This might be a long topic, which site seems to have the best reviews for video games? Not scores, but actually text reviews? Thanks. Just overall opinions would be cool.

I like Gamespy the best, especially for games with online modes, since they wait and test them in real world conditions before releasing their final reviews.

Gamespot.com does some pretty decent writing, and I love how their video game reviews are actually worth watching.

They have the best writing, IMO.[/QUOTE]

I used to be a big Gamespot fan, until I realized how factually inaccurate some of their reviews can be. I've seen out and out falsehoods in them - things that a quick read of the game's manual can clarify. I've even called them out on it, but I have never gotten a response.

I just go to metacritic.com now and look at all the reviews.

I generally go with gamesranking too, I just think that it's better to get the general opinion, overall I tend to avoid any real single site. I guess I like IGN's Wii guys the best as they seem to go 100% through games before they decide to make a review.

But I enjoy www.thewiire.com the best, and most speciality sites that often really care about the games, but are both fair and balanced.

For one specific review, and not an aggregate review site, I'll go with Gamespot. IGN used to be too 'easy', now they're trying to overcompensate to regain cred (and the reviews are too long-winded and sometimes poorly-written), 1up seems to overrate a handful of games and then underrate even more, and everyone beneath the 'Big Three' are either too hit-and-miss or specialized as a go-to review source.

Regardless, though, beware the early reviews, be they in HTML or print. It's a shady business, for the most unnecessary observation of the week.

Ya... Amazon has like 1 or 2 good reviews for each item, but mostly crappy user reviews.

I go with Gamerankings as well. Before I buy a game I'll check both Gamespot and IGN, and find a lower rating on Gamerankings to hear a better critique.

Thanks guys. I am not looking for gamerankings.com, because I want a single site (in your opinion) with text reviews.

You beat me to it!

It's far better than the "We can't give a name brand game less than a 7 out of 10 because all the fan boys will stop reading our articles." thing going on with all the game review sites and the fact that most review sites seem to think that reviews need to be a page or more in length.

I check gamespot first.

I used to go to IGN and like someone above me said. The reviews can be way to long winded. I don't need a 6 page review for Over G fighters. The game only has 3 modes.

Gamespots review are clean, and somewhat to the point. Their video reviews are the best IMO even though you asked for written.
