CAG PS3 Fighting Game Matchmaking Thread - Injustice out NAO!
^^ Hmmm....

CALI MOTHAfuckA! *throws up west side*
agreed :p I live in Norcal, The scene here is really tight knit depending where you live but I feel like an outcast when I show up to an arcade because I'm still a scrub :(

Good games irrev. Couple notes about Balrog, his ex dash punches and overhead dash punch can be punished by the opponent by grab on reaction. Also another good wakeup for Balrog is to EX Dash punch. And there's always block. Overall though, your Balrog shows promise.

Which reminds me, there was also a recent article featured on SRK about the importance of blocking on wakeup.

http://sonichurricane.com/?p=3923

Very interesting and much of it makes sense.

It isn't all about offense. If you are able to block and tech your opponent's strings, it could lead to them second guessing themselves. You can pretty much plant a seed of doubt by just appropriately blocking whatever the other dishes out.
I didn't even know this existed?
This has existed for a while, hell, I think option started one before this too. Dude's been gathering the PS3 fighting game community via this topic. Shame the 360 is dominant on CAG, way more people in their topic.

Here's to 1000 posts and counting.

Unfortunately, what dist says is true. PS3 forum is kind of a hole in the wall. Only the avid PS3 owners usually frequent here. Easily overshadowed by 360 in CAG player base.

Either that, or PS3 owners aren't very outspoken.

We should all get mics. Although I have a very hard time hearing any person with a mic on that game. Is there a volume setting for speech in the settings?

I could make out some chatter on the mic (my mic is crap). But that's it. I prefer skype.

and GGs to anathema. What character are you leaning towards now as your secondary? Chun-li/ or Rose?

Speculating - When ssfiv arcade rolls around the corner. Two words - Butt splash. All day everyday. I might dabble a little bit with some schoolgirl action also. Alpha 3 baby. Looking forward to messin around with Rolento (the character, not the cag) as well. No homo.

And one more, cause it's Blazblue -

I've noticed that for a long time now. Most threads die off in the ps3 section and there booming in the 360 section. Blazblue CS thread for example. At least we have a main fighting thread thanks to Option.
A lot of us have mics, but the voice chat goes to shit once you start adding people from different parts of the country.
Yea, no kidding, can't hear a damned thing. Even if it's a bunch of people from the east, as soon as somebody from the west joins, it goes to crap.

Well... this is CAG... its always been 360 dominant here; not surprised in the least. Now if we went to dustloop for BBCS chat, it would be the other way around.

yeah ggs esper

don't know about chun or rose, I just play both because they can play like dhalsim and zone/anti air (even though I don't really know chun's that well) as well as pressure which dhalsim doesn't have
and my rose links suck, even on counter hit, c. lk -> c. mp doesn't even link.

you've got some mighty execution skills, but I think you keep using the same 2 block strings, or maybe I'm too noob to tell the difference. Also with your mighty execution, you could be doing normals -> sjc -> ultra. Several times I saw the st. shorts to c. mk and expected sjc ultra.

The only remaining character in the roster that I can think of who can play like your (sim/chun/rose/sakura) in a way is guile. I'm surprised you haven't picked him up also.

For c. lk -> c.mp on Rose, it's a hit/ or miss for me. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't. I don't plink it because as soon as I hit c.lp ~ c. mp; my index and middle finger always hits ex soul drill on accident rather than lk soul drill.

I'm glad that you noticed the blk strings I used for viper. Some of them looked the same, some of them didn't. I tried to change it up a bit with burning kicks/ overhead/ ex seismo / grabs/ mp thunder knuckle. I don't know, muscle memory took over I guess. As soon as I get in, my fingers go buckwild. When I'm looking at the screen, I'm like "really?, why did I use that again?" -shrugs- My mind just goes blank, lol.

For normals -> sjc -> ultra, I can't do it online. I'm pretty much ass on that. I don't use it because it's risky; I'm either going to super jump on accidentl or I can't see hit stun fast enough while I'm buffering quarter-circle fwd+ quarter circle fwd up motion. If the opponent blocks the last hit (c.mp for example) which leads to ultra. I'm dead. I'm going to eat a big combo or a naked ultra. So, I can't make any mistakes with her. She's like glass, too fragile.

