I complained (very politely) to Nintendo. Best buy is giving us a ridiculous runaround, and I expect no help from them. But Nintendo put this offer in my email, and they need to make good on it.
Threaten them about calling the BBB. Tell the manager to go call somebody. I should be going to try this soon.
If they're scummy enough, they won't even care if you do contact the BBB. I had to do that with Gameznflix (my login quit working, so obviously the service was useless, but I couldn't even log in to cancel it, and they wouldn't respond to any emails...or to repeated requests from the BBB! My credit card company finally had to step in, or I'd still be paying them). :(

If you do a call to the number on BB.com you will most likely have to be persistent with the deal until you get a rep who is aware of the deal. I myself had no luck with this.

Apparently BB.com and BB aren't actually the same thing. My friend who works for geeksquad was telling me about how if you get a instore pickup BB B&M only benefits 25% from the sale. So unless you run into a lenient manager you are SOL at getting this to work.

So the only legitimate way that they can do without breaking policy is the return and rebuy on two games that you don't want for ones in the store. This should work on the fact that either way stock is taken from B&M. But even some people have had problems with getting this to work instore. So really YMMV with a sugar coating of effort is necessary to get this deal to work unless you are lucky.

im thinking of keeping my Dragon Quest Heroes sealed then wait for Contact to be released at BB and go for the exchange. is that possible? note my receipt isn't the usual white one as I paid it in the CS.

I tried to get this to work and I didn't get such good help at the store. Basically she tried it like 10 times at there damn computer until she figured out it only worked if you had the game shipped. No in store pick up. They want there shipping moneis. She just had to be so damn smart and not just give me my games.

There was no chubby black chick or viet girl. Just the chubby white chick who didn't want to call her manager over i reckon. :bomb:

Was debating on wether or not just to get it shipped or try another B&M.

Megaman I don't think is apart of the deal. He still doesn't work.

Finally, I called again today--after no response from the "research" dept. An EXTREMELY nice young lady helped me today.

She was totally aware of the problems, and even referred to a memo they received about "making this right" for people. She told me she would place the order, and override the price so it was free.

Ordered Princess Peach, Lego SW2 DS and Mega Man. She was a little hesitant about the in store pickup, but then said that should be fine.

I'm off to the store to pick up the games.

I can't believe this finally worked. Not to bash, but as someone posted earlier, I had not spoken to a native-English speaking rep until this afternoon. Not sure if it made a difference that I called during normal 8-5 business hours or not.

What a hassle for a free game...
Whoa! I complained to Nintendo about how crappy BestBuy.com's implementation of this is, and................

They're sending me a free game! No kidding! I think it helps that I've registered about DS 12 games in my nintendo profile as well as my DS Lite. March of the Minis should arrive at my place next week.
lucky...........
With s&h, that's $6 for your "Free" game....
Oh yeah fuck Nintendo for charging him $6 for a brand new game that's been out for less then a week.

I went to the BB in Waco Tx last week and told them about what was going on. They said they would honor it but at that time they didnt have shit in stock on the floor cause they were re-arranging. I told them Id come back since its good till the 30th. Went back today and 1 of the 2 people that gave the ok was there and was able to get it honored there too. I decided to get my gf a pink Lite and decided to double up on the deal and got two rounds this time.

I tried calling 3-4 times today, and each and every time I got the same response:
this offer is only eligible for games released before September 1st. I even spoke to a supervisor at length during one of those calls, and none of them would budge and honor the deal.

I explained that it said that nowhere on the promotion page, and all they could do was apologize for the details not being clearer. The last guy said he couldn't do anything since it's a cross-promotion with Nintendo, that it'd have to be an offer featured on BB's homepage in order for him to help me at all.

The guy who said they've been briefed to not honor this deal on games released before September 1st seems to be on the money. The few that got lucky with representatives that were able to override the order for them must've gotten ones that didn't get the memo that stated the *new* promotion limitations. This is probably the worst experience I've had yet on a sales promotion.

Even though I got this in store it pisses me off how BB runs things. It's amazing how one lady will do this for you and when I spoke to a bunch of people there and supervisors they all said they couldn't do it. I don't understand that at all. I'm glad you got it to work but this makes me not want to deal with BB at all. It's not Nintendos fault as much as it's BB's.

That's why this is a scam. It *IS* clear. The deal is for any three DS games. Nowhere does it say anything about any restrictions. They need to honor what they claim the deal is.

Got lucky today. Went into best buy in seattle area and brought printouts of the bestbuy deal.

Spoke with the customer service supervisor and she did not give me any problem at all. Completed the transaction in less than 5 minutes. It seems that she might have heard this deal before or have done this before as she don't even spend a lot of time reading the printout that I brought.

