deal considering it actually costs $5 more than the actual bundle.

One does not simply avatar quote with his own avatar.
Objection overruled.

I feel some point systems are worse than others due to deliberate obfuscation by making the Points/Dollar ratio not a power of 10, e.g. 800 points for $10 instead of 1000 points for $10.
1200 points costs 70 credits. Credits of course cost 100 coins per 25 credits. And you can buy 80 coins for $5, or save money by buying our monthly coin plan. 170 coins per month for 12 months for $119.99.

How unfortunate that i own everything but darksiders 2 in that bundle (which i'm waiting on a better deal for). It is nice for those who do not have any of them though.

Excellent! I just picked up How to Survive after fighting off the urge to buy it during the Uplay sale. Thanks Tony!

Being a math nerd, here is a math problem to solve to figure out the missing numbers

the * divided by  % equals 2.

They have been in the process of doing just that over the past few months. But they still want you to buy using Bioware points.

Also, whilst I was going through there to tell you which games are now supported for DLC in origin, I note that the cerberus network downloads are finally up on there for ME2 rather than jsut the paid addons so I can delete my backups of the installers for that and save myself a GB of HD. Nice. :)

[edit]

And i forgot to actually say, DA1/2 and ME2/3 can have their DLC delivered via Origin now.

Wooooooooooo dealzzzz!!! Nice work, Tony! This sort of thing is exactly what I have been waiting for. The bundle is such a good deal I am tempted to pick it up despite having unactivated keys for all the games in it! Nice prices on the 505 games too.

Tony,

I know Tony answered this as best he could but I'm still very curious about it...

Goddammit! A trivia question I finally know the answer to and I already own the game!

There is no counterpart to Tony in any other department of Amazon!!! Except Home and Garden, I hear there's a guy there pushing a killer deal on bundles of trowels.

Thanks. I remember it being pretty huge.

Also, How to Survive DOES have cards and I recommend the game highly.
You recommend anything with zombies highly.

Fox (or anyone else who knows for sure)  - I can't find anything definite on whether online co-op storymode was added to HtS.  I see it was supposed to be added in December - trying to get my GF to get it & that is what's holding her back (she won't play a zombie game unless I play it with her).

From what I've read in the forums it hasn't been added yet but is coming soon (hopefully this month). I don't have it installed currently so I can't verify it, but the forums on Steam are usually pretty accurate about this stuff. I think some people were still asking when it would be added a few days ago. Maybe Tony can ask his 505 rep?

Hmmm.  I was trying to figure out why so many people on my Steam friends list already own How To Survive and then I remembered it was on sale through UPlay + coupon code.

Now to decide if I want to use a coupon or wait for the SpoderPredictionBundle.  Spoder probably thinks he will get more free keys from the bundle scenario so that prediction is most likely heavily biased.

Steam has put it a lot of times at $ 7.49
As far as I remember the only time it has ever gotten that low was a glitch price.

Isn't that the only use for comic sans?
I type my death threats in comic sans

Just sayin'.

I think point systems are typically a sham and stupid and I can not understand why they can't just use real money .
Speaking purely from my own perspective, 400 points sounds like a lot less than $5. I don't know why, it just does, and has lead to many less than ideal purchases.

The Massive Edition is 40.2GB. I believe I heard the standard edition is like 30GB?
They should rename the Massive Edition the Extra Massive Edition, because the standard one is certainly pretty massive by itself.

I'm so excited for that bundle if/when it goes up. I got the Alan Wake franchise on Steam during the winter sale, but I'd double dip to get the Darksiders games.
