Anyone else playing Christmas Nights right now?

I would if I had it. But at least the original NiGHTS is still well worth a play, and probably always will be. :D

It's a shame. Many of these old masterworks will be lost to the ravages of time.... and by the time games are accepted as art by the mainstream, many of the early works will have already been lost.

It's already starting to happen, so much source code has been lost.

That has to be the single dumbest post I've read today. Thanks for the laugh!

Edit: Nevermind, I think I've been misinformed on some of the Saturn's history. But was the launch price really high? That's what I remember hearing.

Its one of my annual traditions! I never quit playing until I've unlocked Sonic. I can't believe there are actually other people that do this too.

All I'm saying is that you can put as many great titles on a console as you want but it's useless if the console costs so much.
The system did LAUNCH at $400, but quickly dropped to $300 to match the PlayStation, and then continued to match Sony's hardware pricing during its life-cycle.

Not to mention the fact that neither Nights nor Christmas Nights came out while the system was selling at $400, and they're certainly super cheap to find now, so the point is moot anyway.

Perhaps you should check yourself and realize that the PSX wasn't exactly cheap either when it came out at $300.
Not to mention you had to flip the system upsidedown in order to get the system working properly after a while. Not the quality construction I expect when I shell out 3 Bills.
At least the Saturn had better reliability than Sony when it 1st came out.

Ah, ok then. My bad, I was pretty misinformed.

Some people don't know this, but if you complete the stage with Sonic (a real pain in the butt, since you have to do all your crystal collecting by foot) you get to fight a new boss....Doctor Robotnik (modeled after one of the bosses in the real Nights game).

Not to mention that X-Mas Nights came out FREE with a copy of Next Generation magazine. A very unselfish guesture on Sega's part.

Sure did!!! Just wish I hadn't sold the darn thing with my 50+ games. I really needed some money at the time, but now I really regret it. I had almost every fighting game for the system, and every Sega game except Panzer Saga.

I picked mine up free at a local mom & pop shop. Best. Freebie. Ever.

Ah, this topic is lovely - Saturn fans unite!

So, since we've turned this into a Saturn memory lane topic, am I the only one who really loved Sega Touring Car Championship? I pop that disc in from time to time just to listen to the soundtrack. Great stuff.

How long is Christmas Nights (as opposed to the original). I was under the impression that it was like, one level or so? Is it really worth it to get it if you have regular Nights?

One of the better games twords the end of the system's cycle. :(
Anyone remember:

Burning Rangers
Astal
Legend of Oasis
ANY Working Designs RPG
Guardian Heroes
Mr. Bones?

Ahh Good times. Truely the end of classic gaming, ended with this system's last breath. Now game developers rely on Fancy graphics and storytelling to sell instead of fleshing out the gameplay which in the end almost always plays 2nd fiddle. :(

Absolutely, for all the unlockable extras, time-sensitive features, and the Christmas remix tunes, etc...
Any difference between the JP-import and the US version? The JP version can seemingly be found for less than $10 on the Bay.
That, I can't tell you...though a good number of Japanese import Saturn games are English friendly.

I need to buy a Saturn. I want my Nights and Clockwork Knight.

Does anyone want to trade a practically new/never used/minty PSOne system in box for a used/NM Saturn with all hook ups? I need to relive the generation I lost to the PSX.

Not I.

I was pissed, I had a subscription to Next Gen magazine when X-mas NiGHTS was released through them, but I didn't get the damn disk. Had to go buy a second copy of the magazine to get my demo.

Guardian Heroes is utterly brilliant. Pity it costs so much to buy these days, otherwise I'd have a copy. I had it when I lived in England, and it's much cheaper to get there, so I'll probably re-buy it when I move back there next year. :)

Never owned a saturn, never will. Hell i don't think i've ever even played a single game off of one.

My game progression went: Atari, NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, XBOX (and picked up the PC games somewhere during SNES/PS1).

So, while i'm not a kid, i'd never heard of Christmas Nights until just this minute. But hey, if you wanna have me over for pizza and beer, i'll give it a spin! :D

Ok but the pizza will be cold and beer will be warm by the time i get to Jax. Plus i require a golden haired midget to wait on me hand and foot everywhere i go. I expect you'll have one waiting?

Did anyone here ever play Iron Storm on the Saturn.

It is still my favorite game of all time. I must have played that game for a few hundred hours and every few years Ill pull it out and play it for another 40 or 50 hours.

In my opinion, the best World War II turn based strategy game ever made.

Im so pissed that Iron Storm 2 was never translated into English by either Working Designs or by Sega. I would still pay $200 for a translated copy of that game today. I would have learned Japanese to play it, but im too lazy.
