I figured that by the time I got home from work this would have already been posted with the list, but it looks like I should have brought the list home with me. Best Buy is putting a ton of slower-moving games on clearance starting Monday Sept. 12th. Prices ranged from .99-9.99, with most being 4.99, and included games for all systems.

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.

Hmmmm...maybe this is some weird corporate YMMV? I asked an employee and he knew nothing of the sale, so I wonder how they would give the games at the "right price."

Mind you, I didn't go crazy on having them check the prices (since there was so much they didn't have), but none of the ones he looked up came up at the sale price in the list.

Obviously, there is SOMETHING to it, since the store shelves were picked pretty well (Lots of holes), so I guess it was all either employee/store pickups/people waiting for the door to open that cleaned them out.

No, the hate comes from the fact that we are Cheap Ass GAMERS, not Cheap Ass Money Launderers. :) That being said, that certainly isn't the worst violations that have been inflicted.
 
Mira Mesa Best Buy in San Diego had barely any of the games listed, while I was there, I talked to 2 other guys with lists and no cigar, only some random $9.99 games but none $4.99 or $.99.

I went to the same ones probably before you because when i went, there were 5 yagers left at the paramus one. The garden state plaza one had a bards tale. Between the paramus and west nyack one i was able to grab:

Yager

I did the trade in because I have other things I have to pick up at EB and more to pay on my XBOX360 stuff. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered since I didn't really want to play anything except for the FF Dawn of Souls (sold out) and Ys (sold out) and I only bought a single copy when there were multiple copies of the game in some instances, Paper Mario being the main one...$10 here then trade in for $15 at EB even without the $5 extra...and I left at least one copy, maybe more on the shelf.

I didn't really get a chance to check, as I was on lunch when I went to pickup my order. Did a quick browse for anything else on the list from memory, but no real search. I didn't see Astroboy or Ys, which were the only two things I was really looking for. I forgot to check for Bard's Tale though.

The Growlanser order was online for instore pickup, so I was in and out in about 8 minutes, even with my walk past the game aisles.
 
I hit BB up right at open, was first customer to hit the section..but apparently not the first to get dibs on it. They already had a table set aside with the discounted games....:( and im pretty certain that some of the employees picked up all the good stuff. Because it was there a few days ago and I doubt all those copies of Y's and Growlancer sold at retail since then :(.

Two other unfortunate people followed in behind me, armed with their printouts and were left with scraps too :(.

so now Suko_32 and I will have to be without our cheap RPG's.

When you buy games for the sole intention of trading them in, you aren't a cheap ass gamer, you're a cheap ass investor.
 
Manalapan, NJ BB had the games separated. At 10am sharp were, with lists, me, 1 other CAG, and a girl sent by her boyfriend. I lucked out and got the Ys, she grabbed the GG, and the other guy got nothing :cry: Slim pickins, 1 each of Bloodrayne 2 and NBA Street. 2 Otogi 2's, and the only Gamecube game they had was a LOTR game. Some other assorted crap but thats all I remember. I assume everything else good is gone by now.
 
He showed me his list that he just printed out from corporate. I could give a rats ass if you believe or not but I got my games and thats all I care about. Word.

Overrated mainly for the fact that those deals are great, but that most poeple aren't finding jack due to:

- their local store didn't have them in the first place
- they got sucked into the giant e-bay recycling machine
- store employees grabbed them
- a store in your state actually has them, but the cost of the gas to go out there would negate any `deal'.

This afternoon, my local store had some limited items (PS2 Polar Express, XB Godzilla: Save the Earth), along with a couple large holes where the $0.99 and $4.99 games were. A little sign for Paper Mario, and not even that for Growlanser or Ys.

Gone are the days of expecting only a few to know of sales such as this. With the exponential growth of the community, people inflated with the greed of get-rich quick schemes (this mainly coming from Fat Wallet), and such information becoming much more available.. the good ole days of expecting to conveniently be able to snag Cheapass good games are now a thing of the past.

I waltzed into the CC sale in 2004 in the evening and got one of everything I wanted. The good ole days are long gone (as much as I hate to say it).. we've gone from a bit of a secret to waging war with fat women from Fat Wallet over copies of Catwoman (maybe she wanted some Wal Mart lingerie or something, and the Ebay funds are her plan of attack).

Well... who knows.. maybe one side effect of this is that Gamestop has more "display" games to claim as new, but that's a totally different thread in itself...