Got Mario Hoops 3 on 3, Castlevania and Mario vs Donkey Kong. All restricted games on bb.com

Might try again at other BB tommorrow :)

Err

I have a feeling I'm going to have to try a few more places in Houston. Sure I got it to work online for instore pickup on the website. I got Tetris, Age of Empire and Starfox. All seem like fine ass games so far.

But I mean I NEED, Mario Kart, New Mario, and something else that cost 34.99. I really don't see anything though I'd be open to getting Super Mario 64 DS.

Xerxes, all those games work for the deal anyway. Mario 64's quite a fun game - nothing like real Mario games, gameplay-wise, but a very deep, exciting adventure.
im thinking of keeping my Dragon Quest Heroes sealed then wait for Contact to be released at BB and go for the exchange. is that possible? note my receipt isn't the usual white one as I paid it in the CS.
just wanna bump on this.. can you actually do it?

WOW...Today I also got a phone call from Nintendo and the representative said that he will ship me 1 free DS game.

He pretty much said that all the problems that people are having with this deal are BB's fault. He said that BB is going back on their word since Nintendo and BB agreed that all DS games should be eligible for the deal.

He then went on to say that nintendo is trying to rectify this problem by sending out some free games to those that were having problems with this promotion.

If you do get a phone call from nintendo you can only recieve certain DS games some that he mentioned were

ANY MARIO title (hoops, kart, PIT, New SMB etc..)
Advanced Wars
Any Nintendogs
Metoes
Brain age
Super Princess Peach
Big brain
Kirby CC
MArio vs DK 2
Yoshi touch and go
Metroid hunters or Pniball
Star Fox command

(Their were somemore titles but I can't remember them)

I actually just called Nintendo for the second time about the promotion. The first time was a few days ago, and the guy, while nice, essentially just told me to call Best Buy. Today I spoke to a helpful guy who set up an account for me or something with the people in charge of the promotion.

He said I'd be receiving a call either today or Monday about it; hopefully they'll take care of me like they took care of a few others in this thread. Lord knows Best Buy won't make good on the offer on their end. I suggest to those who have had no luck with 1-888-BestBuy to give Nintendo a call to see if they can help you out.

I really don't want Nintendo to have to make it up to people :whistle2:( This is Best Buy's thing. We already know Nintendo's above board

You know Nintendo is giving Best Buy credit for that 'free game' anyway. This is just cutting out the middle man. When they called me and offered me a game (after I complained), I asked for Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2, and was very pleased. They were very, very nice.

I will never, ever buy anything from bestbuy.com.

I got the return call from Nintendo earlier today, and while the guy couldn't give me a free game, he gave me a 1-year subscription of Nintendo Power. He even noted I was a subscriber over 10 years ago and said the magazine's gotten a lot better since then.

It's too bad I wasn't able to get the deal to work, but Nintendo was very cool about the whole thing. I certainly can't say the same thing for Best Buy, and after I use up my gift cards, I'll no longer buy anything from the stores or the website.

I already gave up on BB since 3 years ago when their store manager treat me like sh!t. I went there and bought Microsoft Wireless Mouse Bluetooth for $80+. For some reason it did not come with a software CD and I wanted to return the mouse because I realized $80 was just way too much for a mouse.

went into BB and got into an arguement with BB manager. He just plain refused my refund request and look at me as if I stole the stupid Microsoft Driver installation CD. I left BB furiously and went to another BB and try the return (luckily no problem because I don't even mention anything about the driver CD).

I never bought anything period from BB ever since, until yesterday when I tried my guts to do this DS promo.

guys question, is it possible to refund or exchange any of the 3 games you got in-store with this promo? still thinking of replacing one of em for Contact or some money as im kinda broke :(

I decided to email Nintendo about my disapointment with the Best Buy promotion. Although I don't expect anything from them, I just hope that they'll monitor their retail partner next time to avoid instances like this one. I would have taken advantage of the deal, but it proved to be far harder than it shoudl have been.

If you are broke, why not return them all and eat next week?

I got the deal after 2 phone calls and 1 hour. The first phone call ended with the woman telling me I needed to call Electronic Arts and get the promo code from them. Even though I didn't want any Electronic Arts products.

The second call went on and on. I kept explaining it to the guy and he kept saying he couldn't find it anywhere. He waited for his supervisor and finally after almost 45 minutes, he said the supervisor is taking too long so they approved me to just give you one game for free.

I wasn't 100% in the clear yet. I wanted local pickup, because I wasn't about to spend any more on shipping and make this deal worth less than it was. For some reason his computer wouldn't recognize any stores in my state, and he could only set me up with a store 20 miles away in the next state over. I just took it. I'd have to pay almost as much in gas and tolls as the shipping would have cost me.

