"Boogie" - New Wii rhythm game from EA
New Song Confirmed

Daft Punk - One More Time

Sold!
Oh hell yes.

The commercial sold me, though granted, I was intersted in the game since I first saw screenshots of it. I don't know how any rhythm game fan could pass this up.

(And another vote for Samba de Awiigo here!)

Wow that is a great mix of old and new "boogie down" songs.

Edit - Too bad they aren't the master recordings but that is to be expected...

Has anyone found anything that explains the gameplay system? From watching the videos, it doesn't seem on beat and more of a Bust a Groove/Move type system.

That list makes me want to puke. I knew this game was family friendly, but DAMN!

I hope hottest party doesn't follow suit.

Well this one snuck up on me. I hadn't even heard a release date for this game, and then tonight I saw a tv ad that confirmed this game is just days away from hitting.

I doubt I'll buy it, but I'm curious as to just how this game turned out. If it turns out it's good, I'll probably pick it up when it gets cheaper.

Looked interesting until I found out it was a USB mic. Not going to work with my setup, I'm beyond running cords.
Here's the Boogie soundtrack:
Am I correct in reading that the very song played in the commercial ("You're the one that I want") is not in the game at all?

I am really looking forward to Boogie.

Also, I have a feeling that "shedding the kiddie image" would mean 7/10 Wii games would be FPS's.

The Mic is corded? Ah man, that sucks... The commercial looks pretty interesting. And yes, the alien dude does look like Patrick.

Honestly I would rather skip the mic and singing altogether.

Is there a kareoke mode? Meaning that I can play by doing the dancing part and completely ignore the singing? If so then I am sold.

Well, to update... Gamefly isn't renting the game. Probably due to the Mic being corded. Of course, they could account for some of us having USB mics already. Now I have to figure out a way for my wife to be able to try out the game.

I'm pretty sure you can just play the dance mode without doing any karaoke. I doubt I would do any of the singing stuff, but I would like to test out the dance mechanic.

And Patrick looks like Earl from the Toejam & Earl games, minus the antennae.

Has anyone seen any videos or something that show how to play? I'd like to know how the game mechanic works more than anything. It looks like it'll just be fluff since they haven't shown anything to appeal to rhythm game fans, except for saying that it is one.

I dont even read their reviews, but saw the bad score, so I posted it.

Now GamePro has a review for it and gave it a 4/5.
Not to say that it won't suck, but I've long given up paying attention to 1up's reviews.
Not to mention that Jenn Frank reviewed it. I wouldn't buy this game to begin with, but Jenn Frank? Isn't she their board manager or something?

Circuit City is guaranteeing this title in-stock today starting at 2pm. If it's not in stock they will give you a $20 gift card.

If anyone picks this up today, I'm sure everyone would love to hear an actual user review. I don't have much hope, the videos I've seen don't look very tantalizing.

That review was total crap. The first few sentences bear that out.

I hope you're right.

So did anyone here buy this and can offer a real review on it?

GoNintendo is live streaming it right now: http://gonintendo.com/?p=22709

Karaoke portion of it looks competent, but I haven't played any of the Karaoke Revolution titles to know how it could be better or worse. Dancing in the karaoke portions is a throw-away, they don't seem to think the all-dancing modes are all that exciting. Haven't seen them demo those yet though. Graphics are good.

no kidding. The EGM Live explains the score. The girl who wrote the review was saying she hated the game because it was sending the message that it is okay for little girls to be slutty. Meanwhile, she is the most foul-mouth person I've heard on EGM live

I wouldn't say she is the most foul mouthed on the podcast but her reasoning is crap. You can tell that anyone stuck on a podcast with Jenn is just waiting for her to shut up. The awkwardness is almost embarrassing at times.

I hope she reviews SingStar and gives it a 3 for having music with suggestive lyrics. Oh noes, teh kiddiez will be corrupted! As if they don't hear this shit on the radio every day.

Is EA doing the thing where they ask reviewers to without reviews a couple days or something? Or ship their review copy late cause they know its a turd on their hands? Seems like it.

The Metacritic score currently has it at a "mixed or average" score of 65; without the 1up review, the average score so far is 76, which would push it just barely into "generally favorable". So, not fantastic, but not absolutey terrible either.

The reviews (not the one from 1-Up) have me worried, though. It's the most expensive Wii game, and they all say it's short, too easy, has weak controls, and lacks gameplay. I could put up with one or two of those, but all of them?

I made $60 worth of trade-in credit on Wednesday morning, and was all ready to spend it on Boogie, but I think I'll think about something else now.

Well, it's Mario Party range. So, half a million copies is probably guaranteed. Then again, people love buying Wii games with peripherals packed in. So, it might go to a million.

If this was last fall, I could see debating buying this even with shitty reviews, but this fall... there's more than enough on the way to take your money, no need to settle.
Well, if this sucks, there's always DDR Hottest Party. I'm not fond of karaoke anyways.
That's going to suck too.
That's going to suck too.
How's that? Far as I know, it's just a DDR game that has an additional mode that incorporates Wiimote/nunchuk movements in addition to steps.

Those are competent Expert steps for licensed songs. I really think Konami is putting more effort into this than SuperNOVA 2. Regardless of having the licenses being accessible to new players for the umpteenth time, they are still neglecting the goddamn Challenge difficulty to satisfy the experienced players.

The point is that Hottest Party is Mario Mix redux with the same stupid, gimmicky arrows. And you can only choose 8 different character for fucks sake! I haven't seen less than 30 in a DDR game before.

There is no way they are putting more effort into this than they have to. Not to mention the deliberate kiddie sizing of the interface and characters.

Clearly this is not the same type of DDR that other consoles get. Not even the PS2. When Konami decides to put a real DDR game on the Wii then I will buy.

Everyone wants new stuff in DDR and yet you guys want to turn it off.

And you can only choose 8 different character for *stupid emoticon* sake!

Because the CHARACTERS are the highlight of the game, yeah. Even I know the character design here is atrocious. Whoever had the bright idea of using some Karaoke Revolution-style characters is an idiot.

Halo thar SuperNOVA.

When Konami decides to put a real DDR game on the Wii then I will buy.

That IS a real DDR game. Just from looking at the difficulty of those Expert charts alone shows how much they're trying. And half the game's songlist is licenses! The other half is KOs.

I've never played Mario Mix but it still looks fun. I think the Wii remote functionality is severely underused though. There should be more motions.

I love DDR "elitists" like scrubking
the ones who sit by the DDR machines at arcades doing the steps with their goddamn fingers on nearby surfaces in the hopes it will garner some attention

Let me fix myself a bit.

Konami is trying hard to redeem itself for SuperNOVA in SN2. It's really, really sad that the licenses are looking like ass. Not because of the songs (well, anything Linkin Park-related that is or ISN'T a cover is terrible) but because of the steps. They're bland. They're terrible.

And they're not using the Challenge difficulty. Nothing pisses me off more than Konami not using that for the majority of their songs.

On the Konami Original side though, it's looking great for the most part. SN2 has introduced a series of songs that use the names of our planets and the sun as the song titles. They sound great and the crossovers from other games are just as good and they're introducing new remixes of PARANOiA and Trip Machine with videos to boot!

I just think it blows ass that they're not exploiting that Challenge difficulty. Hottest Party actually took priority for me over the PS2 SuperNOVA 2 simply for the vast amount of 8s and 9s just on licenses alone. But now they're equal (as they should be) from all the KOs introduced and I hope they're all available on the home consumer software.

...then again, I become wary of them being bullshit like FMAXX, FELM, and NGO.
