So we're getting new amiibo after all and it's indeed just more Splatoon. Like, I love Splatoon as much as the next guy, even if I felt 3 was marred by horrific matchmaking and bounced off of it over a year ago, but like, if they're gonna keep making amiibo, can they give some other games a little love?

Having said that, I will be buying these and a potential "Final Splatfest" Deep Cut three pack because I'm a loser.

Other games would be nice. Would love a few Nintendo World Championship: NES Edition amiibo like an 8-bit Excite one.

With Splatoon it’s obvious their main customers are the Japanese. They love that game.
My kid still plays it daily and she get matched with Japanese players a lot which causes lag.

Got my order in at Best Buy for her.

No, I know. I just don't understand your reaction to a few new amiibo.

Because I'm a fucking moron and have 2 full sets of these stupid things (one opened and one sealed) plus a full card set. Here I was in 2014 expecting the line to drop dead before it even started because, you know, toys to life was on life support when Nintendo got in and then they kept going for another 11 years.

I was very happily expected a discontinuation of the line announcement snuck in with the Switch 2 announcements, especially since it's been six months since the last release, no announcements and the line has drippled to a crawl.

NOPE. Sure, let's do more third party figures AND put out figures for a 2 year old game. Sure. Why not.

LOL Saw this thread pop up and I'm glad I looked. Back when they launched, I too was going around searching for doubles of each one for display and one to keep sealed. I only got through the early Smash Bros line before I just gave up since it was such a pain in the ass to find them because of all the scalpers. Ultimately, I never ended up opening any of them. They're all sitting in my closet in a box, I think I have maybe a hundred of them? I did buy a few more every now and then if there was a character I liked, like Cloud or Charizard.

Worst part, I'm pretty sure none of them are worth no more than their original retail price. And trying to sell them would probably result in me losing money.

bro back in the day I was working on a numbered Smash collection from the EU. I still have most of like numbers #1 through #45 or something set aside. Importing amiibos from the EU Amazons. But started missing individual ones in the #30's, a couple in the first ten, and was never able to reach completion. International orders got expensive and things went OOS so fast and never came back. I could probably still sell the incomplete collection of them for a decent amount, because the numbered series lineup on the (new-in) box is really cool. But it's just a container of sadness sitting in my basement.

No, there are quite a few worth more than retail, especially sealed. If you sold them, you'd break even at worst. Is it worth your time to sell them though? Probably not.

the older ones are probably for a later series, to keep interest up after people get tired of them
I doubt it, I mean they are making cards too. The CE had figures of Kimberly and Luke as well. Luke is on the main cover of the game so it isn't anything new that they were pushing the new characters for the new game.

Oh yeah, whatever happened to the Amiibo cards' idea?

I only saw Animal Crossing themed Amiibo cards. I have resisted collecting those though.

I figured we would have Amiibo card versions of every Amiibo released by now.

A lot of people who get amiibos get because the figure look good on a shelf. Cards don't look as good displayed. If someone gets them strictly for game purposes, then they're better off just getting knock-off NFC coins off eBay.

Yeah that's what I meant... I had a tracker of all of the ones I had on a laptop, but that laptop got stolen; but last summer I dug out those boxes and checked a few and none of them were worth selling after fees/hassle. I think I have like... at least 70 of them. I need to re-catalog at some point.

Nintendo definitely gave up on the Amiibo card idea. I frequently saw the Animal Crossing ones on clearance so Nintendo must not have liked it. I did enjoy the Mario sports cards more so was sad not to see any for regular Mario games.

amiibo.life is the tracker I use. It's web based and there's images of each figure so I can quickly and easily check what I have when I'm out shopping. There's no price tracking feature, but if you're just looking to track what you have, it's a good site.

Eh... I mean there's ways to track these that'll show you prices these days, but back when it started, I was just keep track of it in excel on my laptop that was stolen. Really wish I had that list online somewhere so I don't have to re-do it but... oh well. Lesson learned.
