 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/movies-tv/2959127011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_mov_1_3_last   (Blu Ray)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

To the end, but stock is always hit or miss, so just make sure to keep track of the counter if it appears. Usually appears once it hits below 100 quantity.
Thanks! I'll wait for wave 3 before ordering anything. Even then it may be worth it to wait for the real holiday sale.

Eureka Seven AO Part 1 is $26 at Amazon.. Not bad even if it isn't the LE.

Shakugan no Shana the Movie and Fairy Tail Collection 2 will go on sale tomorrow, with Summer Wars on the 21st.

Tempted on Queen's Blade 3: Rebellion Blu-ray.. but it still seems a little high.. however, this is the lowest I've ever seen it. Any QB fans here? I really liked the first 2 series, but this one has all new characters. Anyone here have an opinion on it?

It is OK. The conclusion is pretty rushed and some of the fetishes get really Narmy, especially when a certain armor is made.

I would love to have Dirty Pair on sale...but it would most likely be those ugly-as-sin Litebox sets instead of the very nice-looking thinpak sets.

It lacks everything that made season 1 and 2 great.

Thinking of getting arakawa under the bridge bundle, but the fact that only one set is premium edition is making me weary. Any thoughts on how good of a deal this is, or if we'll see something better for the 12+ days?

You probably won't see it show up again during this year's sales. I can't think of any time they ran additional sales on the stuff in the presale (since those prices run the whole time).

As for opinions, I've saved it in my cart but there'd have to be little else for me from this sale in order to get me to pull the trigger on it.

This is the only time of year that they have NIS anime on sale,so if you want it now is the time.

Figured I should mention this here, but the GoHastings black Friday ad has leaked. I'm not seeing any any anime, but used manga will be $2.99 each. Hopefully this is both in store and online.

anyone interested in crunchyroll 48 hours all access passes here are three of them.

Any hope that they'll aggregate all these Fairy Tale "collections" into bigger groupings? Kind of hate buying piecemeal.

The collections are already 24 episodes long, how many more do you want?

FUNi released their January and February slates. January just has One Piece, but February has DBZ Season 2, Eva 3.03, Strike Witches S1 and S2 S.A.V.E., the newer Appleseed XIII release, and Jourmungand S1 and S2. There's also a reprice on Ai Yori Aoshi and Princess Jellyfish, while Fruits Basket is getting an Anime Classics release.

I suspect that Funimation will follow their cycle for Fairy Tail for as long as it remains profitable.  In other words, you'll see 4 individual, 12-episode sets released.  Then, while they work on the next 4, you'll see them get packed into two-part collections.

I could see them possibly grouping them into 48-episode sets, but that won't be until after they determine that there's no more money to be had on the other versions.

Considering Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle had a complete collection with 52 episodes and movie included, it's not impossible for Funi to do the same after FT completes its run
Don't forget the 24-episode Blu-ray only and DVD only sets! And the Anime Classics re-release!
Pretty much what DNukem said. The Tsubasa set was well before they started the whole Blu/DVD sets, so if they were going to put more of the Fairy Tails together on blu they would have to release a blu only version, and release the DVD version separately, which is probably not something they plan to do anytime soon. If they were to bundle two collections together as they are now, we are looking at a 16 discs set, per collection, which is probably not something they'd want to do.

Thanks for the insight on Arakawa guys. I'll wait and see what else is on sale before making a decision. Also, I love this thread because all of the knowledge floating around.

Amazon Gold Box for Fairy Tail: Collection Two is up for another 3 and a half hours, or so. The Gold Box price is $20.49.
How many episodes are there? I started watching on Netflix and they list quite a few episodes. I'm not convinced I like it enough to consider buying, but it's close. I am enjoying it so far. Just about any anime I like enough I end up buying anyway. I loved Spice and Wolf and B Gata H Kei, so I ended up buying the Blu-ray's for those.

It's been discontinued for awhile now.

They've been trying to ditch the S2 PE for a couple of years now, so once those are gone.
that's disappointing ive been following the price the last 2 years waiting for it to drop to a price I was comfortable paying D:

Actually, I'm incorrect. They had some bundles of it during last year's, but it sold out pretty quick with the PE bundles, and they replaced it promptly with the ones you see this year, so that was the last of it.

I was thinking of Toradora that's been discontinued for awhile. My mistake. Still discontinued now though for Arakawa S1 PE. :p

The collection sets are 24 episodes if that is what you were asking about, but if you are talking about the series, so far it's at 175, with the second run of the series unannounced when it will start atm, so I can't tell you exactly how many more episodes there will be, but probably a lot.

For those that have region free blu ray players, there's a couple of things over on Amazon UK that I thought I'd mention.  So, allow me to be your british camel (as always, prices show up in cart after VAT has been removed):

Castle of Cagliostro BD/DVD - 10.83 pounds, this is the cheapest it's been on Amazon.

