Eh, we're talking about Gamestop.com, not Amazon.
Here's the latest email from them:
Wow, they're throwing the vendor under the bus to say that they're the ones who are "making" them advertise a pre-order item they may not have. :wall:

Though, it does say they're pre-packaged with the game, so that'll be interesting to see who gets it and who doesn't.
Thats because the publisher DOES pay for them to advertise the pre-order bonus, Thus that meens if they pulled it down the add that meens that they are violating the marketing contract... nasty stuff .. and lame stuff i know :(

You obviously didn't try to get the pretty limited Valkyria Chronicles artbook back at release.

I didn't bother online because the were offering the pre-order bonus in store. At least then I can hold someone accountable when I don't receive my pre-order bonus.

Yeah, I just figured that Gamestop would have a better system than Amazon because Amazon's arbitrary distribution can't really get any worse.

Eh, I guess if by accountable you mean you want someone to look at you and shrug when they don't hand you anything then go ahead. I've always found you have much better odds of getting the stuff online. I'm usually fairly certain that someone hasn't grabbed them all and given them out to their friends before I ordered. And so far I've always gotten preorder bonuses from Amazon. I wasn't aware anyone had a problem with them.

And like I posted on the last page:
Keep going guys, we'll make sure to fulfill all artbooks.

I don't know why everyone keeps emailing GameStop about this, I've never gotten a helpful answer from them.

Agreed. I suspect this Gamestop employee doesn't even know what he's talking about. I suspect everyone will get their artbook if they preorder and if not, I believe Aksys will make it right.

Everyone that ordered with Saver may want to check their order page. Just as with Mirror's Edge when I preordered that, my order was automatically upgraded for free to 3-day UPS shipping.

"Shipping Method:
MM Upgrade-UPS Ground - $0.00
UPS Ground - Media Mail Upgrade"

My order indeed says that. Still no line item for the art book, though.

Really on the fence with this one...

Have it preordered with gamestop and have the art book shown in my order, but I'm curious to see if it'll be rare or not; also I'd like to hope the book is of good quality, which I doubt. If I hear they get more in I may cancel it for amazons. Keep me posted :)
What does media mail upgrade even mean?
If UPS uses the same terms as the USPS, "media mail" is just a discount on shipping for books/movies/games.

That much I know. But I'm wondering what that means with regards transit time. Apparently this counts as an upgrade?

The upgrade is from USPS Media Mail to UPS Ground shipping. In other words, instead of 5 - 10 day delivery, it's 2 - 3 day delivery.

At least that's how it was with my Mirror's Edge preorder.

I'm sure this question has already been asked but I searched the thread for 5 minutes and couldn't find an answer:

Just because my invoice doesn't list the art book separately doesn't mean that I won't be receiving it, does it? I pre ordered on 5/26 and it just says "BLAZBLUE: CALAMITY TRIGGER PRE - Xbox 360".

The few times I've ordered items from GS with bonus schwag in the past, they always listed it in the invoice. A bit confused here.

^^^

It's a mess right now. No one is guaranteed an artbook regardless of whether it appears as a line item in an order. Aksys assured in their forum there would be enough copies for all the preorders. The artbook is still listed in gamestop.com. I'll believe it when the artbook comes. If not, back to the store it goes for a full refund.

well after some frustration with newegg over my credit card not wanting to work right I canceled my preorder. I went in to the local mom and pop shop last night and wound up being the first, and probably only, preorder. I was talking to the manager (a friend i went to high school with) and he had never even heard of this one.

I figure even if they don't get in the premium packs, they have always done good by me and maybe they will get more of these smaller games in the future. Sadly, they still had the one copy of battle fantasia still on the shelf from when it came in...think i talked the guy into buying it himself though. Always good to expose more people to great fighters.

I had specifically read a post someone made on GameFAQs questioning the same thing and got an email back from gamestop basically saying, "after further look of your order, you will not be receiving the art book."

As of now, my honest guess would be no unless they get some more in.

^^^

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll sit tight for a few more weeks and see if anything changes.

Maybe the shipping upgrade is Gamestop's way of making up for not having enough art books?

^ possibly.

There was a comment in the thread I read about the art books being available again, but gamestop doesn't allow you to cancel-reorder. Like someone else says it sounds a mess and no one knows for sure.

Like free shipping is any consolation when you can go to Amazon and get it cheaper and no tax for most people (and even if you do, still cheaper)...

Yup that is true. I was tempted to get it at gamestop only but then I thought 1) the book is just going to sit around somewhere collecting dust
2)someone at home is probably goin to mess it up or worse throw it out
3) if you keep looking at it there will be wrinkles and such
4) someone is going to scan it and upload it anyway and you might feel bad about giving more money to gamestop.
5) don't want to go through the hassle of returning and losing gametime because of gamestop not taking the freaking artbook down from the site even when all the books are gone.

It doesn't sound good when blazblue is consistently high on most popular sales list. I think gamestop just left the artbook bonus up on the site just to boost sales because they know they are the only ones that have it and get away with lying about it with the not 100% guarantee you will get it. I don't want to be yet another gamestop statistic that got screwed from something.

