Went to Best Buy on Sunday afternoon, saw no wave 2, nicely asked employee to get all of the Zeldas hiding in the back.  Inspected all 6 they had (FYI: only about 3 diddys and 2 macs in the same box) and picked out the best one.

The quality control on Amiibos are really high, I was being nit-picky to the extreme since I could.  Not a single derp-eyed, poorly-painted one in the bunch.  I had to look super-hard to find something wrong with all but the one I chose; had they only had one, it would have been just fine.

Rosalina is $150 on ebay already. When did it go on preorder? I have been watching it like a hawk. Wth did I miss?
I would wager that that story about it already being sold out is causing a lot of people to think it actually went on sale and sold out.

I'm amazed by how much misinformation is going around about these Amiibos from retailers.

I checked Target FB, no where is there a post matching that article. Only posts I see are people asking why it shows out of stock when it was never available for pre order and Target saying that they are trying to update inventory for it and to check back later.

Anyone can technically put a preorder on Ebay, it doesn't necessarily mean they have a preoder at Target, just means they plan on getting a hold of it. And if they don't they'll just cancel the preorder.

Sweet just found a Target close by that has 1 Little Mac left (which they're holding) and a few Zelda. Going to go pick that up now. Wondering if I should get more than one Zelda just to be sure, especially since who knows when Amazon will ship anything.

These pre-sales of store exclusives are in violation of ebay pre-release sales policy.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/pre-sale.html

Ebay states that the seller must be able to ship the product within 30 days of the listings end date.
Well color me pink. Technically that means a LOT of preorders on Ebay are in violation of that policy, because I see plenty of preorders for things that don't come out for months down the line.

I'll try Shulk in store tomorrow. If I can't get him, I'm just gonna be done with Amiibos and cancel my other preorders. Honestly almost hoping for that at this point since it'll save me the headache and these things are a money pit
It's funny. I'm a huge Nintendo fan (guess I got kicked puppy syndrome because I still stick with them for some reason?) but I'm almost ready to just forget this whole amiibo thing too. Went to over 10 stores this weekend starting Friday - any of the stores that had already sold Wave2 were sold out, and the others wouldn't release them or didn't know where they were in the back. Sunday I wasn't able to get out early enough, and by the time I did, the other 5 stores I stopped at were sold out. In one town, apparently the same guy had gone through TRU, Target, and Walmart and cleaned them out of them all (I asked the cashier's if one person or several had picked them up).

These things aren't supposed to be some sort of individually #'d, limited collector's items, they're supposed to be MASS produced figures available to any consumers who want one. it's ridiculous that its THIS tough to find some of these on launch day. I refuse to purchase them from resellers though - just can't support this kind of behavior.

Also, I was worried about having the same packaging for all my collection, but I realize the WFT I picked up in upstate NY has french writing underneath the name that I don't see on my other figures, so I guess even though it was a NorthAmerican figure, it's still going to look like the UK/FR packaging, and since a friend of mine in the UK got me a Villager already, I'll probably just stop stressing and get them over there if this is what its going to be wave after wave.

This sounds sensible. And yeah, nobody knows what's going on w these things it seems. We might be the most informed! Lol.

Trying to drop $80 on Wave 2015 (except Meta Knight b/c I did that separately last week) and the website is being glitchy as hell, won't let me log in..

At this point, if you ain't pre-ordering, you're doing it wrong!

Toys R us only had Zelda so I bought it. I bought little Mac at gamester. Other than those I have yet to see any others. Target said they were expecting Diddy and looked all over for it but did no receive it. Toys R Us said that they were not supposed to be released till the 19th and wondered how I was able to buy Zelda

That's so strange, TRU and gamestop are the only stores near me that put them out. All others seem to be waiting til the 17 or 19th.

I hope there are wave 1 restocks then, but I doubt it. Won't stop me from checking though :)

Wow, had I known villager was that hard to find, I would not have returned the extra one I pre-ordered.  Pre-ordering is definitely the way to go it seems.  Cant gamble on which ones will or will not be hard to find after release day.

I'm gonna laugh when all of these are readily available in 1-2 weeks.

There is a delay in shipments of Wave 2. Calm people. You think Nintendo would just decide to mass produce Zelda and not the other two? Best Buy and Amazon have not even received their supply yet. The official Launch was probably pushed a few days and Target didn't get the memo.

And I honestly don't believe Nintendo isn't going to make any more of these. They're hedging a long term business plan on them, and they can't do that if people can't buy them.

Imagine a mario party where amiibos functioned as your character, or a FE where you could swap characters between 3DS and Wii by loading them onto your amiibo.

None of those ideas would work if no one can buy the figures!
Keep in mind that the figures on the shelf now are part of the Super Smash Brothers series of amiibo figures. It's not far fetched to think when a new game comes out they'll do another series specifically for that game. I'd be willing to bet if a new Fire Emblem came out that utilized amiibo, there would be a Fire Emblem series of amiibo to accompany it. If Marth was to be supported, they would put out a new Marth figure that would work identically to the old one, but would probably be in a new pose with a new base.

