Bestbuy.com / Dealtree EZtrade-in programs (trade games for BB gift cards or PayPal)

So I happened to find a list of their games that they are giving some good money on, I guess to compete with Gamestop. Here is a copy of the list. I dont know if you have to trade in more than 1 game to get the deal, but thought others would be able to chime in with their experience. Of note is the hot shots golf trade in for PS3 (if you were able to get it from the sears clearance).

Added by Io: Note that you can also trade games in using this site:
http://ebay.eztradein.com/ebay/
which is handled by the same processor (Dealtree) used for the Best Buy program. In this case, though, you can get PayPal payments instead of Best Buy gift cards. The trade-in values and processing methods seem to be exactly the same.

-----
I tried looking for the $20 and $30 trade in value games but came up empty, if you want to provide the link so I can add it here, let me know via PM.

UPDATED: since it keeps getting asked

1. Can I take them to a physical store?
Games need to be mailed in. If you try to do an instore trade from the website it will redirect you to mailing it in.

2. How many days do I have to mail it in?
30 days from initiating the trade. Mail it in ASAP as the processing time until you get your money differs and could be a wait.

3. Are trade in quotes locked in or do they get valued at time of processing?
Get your games in fast enough and you will not have to worry about this. But the majority believe that you are locked in as long as it gets there before the 30 days are up.

4. Do games have to be complete?
Case, Manual, and working game are your only options. So yes, full credit if you have everything. But we are not too sure on how they determine scratches affecting playability (if they physically test the game during processing). Just clean all smudges and fingerprints prior to mailing, and if you have deep scratches it is up to you to chance them saying the game does not work.

5. What happens if they say the game is worth less than trade in quote?
You can either accept their valuation or PAY to have your game shipped back to you.

i never got any of those notices but the only mass send i had was 10 lbps a week after this tradein started. Nice job io to get them to fess up and start tcob. takn care of business. lol
oh and they better take those blurs, i sent 2 in and that would be bs if they said it was alternate upc stuff, how would we even know. it says blur, so i sent in blur. odd.
i guess we/i will find out soon tho as it says my order went thru the processing at MD yesterday morning so I should get verified soon enough...

It actually says the upc right below the name.

Shrike - i actually think that was the most civil discussion we've ever had on it. Unless there was subsequent stuff after I went to bed.

I got verified for the three games I sent in 6/1, still no money yet.

Weirdly, they also verified me for two games as part of the Best Buy promotion. Initially, I was going to send two games and get a BB gift card. But then I saw that you could get PayPal, and in the end sent three games as part of the PayPal promotion.

So....am I about to get double credit for two of my games? Because if so, I might have to use this service again :).

Maybe.

Check the verified amount, it should say 0.00 for the ones not sent.

Am I missing something? On the website, it says ship to:

BestBuy Trade-In
#number
1249 West 7th Street
Cincinnati, OH 45203

but on the printed UPS shipping label it gives the

Hunt Valley MD address

Was this a recent change or was it always like this.

Nope, the right values are there.

How dare you try to ruin my hopes. :nottalking:

No, there were two posts after your last one - nothing too bad. One of the early posts was reported, though, so that draws the attention of other mods. This is the second time in about a week that Shrike has deleted a discussion I was involved with ;). Anyway, I see why he deleted the original post and then I guess the rest had to follow since all the discussion started from there.

I think this is an indication that they lost the actual games and just went ahead and verified everything that would have been received at that time (whether it was included in the box or not) - though that still doesn't explain your BB verification if you never even sent that.

As I said yesterday, my "dead zone" package (in which I did include both of my estimates games, so no "bonus" for me ;)) has been verified, but now I'm waiting on one they got last week - it has now been a week since receipt for that one . And then I have my alternate-UPC game which was apparently delivered about an hour ago.

