Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry

Agree. There were a few code drops that were good. Brothers was out of keys for awhile and CAGers came to the rescue with some keys. It will get better.

 
So, nearly half the month is over, and still mostly EA "deals".

Seriously, how the hell can it take so long to get an answer from a developer/publisher to get a sale price?!  Except you just started asking them when the month began, or even later...

Sorry to say, but so far this sale is very disappointing. Last year was MUCH better.

I hoped for many games, that were even on sale during december. Yet none of them showed up till now. Wow

 
Hmm maybe I'm in the minority but I enjoyed the darkness 2 much more. I beat both games but I felt darksiders 2 got pretty stale and uninteresting about a third of the way in, and this is coming from someone who quite liked the first game (man, that ending in the original!)

I never played the first Darkness but I really liked the second one. Of course, I eventually had to tone down the difficulty because I could never find enough cover against light beams and guns, but the campaign was short but intriguing, and I enjoyed the Alice-like juxtaposition between the asylum and regular gameplay. But meh to the ending.
 
I got Darkness 2 during last year's EC and really enjoyed playing through it, it has some unique mechanics and moves quickly. Took me about 8 hours, well worth $3.

If it interests you at all buy it. It's a good brawler, with a layered combat system, skill trees, stat points, up to 4-player net-play, Steam leader-boards, and your choice of 4-different classes to play and level. It keeps pulling out new tricks until the end.

You know what I'd want? What I'd really 'really' want?

(I'll tell you want I want, what I really really want.)

A bundle of all the Borderlands 2 "Packs" (mostly just the various heads and skins)

Maybe also a bundle of the HeadHunter missions that have recently come out. 

Borderlands 2 is one of those games that really frustrates me with how much DLC comes out for it, yet I still want to "collect 'em all", since I enjoy the game so much. So being able to pick up all the "Packs" at a discount would be pretty sweet.

(Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if 2K ends up putting out their own bundle pack eventually)

As much as you're probably right on the money with this, I've noticed that games being significantly dated doesn't hinder them at all from being on the Steam store.

Hell yeah, strike a victory for us earlier adopters, I want this so bad. I hate buying Goty editions and getting screwed by having to repay/lose the base game. Even a nice price on the season pass would be great. Whatever the case, I at least need the base game for my wife to match my base game and I'm not mismatching. Guess I should have done that GMG deal :(
