Just read about the 'VIP' codes for four of the maps on Kotaku.


Not sure how I feel about it. I think Publishers have an issue with Gamestop, but their 'solutions' only punish the player.
 
I think it's a decent solution to a difficult problem for them. I think it would be perfectly fair if they also offered the extra maps as DLC so that people who buy the game used do not entirely miss out on them, and then EA still gets some cash.

Win-Win. People who buy new get free maps, people who buy used can get a cheaper game, but may end up deciding to get the maps they missed out on as DLC.
 
If you think the maps won't be available unless you preorder/buy at GameStop; The extra maps *will* be available to those who don't buy it new -- they just won't be free. It's the price you pay for not buying the game new, plain and simple. I'm not saying I advocate these tactics, but they do make sense in EA/DICE's view if they plan on making money. These bonuses are keeping the developers in the mix of making money, and not just Gamestop's used game market.
 
So when can I officially use these Dr Pepper Codes? I have literally about 30 of em just waiting lol. It's great when I can get people at my wife's work to drink Dr. Pepper for me for just codes.

I think I read the Bad Company 2 Dr. Pepper DLC will be up March 1st somewhere.

As a side note (and a non-Dr Pepper drinker) .. anyone who has extra Bad Company 2 Dr. Pepper DLC codes for sale or trade, keep me in mind. :)
 
While I'm not worried about this affecting Gamestop's sales, I am slightly irked about the trade value of the game I purchased. I usually trade away FPSs when the next great one comes along. This will be made slightly more difficult (less $) when the other party asks about the maps. I'm not saying it doesn't make sense. I'm just saying saying this was a non-issue pre-3/2/10.
 
Hmm. I wonder if the VIP content will only be multiplayer maps or if there will be single-player missions eventually. I might just try and sell my VIP code since I'm only interested in the campaign.

Probably not, but it's something to think about.

Not at Gamestop. They don't care. They will take it in, sell it to someone else, and not tell that person that the game they are buying has 1/3 of it's content locked to them unless they pay an additional $15.

I can see ppl rifling through empty boxes on Gamestop shelves looking for code vouchers. Much like some do with Nintendo games to grab the registration codes for club nintendo.
 
What this VIP crap amounts to is making the game a download game, but sold on disc. You can't really resell it, not the entire thing. The resale value is lower even if you keep the VIP card unused because the next buyer then deals with the same issue - they either get to use the VIP card but lower the value of their game, or they don't use it and don't get to play the VIP bits. They need to lower the MSRP of games if they are going to do this garbage - these are effectively "Games on Demand".
 
wait... gamestop is giving you MORE than just the squad rush game?
I thought you got the maps if you bought the game new?

What are you talking about? You get the whole game. The VIP thing is for DLC only that you can also buy if you don't have the VIP code. So what difference would it make to resale value? Would rather pay for all DLC? Should they should lower the price of MW2 when the $10 DLC content comes out because you have to pay for that too right? Its an incentive for buying it new. Just like the GOW 2 gold guns or any other game that does this. If you don't buy it new that's your choice.

You know, their tactics are working by taking the demo down because I am really jonesing for some Port Valdez right now.

The only thing I can think of is, well, I guess it's a good thing that I work until 11:30pm on Monday night, 'cause I'll get off work just in time to pick up my copy during Gamestop's midnight release.

The BEST thing about that? Only having to work 3 hours until the following Saturday. So whoever gets this game -- you may be seeing a lot of me on BFBC2 all next week.
 
I'm a little upset after looking at the "PC Walkthrough"....It seems like a much better game on the PC than on XBOX Live.

I want 32 player matches. The more the merrier.

The expanded squad selection feature isn't that big of a deal. If you have 4-5 people you like playing with on the 360 then its all good.

I just want the "Oh this is gonna beat Modern Warfare 2" convos. There both gonna be top 3 played Xbox LIVE and PSN games. And I'm def picking this up after playing the beta.
 
I preordered this from amazon, and selected standard shipping. It says est delivery date is march 8-10. Has anyone experienced standard shipping from amazon? Will the delivery date be on or before Friday? Also, I'm really confused on this whole Dr. Pepper thing, do you choose the game you want it for and do you get all of the dlc for one code?

Got release day shipping from Amazon, and I'm pretty sure none of my friends are going to be getting it. Add Opterasis if anyone wants to play.

It does, I think people are just confused.

Only thing gamestop is "offering" is the squad rush mode, and that is only on lockdown for a month, then its available to everyone.
 
Forgot there's a single player mode. I'm looking forward to this game a bit more now. Been a while since I had a single player shooter to play.

Yes! A CAG night for this game would be greatly appreciated. I'm really glad they had a demo out for this so I could get some new friends from CAG that I can play with, so even if it takes a while to get a CAG night we can still get the few people together to play.

Can't wait til tomorrow.
 
Put my preorder back in because I somehow found 64 (!!) dollars in change on my dresser. Not kidding. That money was just going to sit there so I'm pretending I'm getting the game for free. Free plus a 20 dollar gift card is pretty cool.
 
My Gamestop isn't doing a midnight launch. Anybody have any experience just walking into Wal-Mart at midnight and getting new releases?