Nisemonogatari pt 2 BD - 12.90 pounds, Preorders for part 2 were listed on11/08.

You'd think Castle would get a US release (Miyazaki + Lupin) but I'm not so sure anymore.  It seems like the US market doesn't really care about Lupin III anymore, and there's plenty of other anime titles Disney would rather have on BD.  I've debated about this since I picked up my player, and finally decided to order it anyway.  Much like Cowboy Bebop, I'd probably buy the US release too so I'm not out much if it does.

Now I just need to wait a few more weeks so they can ship me my copies of Blue Exorcist and Nisemonogatari Pt. 1

To be fair though, Disney sucks at getting Miyazaki titles onto blu in general, so wouldn't necessarily say it's just because it's a Lupin issue, but a Disney blows issue.

What is everyone's opinion on Accel World? I have been considering picking it up for a while now, but I haven't made a decision. From the first handful of episodes that I watched I actually enjoyed it, but I have heard a lot of people say that it really falls off as it goes on? Also, are they planning on continuing the series or is it all said and done?

Roger, you're in the UK (if British camel meant something else... I didn't catch on, lol)? I'm in MD and I got Blue Exorcist in just a week via the UK. But I'll check out Castle of Cagliostro. Thanks to CAG last year I had that free year of Blockbuster DVD rentals (lol) and I finally saw it on DVD thanks to them. Way better than I expected. I'll probably grab this tonight.

I enjoyed the first main arc of Accel World, but the second arc was pretty terrible (aka the second half of the series). Horrible villain coupled with horrible choices by the characters and forcing actions with sheer stupidity in order to make the plot go the way the writer wanted it to. That's not to say that it was the worst thing I have seen (the second half that is) just a huge drop in quality from the first half.

As for continuing the series, I haven't heard anything but it's an ungoing novel series so there is a chance they will adapt more novels into anime form.

I'd already have Blue Exorcist 1, but I placed my order for 1, 2 and Nisemonogatari 1 at the same time to save on shipping costs. I've found they rarely break up an order's shipping once it's been placed. That's also why I'll probably have to wait to get my copy of Scanners, and Castle of Cagliostro until Nisemonogatari 2 gets released :D

The series starts off with a very likable female lead, and introduces quite a few number of likable characters. A lot of criticisms comes from the male lead being a pansy, but that seems fairly typical of anime. I agree with the previous comment that the second half of the series wasn't that great because it had a villain you just hated, but that's also a fairly good thing. You kind of want a villain that's hated.

I enjoyed Accel World a little more than Sword Art Online and wished the writer would create more AW instead of going back and rewriting SAO.

I have to disagree that having a villain you just hate is even remotely a good thing, any villain that you just hate and really feel nothing else for is a terrible villain and very poor writing. The villain should strike up a number of emotions, including hate (but not requiring it), but it should never just be hate. I really can't think of many villains I felt were more poorly written (in a show that was overall decent)

It wasn't just the villain i hated with the arc though, I hated pretty much all of the main casts interactions with the villain as well.
Absolutely the thing that bothered me the most in the arc is the fact that the villain announced his plans like 20 times, and they are in a world where they could record him doing so by willing it... but yet the main character nor any of his friends ever thought it would be a good idea to record it... despite recording other conversations in the same damn arc ><;

As for comparisons to sword art, I haven't watched that one yet, I plan to later this month.

As for more accel world, I too would like to see that, despite my issues with the second half, the cast was decent, and with a better villain and less forced writing a continuation could be a lot of fun.

If you are fat and pathetic, you will empathize with the main character deeply and enjoy his exploits. If not, I cannot recommend you spend time on the series.

Hmm, might stay away from buying the series. I didn't have a problem with the main character really, but I will admit that he did look incredibly goofy.

I got an email from them about 10 days that Nisemonogatari was delayed so they shipped the rest of my order in that batch, Then the day after that, they sent another email informing the delivery date for Nise had moved up. I'm surprised they didn't ship out Blue Exorcist part 1.

My thoughts as well

True. You brought up good points, and I agree with them. I didn't like the villain myself, but I guess I was trying to put a nice spin on it.

I did enjoy the cast of characters and I guess I kind of just ignored the bad writing a bit too much.

The animation was very pretty though :)

I do and don't want RightStuf to have more awesome items up for the current sales.

I do want them for the fact, well, it is anime, duh!  But I don't want them at the same time as I just dropped quite a bit of my anime budget for the Holidays on some figures. Damn me and my kid in the candy store mentality.

You're talking to a guy who has already spent over $1100 on anime alone this month, and the worst stretch of the month has yet to arrive, so don't beat yourself up too much.