Hopefully he started by deleting the posts which I characterize as outrageous greed. I can only hope. On a more relevant note, I'm surprised so many ppl are hung up on shipping and packing issues. I simply use old paper bags to double wrap whatever I'm sending and drop the item in the post office drop box. That way I never have to deal with self righteous mail employees who just enjoy ruining your day. My last package was bulky and I've never had a problem. I suspect the degree of attention payed to a package once it's in a drop box is far less than a package delivered for the scrutiny of a clerk. And who has time to actually stand in line in the 1st place.

^ Actually, it was your profanity-filled post that got reported ;).

I mentioned this a few weeks ago. I think the address changed when they "dropped" video games from the front page (though of course you can still submit them if you go to the right URL). I'm guessing this is the address for some other type of trade-in (electronics or something) and it just shows on the front now instead of the video game address. But as you noticed the actual label is the same as before.

Heh - just got an email from Dealtree with a list of games that I cannot send in any more copies of.

The interesting part is this:
If these items are sent, they will be disposed of upon receipt. Any games that have been shipped or received according to USPS tracking will receive the values originally quoted.

So they are handling it as I originally thought they should - they are pretty much accepting anything that was submitted prior to the policy change. While they tried to scare off (successfully, I think so kudos to them) people from sending in too many multiples from before the policy change by saying they had to be shipped before the change happened (on the 3rd of June) it actually looks like they let it go for a few more weeks.

The list they sent me included stuff I had never sent in more than 1 of, though - and one of those I sent in a second copy that just got there today. I'm assuming they will accept that, but we'll see. They did cancel a few leftover submissions that I hadn't done yet myself but they were for old SMB and TSM ones that were paired with other games that I was going to send but never did so that's OK. I had no intention of sending any more SMB or TSM anyway. Luckily they didn't cancel the one for the game I just sent in, though (which was only my second copy of that particular game). It looks like I had 4 total estimates for it but never intended to send more than 2. I just had to rearrange some pairings so I made another submission for it. This is why I was canceling stuff earlier - it made my list look much more reasonable once they actually reviewed it.
I wonder if I'm gonna get that email too. The most copies i ever sent in of something was 4 or 5.
Well, like I said, they listed a few games where I had merely gotten estimates for 4 copies and never even sent in more than 1 or 2. The only things I sent in more than 4 of were Beatles Rock Band 360 - and that was months ago (though they listed it), and of course SMB and TSM. A couple of others on the list I sent 3 or 4 in but they are long gone off my estimates (that is, I have no currently unfulfilled estimates for them).

It bugs me a bit that the email actually says "Our records indicate we have already received several copies of the following games, from you.". For one of the games on the subsequent list, they had gotten exactly one copy from me (though I did have estimates for more than 3 total). On another they had gotten 2 and the 3rd was one they received last week but haven't verified yet. So I think they went off the estimates and not the actual received copies.

They did cancel a stray SMB and TSM estimate that I hadn't gotten around to canceling yet myself (because they were paired with things that I was still considering sending in and I didn't want them to accidentally cancel the other game). But they left the two games I just sent in alone so that's a relief - I don't have to argue with them over trade-ins that no longer appear on my account!

But I'll be on them about those two if they "dispose" of them since neither was over the new limit (that wasn't in place when I submitted them anyway).

I noticed on the Eztradein site that my $ value always stayed at $0, before verification, after verification, and after payment. Is it supposed to change? And even though I've been paid it still says payment pending. I guess they really only have 3 employees. 1 to answer questions, 1 to open the games, and 1 to update the site. Or maybe they make one guy do all of that.
I'm curious - did all the people who got this sort of notice submit huge single trade estimates with several of the same game in one package? I never did more than 2 of anything at once and even though I was over the limit in total on a few games, they were all spread out. I never got this notice and I still have a SMB and TSM estimate that I have yet to cancel. But I'm guessing that the huge single-order submissions caught their attention which sort of vindiactes someone (I forget who, J7 maybe?) who said that might be a bad idea.
Ya I said it for good or bad.

