I have a somewhat unique situation.

I purchased a PSP online and it broke. The seller had, however, purchased an extended warranty through Gamestop for it. He mailed the slip and unfortunately it has gotten lost in the mail.

The unit was purchased in late October of 2007 with a credit card, so obviously that agency has proof of purchase.

So, what are the potential recourses? My local Gamestop is trying to coerce me into trading it in as broken but I don't plan to fall for that. Can a credit card statement brought into the store result in a reissue of the warranty page?

Are there any other options? Sony's repair is out because the original receipt is likewise lost in the mail stapled to the warranty.

Corporate has transaction logs for a while... maybe a year? I don't think they can provide you with any documentation, but they might be able to okay a warranty replacement with the store.

Hm, so what might I do? The clerk made it sound as if they have no sort of "warranty lookup" feature in their hands on their registers.

I believe you have to goto the store you bought it from. Have someone there call corporate and have them look up your record. I had to do this once when EB/GS merged, they lost my pre-order for WoW:BC. Luckily I had my pre-order receipt and they were able to look it up and re-add it to the system.

Have your local Gamestop call the Help Desk and see if your serial number is registered with an extended warranty. If it isn't, you should call customer service and see if they can help you.

They can call the PRP hotline in their "red book" (not really red anymore but it's still referenced as that) and they just need to get the serial number verified and the transaction info to do the exchange.

Alright here you go, pretty much you will have to know what state they purchased it in. If it was a WaCA state (includes AZ, CA, and 4 others) then the 1st year you MUST go through the manufacturer, and then the second year you go through GS. Now if you aren't in a WaCA state then you can simply take it into GS and get another one. The employee simply needs to call the Customer Service line, and ask the person for a PRP validation. They will then read the serial number in, which is stored into a huge database where they can pull up all of the receipt information and validate the warranty. You might want to know the persons name that it was purchased under, but usually it doesn't matter, and you should be able to just say you bought it off a friend. After they validate it then they can just replace it for you with another new or used system, depending on how it was originally purchased. Another thing to remember is that you have to have the serial number on the bottom of the system. If there is no serial then it doesn't matter, we can't return it and you can't even trade it in broken. Another thing to remember is that GS is getting really strict on warranty replacements and I usually don't even recommend them to customers anymore as they no longer cover misuse (dropping etc), and now only cover manufacturer defects. Let me know what is wrong with it, or even PM me the serial and I will call it in myself if I need to, to get you the proper information on it.