Execution - I spend too much time in training mode. But yeah, spend at least 20-30 mins. just doing your bnb combos/ or setups to ultra till you get sick of it. Do the same bnb combo on the left side 30 times; same goes for the right. f you mess up once, start over from zero again. If you did it on point. Do the next bnb combo. It's torture for me, but it works. And setup the dummy guard to random to practice hit-confirms. It really helped the way I played.
guile is kinda boring, only ones that tops him on the bore list is balrog/bison
Then toss a TOSTADA on DAT GUILE! Or perhaps a refreshing TORILLA?!

Thanks, that was a very informative video, I'll have to study up on it in my free time. Very much appreciated.

That pretty much is the main way, other than to constantly play other people, to get better at a game. You should've seen Esper over a year ago, big improvement definitely. My my, look at how much you've grown. It brings a tear to my eye.

Gypsy tears! You can always cry on my shoulder.

It's Wednesday and I'm about to setup an endless lobby of 6 slots max around 6 PST/ 9 EST tonight. I'll end it around 9 PST/ 12 EST. Three hours of ssfiv is too much for me. However, if you guys want to keep fighting, go right ahead after I'm gone.

I've already sent FR's to people who aren't on my list. I will send invites around 5:50 PST/ 8:50 EST. If I see any of you guys on with the game. An invite is coming your way. When you see an invite pop up, don't delete it. Keep it in your inbox. You can always join in anytime during the time period I've said above.

I will try to provide info throughout the night regarding lobby updates - who joined/ who left the lobby. So, if there's any room and you want in; post here on this thread and I will look out for it. But, if there is a problem(connection issue/ lobby's full) getting into the room. (I'm saying it again) Please post in this thread; hopefully someone(or you) will volunteer to create a lobby for other cags who want in on the action as well.

Let's have some fun tonight.
I hope everything goes smoothly.
Got any guacamole wid dat?
Guacamole only works with people who constantly jump in. And it gets hit out of if not timed right.

There needs to be a move called burrito bump.

Off Topic, but it makes me laugh why people wonder why Japan is so far behind technological wise when it comes to games.

"Q: I want to be a programmer. Do I need to know how to program?

A: No, as long as you have a love of programming."

I would go, but I'm about to go out anytime now... anytime... Haha, maybe I'll hop on in a bit. and play a couple rounds.

Workin' on an epic blog/tutorial though... hmm... haha, I'll be on for a bit.

edit: Sorry, have to leave. Gotta take out a special lady for dinner, a.k.a. my mother.

This event was super fail. But, it's alright though. :) I should've posted this memo a week in advance, not the day before. People have stuff to do on a Wednesday, I respect that.

edit - Your mom? Nice!

And if there's any deals for Blazblue: Crack Shoot, keep me posted. Thanks.

man, if 6 cags wanted to play each other at the same time, I'd set up some round robin brackets

players like me get trashed, so I just end up watching tv while waiting, which doesn't really satiate the hunger to fight

If they implemented some sort of Round Robin system, or at least had the tournament mode featured in HDR, I would be SO HAPPY.

But alas.... Capcom does not give a shit. The SSFIV Tournament DLC was pretty much worthless.

No one plays tournaments. I tried to find one the other day with no luck. Sounded like a good idea when they first announced it.
Yarr, why must you be so easy to play Ragna and Tager? So much damage for such little execution.
I dunno. Sort of evens out that Tager can't double jump, can't dash, his command throws can STILL be escaped and they are easily jabbed out of. But the Body Tosses just make Jins RAGE. Especially his fist going through Jins and Noel's Drives.
And the Tapatio Toss
How about the ULTRA BURRITO BOMB? He says DELICIOUS and then does a dive kick straight at the chest and when it connects he uses the power of BEANS to encircle you like the DELIVERY except it has many tosses. Just like a good Taco Truck Burrito.

