Any Multiplatform Games Better or Totally Different on the Wii?

I own both a PS3 and a Wii. I was wondering if there are any multiplatform games that would be better off owning on the Wii rather than the PS3. Another question I have are there any games worth the double dipping for?

For instance I own Star Wars: Force Unleashed on both the PS3 and Wii because while they have the same story, they are two totally different games. Same goes for Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

Another example is I own the PS2 version of Quantam of Solace because it is a totally different and superior game to the PS3 version.

I don't want this thread to be a flame war about which system is better. I own both and play both frequently and it seems like my time is split equally among both.

Thanks for any future suggestions!

Ghostbusters (better on Wii)
Sonic Unleashed (worse on Wii, although I think reviews concur that they're all bad)
Star Wars: Force Unleashed (was going to say neutral, but then I saw you have both already)
The transformers war for cybertron game is supposed to be different on the wii
It is on Wii - but is terrible. Recommend avoiding the Wii version at all costs. ;)

Sports games are usually different on Wii, not just because of motion controls but also because they tend to focus more on local multi-player and party modes than the HD versions. Sometimes these different modes are very entertaining, and sometimes motion controls make the game more immersive. Sometimes not. These differences might become less pronounced now that Move has appeared. (Tiger Woods has traditionally been excellent on Wii, Madden is hit-and-miss but with significantly different strengths from the HD versions.)

Some games that are sightly changed include Bully, Manhunt 2, The Godfather, and Scarface. [Just realized that Bully isn't on PS3. Sorry.] Not worth double-dipping for, but Wii-specific content and motion controls do make the games feel fresh and different.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is excellent on Wii, although you make a significant trade-off in graphics for pointer controls. If you don't hate analog controls then stick with the PS3 version.

Other than that, not much comes to mind. The reason to own a Wii is the list of exclusive games that simply didn't appear on other consoles. Stuff like Monster Hunter Tri, Boom Blox, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, MadWorld, Little King's Story, House of the Dead, No More Heroes, Muramasa, Rayman Raving Rabbids titles, Red Steel 2, Silent Hill, or the Trauma Team series. Oh yeah... and Nintendo's first-party games.

Ports from other systems tend to be half-hearted or neutered, and usually aren't worth putting high on your want list. That's my experience at least.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is apparently way different on the Wii than the PS3 or 360.

Note: That does not mean it's better. Dear God, that is certainly not the case.

I agree completely with this. I'm pretty sure that, of the ~60 Wii games I have, at least 50 are Wii exclusives. Really the only games I can think of that aren't system exclusives are Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing and Sonic Unleashed. I guess you can add Band Hero, Guitar Hero Metallica, and Green Day Rock Band to the list.

Yeah, I hear ya. Most of my games are Wii-exclusive games and I have a majority of the ones you have mentioned. I played so much Little King's Story last month. It was definitely an easy to pick up and get into game.

Just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing out on something worthwhile when picking up the PS3 version of a multiplatform game.

Worth double-dipping: Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection. The motion control scheme (shake the mote and chuck to nudge the table) is different enough to warrant a purchase. It doesn't have the newer tables of the 360/PS3 versions though.

Better on Wii: Dokapon Kingdom. Slightly better gfx than PS2. Much easier for multiplayer games (You can use classic controller, wiimote, or Gamecube controllers)
Then there is Okami, which is different than the PS2 version. The debate about which is better is still an open question, tho.
The debate is still there, but I think the critics (and overall general consensus) is that the Wii version was better. I thought it was a great game. I didn't play the PS2 version though, since I don't like buying a game for multiple systems.

The new Force Unleashed 2 is different for the Wii, and it's made by the same guys as Ghostbusters

Thanks for the heads up on SWTFU 2. We have it and my son loves it. I assumed it was different again than the other versions, but not in a position to know if it's better or not. Ghostbusters developer is a plus, though.

I really can't think of any. The PS3 and 360 own the wii in terms of online play. Thats not to say I don't like my wii. I love nintendo games a lot. In fact thats the only reason I own a wii (or any other nintendo system).

^ Not just Nintendo games, but all of the exclusives Nintendo manages to bag. They've already been listed, but the reason I love Nintendo is the fact that they get great exclusives and they always do something new.

This is a really old one, but the original Godfather game on Wii was the best version thanks to the motion-controlled executions.

Yeah, that was another game I was pondering about. I have the Wii version (which is great), but are their any advantages to the PS3 version? No trophy support for the game on that PS3 so my interest is not that much, but is the only advantage for it just prettier graphics? I have picked up Godfather 2 recently and it is in my backlog so I may just forget about the original Godfather PS3 version.

I don't think you need to play the PS3 version of The Godfather. The Sixaxis motion controls make it a different (lesser) experience than the Wii version, and the PS3 upgrade in graphics isn't worth it because the game was originally developed for last-gen consoles and simply ported over to PS3 as one of its first-gen games. There are a few new places and missions added to the PS3 versions, but nothing worth rebuying the game.

Nothing significant about the PS3 game makes it worth owning both. I'd even suggest that the Wii version is better - although you know there is a minor graphics hit, it's not that bad since the game was developed last gen anyway.

Also wanted to chime in and say that Resident Evil 4 on Wii is clearly the definitive version of that game. It's technically last gen, and that shows at times... but it's still a better single-player experience than RE5.

Shaun White Snowboarding games on Wii are also a blast if you have the balance board available and a friend taking turns chasing high scores and big air. Can't imagine playing that game any other way.

HAWX2 for the Wii is crazy.

This is an excerpt from a "2010 Picks" article I wrote:

No Focus Group Award – H.A.W.X. 2 (Wii)

While the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of H.A.W.X. 2 played it safe by dipping into the Tom Clancy playbook, the Wii version feels like it was developed by a studio who didn’t feel they had to cater to any one specific audience. Describing it to friends is part of the fun: “So the story is told as if Tom Clancy was an anime writer; you also get to skydive from space; at one point the game gets bored of putting you in jets so by Mission 19 you’re controlling a bird, and it’s not even a hawk, get it?!”

I just want to say this thread is awesome and really informative - maybe the OP could be list the games mentioned in the thread with a brief note about what sets them apart for the Wii? Setting out what makes the Wii versions different, and possibly better, almost seems like its worthy of its own website.

One thing I've noticed is a lot of games get Wii and DS releases and I never know if there is any real difference between the games, and if so, which console to get it on.

For example, does anyone know what the differences are for Batman: The Brave and the Bold are on Wii and DS, and which one is worth the pickup between the two?

For Ivy the Kiwi? - What system do people recommend? Wii or DS? The game seems exactly the same on both, with the main difference being whether you use the DS Stylus or Wii Remote for control. Which gives better control? Which is a better environment for the game, on the big screen TV or in the palm of your hand?

I have it on the Wii. It's mostly going to end up being preference I think.

If a game is out on both the Wii and the DS, I like to pick up the Wii version, unless reviews make it sound way better on the DS.