It's not like there's much risk. Just buy it.. if you don't get your art book (and for some, even if you do), just return the game. You'll get all your money back.

Slightly off topic, but I have this pre-ordered and it shows the art book on my order. So I thought it was weird that my Prototype pre-order, placed long ago, doesn't show the bonus figure/poster listed.

So I emailed Gamestop and got the basic "while supplies last, you're not guaranteed anything" standard response. Which I think is misleading, if they ran out of something they should take the bonus offer down.

At this point, I am expecting the BlazBlue artbook, but not the Prototype figure. Either way I really don't care, if either come without the promo item I'll return them to a Gamestop store for a full refund and order them on Amazon, where they are cheaper.
Well, the artbook showed up on my order today. Yay?
It showed up in mine as well. It does say backordered next to it though.
It showed up in mine as well. It does say backordered next to it though.
Same thing happened with my Prototype promos until the game shipped, then everything changed to shipped.

Well I just got an email from GameStop and here what they said.

Thank you for contacting GameStop.com.

In regards to your BlazBlue reservation, we have recently received a
small supply of the artbooks and will be supplying orders until we are
out of stock. Please know that with this new shipment, you may not see
the artbook as a line item on your order. Please know that these
artbooks are free and only while supplies last and are not guaranteed.
However, if for any reason you do not receive your artbook, please write
back with either your order number.

Also note that this offer is only for orders placed online and will not
be available for in-store orders.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to respond to this
email.

Sounds good to me.

such a big fuss about the art book...

Game Informer's review is out and they gave it a 7.75

I cannot wait to play this, MVC 2 and Fight Night Round 4 :)

I called Aksys and Gamestop about it and they said it was Gamestop fault for not updating their system. So, in reality, there are thousands of artbooks still available for preorder and that no matter when you preorder online at Gamestop, you will still be getting your artbooks. It is not backordered. So rest assured and you dont have to worry about cancelling your order. Man, hope that clears up the confusion.

Reviews from fighting games don't mean that much. If you get into it, even a technically-not-oustanding game could end up being your favorite, right? Fighting games seem like a pretty personal genre to me.

Everyone tripping about the artbook: Pre-order bonuses are ALWAYS listed as backordered. ALWAYS.

Actually 7.75 is a pretty good score for a game that doesn't look mainstream for the most part. I don't know that fighting games are any more personal than any other genre although I would agree that like shooters, they seem to attract cult followings.

Niche is the term you're looking for I believe.
Niche is the term you're looking for I believe.
Actually, cult was the term I felt was more appropriate. There is a niche market for SHMUPS and fighting games, as well as a mainstream market for them, but there are cult followings for particular titles and series which often has no correlation to the quality of the game.

I also preordered it from amazon yesterday. i don't care about the artbook and i can't stand not having it the first day. i was gonna wait for a price drop but who knows when the price drop will be. plus it was in my goldbox yesterday and i have eca discount... so first pre order i have for my ps3!

Can't you say the same for all games regardless of genre? Anyhow, I don't think it's right to justify a game's review score just because it's not mainstream. There are a bunch of non-mainstream games that have received good reviews such as Persona 4, Guilty Gear, Beyond Good and Evil, etc.

This is true. I want to say the various skill level affects people more in the fighting genre, but that kind of lies everywhere. I mean, a game that might get good reviews can be exposed by the veteran fighting community to be broken and disregarded pretty quickly. But then that can be the case with an FPS too. They'll quickly find the most overpowered weapon in the game. I just think that "official review sites" spend more than a little more time messing with that stuff in the hot new FPS than a fighting game, which for all we know they may have played for an hour.

I think in the case of BlazBlue though, we all know what we're getting due to the people involved in making it. If you're into Guilty Gear, it's probably going to provide a similar experience. Only it's the first, so the cast will be more limited (which is good for a start because it's easier to even out the tier if you slowly add), and might have a few gameplay quirks that need to be adjusted in fiuture entries.

However, I've been wanting a GGXXX for years and it may never happen, so this is the next best thing, and I'm hopping on this preorder even though I regretted paying full price for SF4. Some lessons I never learn.
So are they offering the art book in stores now?
If GS holds true to its words, the art book is offered online only.

LOL Jekki, You just reminded me of how the sf4 strategy guide just copied and pasted most of the combo trials. If i recall correctly, it was missing abel's hurricane throw special in his movelist area.

robbart914 "I mean, a game that might get good reviews can be exposed by the veteran fighting community to be broken and disregarded pretty quickly." I can think of one game that didn't get kicked off the bridge. MVC2 is broken as hell and yet it's following is still very high. Plus, the HD remake is going to sell like crazy when it does come out. Well there was guilty gear 2 for 360 but it wasn't a fighting game. Really disliking the countless GG remixes coming out and it got to the point that I just don't follow it that much anymore. Blazblue is indeed a welcome change. it gave something that guilty gear didn't give for awhile which is a bunch of new characters.

So why are you regretting paying full price for sf4? Just curious why do you feel that way?
Quick question, if my order doesn't come with the booklet, can I return it to any local GS store?
I'm pretty sure you can do this because you can return used games purchased online at a local store, but I'm not 100% sure. I would be very, very surprised if you couldn't return it at a local store.

Yes, you can