Looks like it took them a bit longer to find you. :applause:

After they saw those they lost their minds and thought everything sent at that time was a SMB game. Or a worker went postal from seeing the same thing so many times and he ran off with the packages.

Another bonehead decision by BBV. I'm still waiting for BBV to hire some asians to give massages next to the foreign section. Do they even have a foreign section anymore?

I forgot to mention this but last week I did get my "non-standard" UPC version of a game verified. So it appears they are not as strict about UPC codes as NorAm/Amazon. This was for a Best Buy-exclusive version with a different UPC (but it wasn't for Blur).

I just have 2 more games to get verified (that got there on Thursday I think) and then I'm all done except for waiting for payment.
my 2 xbox blurs were verified
How'd they do that so quickly!? You couldn't have mailed them before the beginning of the week, right? My two that haven't been verified yet I mailed on Monday and they got on Thurs but then never verify stuff that quickly, so I wasn't even expecting to look for it till next week. The 3 games I got verified last week I had mailed in the week before.

So let's see, my items got there June 1, and it's now June 28. Okay, they had a dead zone, 3-5 days to verify now that it's FINALLY been verified. That was June 23. 5 Days Later would be today. If it's not here by the end of the week, I'm calling to complain. And not some CS crappy rep either, whoever is in charge of this brain-dead operation. Someone at this place obviously doesn't know how to do their job correctly, and the fact that I have to wait over a month to be paid is absurd.

Please post when you get your money if your package arrived 6/1 (or around then).

I don't think anyone has been paid (via PayPal, anyway) since that last big payment on the 22nd. Since they didn't verify all those dead zone games till after that I would expect to wait a bit for a subsequent payment. I'd definitely give it more than 5 days. It took 10-14 days for the last set of verified games to get paid.

I just got my paypal payment for my 2 games from the "dead zone". That's a relief.

I think I am officially done with these guys now. It was fun while it lasted!

 I just saw this thread pop up on my subbed list and as I was clicking on it I also got several emails concerning payments from Dealtree.

I even got paid for two games that just got verified this morning (at the usual 2am update). That means I am completely up to date and paid up unless I decide to send in my copy of Blur.

I know how much pain everyone suffered through this month, but I can't help but raise an eyebrow with everyone's "I'm done" stuff. Granted, this company is poorly run, and I despise them and will only use them as a last resort (gazelle > amz/others > dealtree). But for everyone who swears they're done, can you honestly say that when something like a "turn $5 x3 > $75" promo comes along, they aren't going to take advantage of it?

Well, if people could take advantage of that promo elsewhere, I doubt they would.

I doubt I would especially to the degree I tried with the paypal version of this company, just because it would be solely in best buy gift certificates.... and... to be frank (although my name is not frank) I have little-to-no-use for best buy gift cards in bulk.

At best, I would submit my three and be done.

got my 2 ps3 blurs verified and then payment processed on my 3 legoindy 2's, then i checked the mail and the gift card for the 3 legoindy 2's was already there. now that's some fast service from payment pending to my hands... ;)

I finally got my last BB Gift Card in the Mail Tuesday, Literally a week after they were listed as payment pending, and a little over 2 weeks after the games were verified, which is a week after they were delivered. 3.5-4 week turnaround from quote/ship to gift card payment - which I think is kinda unacceptable, but can't complain.

Done with DealTree, finally got paid for my lost zone package after a number of emails. It was pretty good while it lasted. If they ever improve their TIV's back to pre-limit levels I'll check them out.

WOW that could change things if they took them B&M. Not in the "sell them 50 SMB" way but in the "beat 3 copies" way, if they do it on a per-store basis. But I bet anything that the instore version would be BB GiftCard only. I highly doubt they'd give you cash. :/

It's another dead zone!

"Matt Smith,
Thank you for using the Best Buy trade-in process. We have sent the gift card via U.S. Postal Service to the address below."