The next morning I called BB and they actually switched it to my local store. That's the first time anything has gone right. After about an hour I called the local store to see if I could come in yet and after 15 minutes on hold the woman said, "I'm busy. You'll have to call back later. I have customers." And here I thought I was a customer as well.

Anyway, my email came saying I could pick them up in the store. I got there. Waited in line for 10 minutes behind this one couple. After they were done the guy said, "Someone else will help you." And he walked away. I had to get back into another line which has gotten much longer since I got here. 15 minutes later I was finally on my way home with Mario vs Donkey Kong 2, Mario Hoops 3 on 3, and Harvest Moon DS. I'm so glad it's over and still not sure if it was worth all of that time and trouble to save $30.

Customers on the phone aren't nearly as important as the flesh and blood customer in front of you.
Customers on the phone aren't nearly as important as the flesh and blood customer in front of you.
Back when I worked retail, all employees were important. We never told someone to call back. That's a slap in the face, more so that you're in a store full of people. Please hold, and have some lazy mofo get on the horn. There around and should know enough to help you.

Unfortunately, this view that the customers on the phone are less important than the customer in the store seems to be common, at least in the wireless industry. I've worked for several wireless companies (Sprint, Cingular, and Alltel), and even at Alltel, which is a much smaller company than the other nationwide ones, I am told not to answer the phone if I'm with a customer.

Some of the employees think that policy is rubish, and while I agree, I'm not the best at trying to answer the phone while with a customer. Because my customer interactions can take 15-30 minutes frequently, it's hard to take a phone call in the middle of such a lengthy transaction. What one of the sales reps does is answer the phone and take down the customer's number, saying that he'll call them back. If done well, that's probably the best approach left to us.

Like, maybe we could say: "Hi, I'm sorry, but all of the sales staff are with customers right now. Would it be okay if I take your number down and the next available rep calls you back?"

Something is better than nothing, I suppose.
If you are broke, why not return them all and eat next week?
seriously, is it possible to refund the 2 games and escape with 1 free game?
seriously, is it possible to refund the 2 games and escape with 1 free game?
if you do that, you think Best Buy would ever consider doing such promo in the near future?
rest assured that they'll think of people like yourself as future customers that they should avoid. not returning of what's part of the purchase is stealing, plain and simple.
besides, there will be better deals and promotions in the near future.

i had a lil trouble with this at first. it would try and charge me for all 3 games if i selected pickup. then it would still charge me for all 3 if i selected delivery. so i created a bestbuy account for free then logged in by going to nintendo first then best buy and then selected my games then checked out and selected pickup and it worked. picked up mario 64, sonic rush, and big brain academy on the last day. not too shabby of a deal.

That only worked because those games were older. This deal was a scam because it dosen't work with all DS games like the deal claimed.

HOLY SHIT...the week before last I tried calling the BB customer-no-service and explained the details of the deal as stated by nintendo and BB. I told the person I spoke with what the deal was, how you got to access the deal, and what the problem was/is etc etc. Again, this call was place the week before last. I was told Id be emailed with 48hrs. TODAY I finally got my email reply. This is what they said-
William,

I am Andrew with Best Buy Customer Care.

Thank you for contacting Best Buy about the promotion that we have
going
on with Nintendo. The following are the conditions that must be met
before the saving will show up on your order.

1. The only way a customer can get the offer is if they are logged into
My Nintendo.

2. Only Nintendo DS titles are eligible and must be already released.
Promotion does not work for preorders.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We look
forward to your next visit to one of our stores or to www.BestBuy.com.

Sincerely,
Andrew
Best Buy Customer Care Team

NO fuckING SHIT! They told me exactly what I told them the only diff was ordering online wasnt working. Good thing I got B&M to honor it.

India's really big for outsourcing call centers, for some reason.

As for the deal ...

I gave up on it and just got the games I wanted from the B&M with GGCs. It ended up costing me about $15 more, but the games I wanted turned out to not be available with this deal, anyways. Boo-urns for BB.

On a side note, I look forward to TRU's better B2G1 deal in late October. The bad part of that, though, is that if it's like past years, handheld games won't be included. :(

Why aren't handheld games included I wonder?

That's EXACTLY the kind of support I expect from most places. Spend a lot of time and effort emailing them, and weeks later get back a response that clearly shows they didn't read your question.

I called BB customer-no-service and discussed how they didnt reply to my issue in time to get in on the deal etc etc. THey said theyll fwd my complaint to the proper people and Ill get a reply via email in 2-3 business days. f'BB
