Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Speaking of Path of Exile, I haven't gotten around to trying it out yet.

Does it feel like a classic, powerhouse open-world ARPG like Titan Quest, Divine Divinity, etc? Or does it feel like an MMO more than anything?

Definitely craving to play the former. I was just going to reinstall one of the games I mentioned, but if Path of Exile is similar... I may give it a shot. Any help?
I played it back in beta... feels like a proper spiritual seccesor to D2.

Diablo 3 kept me going story-wise while Torchlight 2 didn't hold me at all. Does Exile have a solo story worth playing through or are you primarily playing for gameplay?
Kill, loot, repeat. What's your damage, (Heather)?

Still got Path of Exile deals only? :(

BTW, you might not want this, but here goes

R2CDV-MR5KF-1100100001000101110

For the last bit, just do a binary to hex conversion.
Thanks for TESO (regular)!

i didnt realize these types of games even had stories
The first couple of Diablos had some bare bones half arsed story but they actually did put some real effort into the third one I felt like with lots of voice acting narrated journals along the way that tell the story.

I imagine most of the crowd who plays it won't pay attention to it, but it's there if you do. I mean it won't win any awards or anything but it was more than an afterthought this time around.

It all depends on the game. Ones like Torchlight and (like Motoki said) the old Diablos have a flimsy story that's there just to tie things together, more or less. I recall Divine Divinity and Titan Quest having better stories.

I liked Diablo 2's story. There was something about thieves. And, er, a desert. And a jungle. And some other things, too.

Hi CAGers,

Can you guys help me out and put in a price match request to Amazon for the Corsair 2100's?  Currently they are 95.99 on Newegg, but I'd rather buy from Amazon because I've got credits there.

As a thanks, here's a SIMS 3 Key that will probably get lurked  :(

D1 > D3 > D2. D1 nailed the whole atmospheric thing. It was a very dark, gothic game. That was my biggest complaint about 2--there was no real sense to the game as being a creepy descent into hell like the first game had. Much of it was wandering around a bright semi-open world. It just didn't appeal to me at all. Diablo 3 recaptured a lot of that feel even though it also had a lot of surface area. It had other problems, of course, but it nailed it there.

D1 has aged pretty badly, though.

I would agree with the above statements. When I play these kind of games, I really don't think about storyline. I would say its better than the torchlight storylines, maybe on par with D2? but they really are half arsed, and just kind of there.

You definitely play this gameplay and its got a lot of quality. The boss fights are at least not just a button mash. You do have to avoid the big hits, and special abilites, and the char skill customization is ginormous. The passive skill tree has over 1000 abilites, some can be quite game changing too, like use HP instead of mana, or Resistant to specific damage types but you get 1hp.. etc.

Is it a Steam PM?
So they only PM Steam? Well what about my other questions? Does anyone know? Edit: Nevermind It's not worth the bother to download a client just to get a key if it even is a key to begin with.

I don't think there's an official policy on price match. It's just whatever and whenever they feel like it and it seems to only ever be on Steam sales based on lots of past experience. My guess is that is their main competition and they aren't so concerned about losing out on sales to other less popular sites.

As for Ubisoft games, I've only ever seen Amazon sell them as Steam versions, outside of Steam itself of course, and even then it's only sometimes when they explicitly specify a Steam option available. If you buy Ubisoft games anywhere else I can guarantee it will be UPlay or if it's a really old game then probably Tages or some draconian DRM crap like that.

If you're after something like divine divinity then you should keep track of Divinity: Original Sin if you haven't. In Alpha now and in early access, can't see it be much longer until Beta. Not helpful for the here and now but in a few months...

Diablo 2's story was cool. Diablo 3 had a pretty terrible story. Starcrafts was pretty good but by far the best story by for me is the Warcraft 3 and Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne campaigns. Man those are epic.

I'm surprised at people jumping all over for the Civ 5 DLC... you if you actually play Civ 5 a lot there have been numerous sales that'd be tempting, and if you haven't... well the Completed Edition is already out (last week)... so it's just a matter of waiting for the right price glitch, err sale.

Original Sin is *so* damned good!

Ty CAGers, I assumed that if Amazon got enough PM spam they'd make a move since they often PM Newegg. Got em, and soon I'll be able to communicate in-game, yay. Lurve this community.

So a PM to Steams Daily for Castlevania never happened.

Quite disappointed really. So much for using the "See it cheaper?" link. Guess that only works if Tony is around to get it done.

Amazon needs more Tonys :)

I bought a couple Assassin's Creed games on Amazon, and they were Uplay keys. At the time I don't believe there were Steam options, but I insist on Uplay keys for the Assassin's Creed series and most Ubi titles. Not interested in double clients.

I've been keeping an eye on it. Not really interested yet considering there's only 15 or so hours of the game done, but it looks awesome.

The day I use double clients is the day Red Dead Redemption gets a PC port and The Secret World goes on sale for $5.
I meant Fable 2 getting a PC port too. Sorry, I get mixed up.
Also forgot the Bayonetta PC port, too.

EDIT:

And also Gears of War 2, 3, Judgment PC ports.

And GTA5 PC port.

And some more FF games getting PC ports.

And the list goes on.

Just like how the beat goes on.

Best aRPG story (and ranged combat) is Bastion. But it's not really a loot game. I'd actually recommend How to Survive for those looking for a different aRPG experience, the story isn't super deep or anything, but it is entertaining and it's a much different environment than the typical fantasy stuff. It also has really solid controller controls and ranged combat as well (second only to Bastion imo).