Hahahaha, I just got my $59 payment in PayPal a few days ago, and now I'm getting $39 in BB giftcards (I initially planned to send two games to BB, then instead sent 3 to PayPal).

So I just made $39 in BB credit. What to buy, what to buy...

Long time lurker and first time poster so I understand my credibility is probably suspect. Nevertheless, I wanted to send out this warning (which I have also posted on resseller ratings and pissedconsumer.com along with a complaint to the Better Business Bureau). My gift card was most likely stolen in the mail and Dealtree is refusing to reissue the gift card because it was redeemed (this was after several attempts at communicating with the company that failed - I assume they were blowing me off until recently). Everyone should be aware that they have no insurance for the gift cards they send out nor do they keep tracking information. If your gift card is lost in the mail then you are screwed - this company does absolutely nothing to assure your gift card is sent to the correct address, the correct person, etc and will instead blame you. I know how to proceed legally (its only a $129 gift card but now its the principal of the thing) so I'm not here asking for help. This is just a warning - stick to getting paypal and avoid them sending stuff to you (there are numerous complaints online similar to mine and probably throughout this thread, which I have not read in its entirety).

I also find it kind of irnonic that I made sure to track my package to them and the merchant in the situation takes no responsibility for what it sends.

That sucks but look at it from their side.

Some guy says a GC that was sent to him is lost in the mail, yet it was redeemed. They aren't in the business of sending out free money to people and there are wayyyyyyy too many people who would use it and say it was stolen.

I hope you get a new one, and you should. But it's just them trying to prevent fraud.

Yes, they are trying to prevent fraud but aren't there better ways to do that then blame the customer? For example: tracking numbers or simply insuring the packages. I feel like my gift card was small but imagine expecting a $500 gift card with zero assurances it will be delivered. I do not know of any other company that doesn't provide some sort of assurances. In fact, we had a package stolen outside our door and the company (Bed Bath and Beyond) immediately mailed a second package no questions asked.

If it was stolen how is it THEIR FAULT? you're an idiot for reporting something so trivial to the BBB. Go back to lurking. If you don't want something to be stolen put a lock on your mailbox.

in other news, despite low TIVs i will continue to use DealTree until they screw me over somehow. So the less of you who use it, the better for those of us who do

OK, this is why I lurk as there is no point in dealing with people like you. I do have a lock on my mailbox and I do not know how it was stolen or if it was just never sent to me. I simply wrote a warning to let people know if you have a greedy mailman or simply an incompetent one who may put mail in the wrong mailbox then be careful. Most companies insure packages when they send them and provide tracking numbers (especially when their value goes over $100). It is not necessarily their fault but they could have handled the transaction better and in a way that protects its customers. Either way, I will be doing more than filing with the BBB and will pursue legal measures. It is not trivial when you are accused of theft and fraud when you're a consumer just getting screwed.

By people like me you mean logical/reasonable people who approach problems with an open mind and without an immediate psychologically-constructed need to point the finger at everyone except themselves?

Anyway if you're gonna pursue legal measures do it with the post office. I guarantee you DealTree is not gonna do anything (mostly because what can they do exactly except say "Sorry you got jacked") nor would any other company. I don't doubt you got your GC stolen but seriously, try approaching this from every angle before you take drastic measures.

Can't retailers track where the gift cards were used (or possibly by whom), or provide you with some clue as to how it was used? While I don't think Dealtree should be held accountable for your loss, you should at least be able to seek some assistance from someone.

My claim against the post office sucks and you'd know that if you're logical and reasonable. My claims in small claims court against Dealtree will fare far better if it gets to that but that is more effort than I'd like to exert. My far better claim? The BBB - because their purpose is to help consumers like me. I don't see how any of my thinking is illogical or unreasonable. In fact, its the least drastic measure I can take other than doing nothing, which I have no intention on doing.

Anyway, how long does it take for gift cards to usually arrive?