I'd like to know how the hell Bestbuy.com figures out how much tax to charge. They're charging me 9.6% sales tax right now. I don't think there's any county in New York that has that kind of tax. Not that it's a big difference, but it should be 8.25%.
 
My local BB was pretty crappy as far as selection but I was able to get my hands on Paper Mario and Y's. Rang up for $9.99 each. No problems.

I will trade either for a Metal Gear:Twin Snakes and/or an Otogi 2 as no stores in my area have those games.

Went to my local BB to get either Ys, Growlanser, Paper Mario 2, or Silent Hill 4, which they didn't have to begin with according to a guy a know that works there, but they had pretty much everything else.

One of the things I snagged was a Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits, but I'm willing to trade if someone needs it. It'd just end up collecting dust on my shelf if I keep it. Just let me know what you're willing to offer if interested.
 
I just got off the phone with the Westland, MI store (as I have said: I LOVE that store's employees, they just don't have the best selection) and I asked him if he had Silent Hill 4 for the PS2 in stock. (I've been waiting for SH4 to go down for a while now.) He said, "The $4.99 one? No, they're long gone - we were cleaned out early." I asked him about the sale and he confirmed that "This is a sale, but it dumb, because most of the stores barely had any of the items in stock." When I asked about the Southfield store employee not knowing about the sale, he just re-cornfirmed the sale and that that employee must not have known what he was talking about. (I didn't ask about items ringing up at higher prices, though.)

I think it is interesting to note that even he lamented about the lack of stock availablity. When he refered to "most stores," I'm not sure if he just meant the local Detroit area stores or nation-wide. ::shrugs::

When I went today at few hours ago to the N. Attleboro, MA, store, the only thing they had that was really worth it was Future Tactics for $0.99. All the other selections were shit (Narc for $9.99, not $4.99). I bought one copy of FT, and there were a few left, dunno if there are any left now though.
 
I was at the Chino Hills, CA Best Buy as the doors opened. They had only a handful of titles, but all I got was "Otogi 2".

They still had a few copies of Grand Theft Auto Advance, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (NGC), Jeopardy! (PS2), Intellivision Lives (NGC), Zoids (GBA), Bard's Tale (Xbox), and Spyro (Xbox).

The Montclair, CA was completely wiped out of everything except Future Tactics which rang up as $9.99.

Like everyone else, I mainly just wanted Growlanser Generations and Ys, but no such luck.
 
A buddy of mine went to BB when they opened and all he left with was one copy of Paper Mario, im sure some Fat Wallet ass holes went the other day and bought out all the clearance games before they actually dropped. The local BB did have plenty of copies of Astro Boy, Otogi 2, Growlanser, and Y's too. Which are the games I wanted the most. I think he hit up another BB, but I haven't talked to him today so there is a possibility of a few more titles, but chances are slim. I would have been extact with a copy of just Astro Boy on the GBA too. :(

Went to my Best Buy..they didnt have anything..pretty funny though I talked to 2 guys there..one said someone came in and cleaned out $300 dollars worth of clearnce iteams, another one said I didn't know what I was talking about..hmm..I guess they didnt have anything..gonna try to call a Best Buy about 15 minutes away to see if they have anything or know anything..
 
my best buy is messed up! the workers were there at 10am, taking the games off the shelves so nobody could buy the games! I got there and all the games were missing...even though i went yesterday and saw the games on the shelves!
 
Went to Best Buy this morning. While I was there, I spotted a woman in her twenties looking through games and chatting on her cell phone, and another guy with a printed list showed up right before I left. There wasn't much at my store, but I did find something I wanted:

Grand Theft Auto Advance (GBA) - $9.99

I didn't leave the store empty-handed, so I'm happy.

I got that Jeopardy game for 5 at CC last year, one of the few games I could get my wife and mother to both play...

No luck with me on the Y's, MMX Command Mission, and Growlanser... I have a sealed Baten Kaitos for trade if anyone has any of the others

I went to my local Best Buy today and some lady said that people were in all day, asking about a sale, but they hadn't marked anything down today. Not that it matters, because I didn't see, like, anything. My Best Buy sucks.

I'm glad I ordered FFI&II: Dawn of Souls for in-store pickup, as there was no other copies left. I didn't see any other of the cleareance items. They also had Taiko Drum Master, but it was partly opened. I used a GGC and grabbed Tales of Symphonia, instead.

On the way home, I stopped in a nearby Target, looking for a good deal. I found a new Nintendo DS case for $4.99. I scanned it, and it was only $2.48! Picked that up, as I needed a case for the system.