Main complaint was how easy it was to cause so much damage with so little effort execution-wise. One SPD with Tager is ... what, 1/3 of the character's life? A simple 360 + B takes off that much, whereas you have these loooooooooong ass combo strings that MAYBE take off the same amount with other characters. Sure, same can be argued about random distortions, but it's easier just to churn the entire time during a block string while mashing B when you have no meter and hope they screw up? m i rite?!

New one!

Same could be said about Zangief Online. Though this comic was made for Street Fighter 4, I also believe this applies to anyone playing against Tager on TrollsBlue

Yea, that pretty much summed it up.

I need to break my stupid habit of crouch teching. Hook, line, and sinker. Good shit option.

Edit - What else I need to work on - stop jumping, apply more footsies, work on that ryu matchup. Uppercut comes out so fast. Got nailed in the ass so many times with it.

Yeah, very good games. Sorry I only played Ryu. I'm trying to learn how he plays since I've got a couple local friends new to street fighter who are picking up Ryu.

No! Next time you play me. I want your Ryu. I don't want your Dictator; I don't want your Cammy; I don't want your Ken; I don't want your Guy; I don't want your Boxer; I don't want your Guile; I don't want your Vega; I don't want your Abel; I don't want your Adon; I don't want your Sim; I don't want your Honda; I don't want your Makoto; I don't want your Chun-li.

Just your Ryu! I'll bring my gameface. Count on it. This shit reminds me of pokemon. Like your the gym leader and I'm ash ketchup. I need to beat you, cause I want that badge. I need more experience, so I can lvl up my viper against certain pokemon.

edit - Wheaties: Fuel sounds good right now.

it's okay to spam crouch tech esper, I'm pretty sure I see option spam that too with bison/balrog. I don't know any frame traps for chun except c. short short to st. roundhouse but I don't think I pulled it off.

edit: ok thats not a frame trap I dont think, maybe it's c. short c. jab to close st. roundhouse

yo, playing ryu is knockdown pressure, making sure to option select, or some clutch footsies

dang its late, ignore everything i say
it's okay to spam crouch tech esper, I'm pretty sure I see option spam that too with bison/balrog.
Yeah, totally spam that crouch tech.

Chun has some frame traps. i.e. cr.lp, cr.rh

cr.lp, st.mp

(hit confirm) st.mp, st.rh

I'll have to look at frame data to see if she has any others. But I'm too lazy right now.

She doesn't have a dive kick, but she has hazan shu (sp?) which is great to use after a deep meaty jump in. Assuming there's no mashin of teh dp.

edit: In related news, Chun-li won the Gods-Garden 2.5 tournament. Nemo taking top spot and two other Chun players at 3 and 4. Acqua, an Ibuki player took 2nd.

im pretty sure c. jab c. rh doesn't work, that is more for backdashes

don't know what u mean by st. mp st. rh
it doesn't link not even on counter hit

maybe you mean st. mp (counter hit) link into cr. rh?

I don't think hazanshu punishes crouch tech

and yeah chun li is special now with that ultra 2

edit: hmm just looked at eventhubs, where were the rufus players to knock out chuns?

edit again: just tested a bunch of those frame traps, they dont really work that well, I think the best one was c. jab st. mp but that just pushes you away, you could maybe cancel into hazanshu or kikouken, w/e

Last edited by a moderator:
st.mp, st. rh is for when you expect them to be holding up. It catches them on the rise, only when st.mp hits.

Frame traps aren't necessarily combos. They're basically couple frame windows meant to punish start ups of moves.

Combo/Link =/ Frame trap and Frame Trap =/ Combo

Some chars are blessed with Combo's that can be frame traps, i.e. Ryu

http://shoryuken.com/f322/whats-frame-trap-221695/#post8193220

Gives an example of cr.lp > cl.st.RH which gives a 2 frame window(trap). You can always vary size of the window by walking forward after cr.lp, making the window larger. It's hard to frame trap someone if they arent mashing (a.k.a. delayed crouch tech)