Honestly, what's the smarter business move for Nintendo? Re-release the old figure or release a new one in a new pose? If there's a new figure, all the people who bought the old one will buy it again (in addition to folks who missed the old one). If they simply re-release the old one, they're losing out on selling to those who already bought it.

I'm pretty sure that discontinuing amiibo is core to Nintendo's business plan with this line. It's creating a frenzy that otherwise would have never happened. This will likely continue and I strongly don't believe they will re-release any figures.

Hmm... now I've got to decide how much the "collector" in me cares.

Looks like there are more than just language differences on amiibo packaging across regions:

http://www.reddit.com/r/amiibo/comments/2olg50/differences_in_packaging_between_regions/

EU Version - http://cdn.medialib.computerandvideogames.com/screens/dir_3244/image_324451_fit_940.jpg

US Version - http://scene7.targetimg1.com/is/image/Target/16478081?wid=410&hei=410

Looks like they have "Super Smash Bros. Collection" listed there (I wonder what it'll say for NON-Smash Amiibos?) and then the "N0.#" for each amiibo with its name on the right side.

Kinda like their packaging a little bit better honestly... especially for collection purposes cuz they're numbered.

So luigi, Captain falcon, and pit would be available in store the 17 or 19? Will they be available at all in store?
If they are Ima troll with them and grab all of them and hide them through the store, then leave a note saying to find it to those that sell them on ebay.

I don't disagree that they will be re-released, but I believe that it will happen in a 2.0 form. Having the ability to only store 1 game at a time per figure seems like a real short-coming on NIntendo's part. Could have been a calculated plan to begin with, but who knows.

Looking at Skylanders and Infinity, there are tons of peg-warmers. TONS. Retailers might be getting sick of these 'games with toy's and Nintendo is compromising by reducing shelf space for less-favorable characters, keeping the main 'core' in readily supply, and introducing new ones on a regular basis.

Look at how many retailers still have Skylanders Giants, Swap Force, Infinity 1.0 clogging shelves? Nintendo is by far a much more recognizable brand of any Skylanders toys, and I'm sure Mario, Link, Pikachu would be popular then most Disney Infinity figures. Much Villager? Marth? No way. They have their core fans and that's it.

Nintendo has a good idea on stock. It's why there games don't drop to pathetic low prices and they remain high years later. They have brand quality. I don't think they want Amiibos to get into 'junk' status and be cleared out like older Skylanders.

Plus, they can just slap a new paint of coat on them and call them a variant.

The last email that I received about Pit from BBY states that it has a release date of 12-30-14.

There isn't a delay in "shipments". For some stores, there is an ever-changing street date they claim is imposed by Nintendo. Stores have received their stock. I think you're missing the part where many online retailers aren't even allowing some of these figures to be pre-ordered any longer. It's possible they'll receive more at some point, but the initial shipments of at least 2 of the 3 first Wave 2 figures are going to be almost instantly gone (if they aren't gone already). I suspect they'll hit Target/Wal-Mart shelves and not last long.

I think the one save game at a time thing is a directive from Nintendo to developers and not a technical limitation. They wouldn't need to update figures to change this, just developer software, documentation, and their own approval rules.

They are probably waiting on Nintendo to ship them more. 1-2 weeks and this wave of 3 should be everywhere.

Not sure what's going on with the other 3 since some people actually have them. I have two sets pre-ordered on Best Buy so I can wait.

FYI - When I went last night to Target they have 6 Zelda's and 2 Diddy and 2 Little Mac.

The chips inside the figures only hold so much data.

The chips inside the figures only hold so much data.
The data being held by amiibo also isn't very large, just a few variables in most cases. Even with the limited capacity of NFC chips, more than one game could be supported with the current hardware.

So... Anyone know why GS wants to charge me shipping for each Amiibo I'm trying to pre-order instead of one charge for the whole lot?

I've got Wave 3 pre-ordered from Amazon but I though with all the issues I'd switch over to GS, but not if they're going to charge me $25 for shipping...  :wall:

Did anyone else read the rumor about how the Rosalina amiibo talks? Sounds like some sort of ploy to make them more marketable for children.
Pffft, just about everyone knows they come to life and wreck havoc whenever the humans are asleep. In hindsight, it was a terrible idea picking up those 47 Marios. Tiny burnholes in everything...

Wow, what a toy! That must be why it's taking target so long to open up pre-orders. That's a lot of personality to build into each figure. My Wii Fit Trainer is useless, she only dances.

What bugs me the most about this Amiibo situation is that my two favorite characters are Kirby and Game and Watch. Kirby has an awful pose so I haven't bought one yet, and there probably won't even be a Game and Watch one, sure to dimensional issues.

You could actually do something really cool with a G&W one since he's a flat character but yeah he probably wouldn't fit in a package or be in demand by anyone else.
