I don't see how it can be my HDD, since it's only a few months old. I'm wondering if Sony's incompetence caused this with a recent firmware update.

I don't have any phantoms, so the only real loss would be some recent save data.

If anyone has any ideas, feel free to PM me. I'm not in a rush, so I'll try a few things first, however, I would advise you to not restore the file system unless you have no other choice, as it will likely require a system wipe.

I do rebuild database every 2 or 3 months to keep the ps3 fresh but never used the option restore file system so thanks for the heads up.

That was my thought as well. It happened as soon as I updated my firmware. I didn't hear any other issues, so didn't really mention it, but since you had a similar problem attempting this, I have to imagine it is.

If I delete one of my phantoms (just the digital game, not the account slot) and use a timeshare of that same game to re-download the digital game would the game still play after I remove the timeshare?

I have a somewhat difficult time understanding this question. Are you asking that if you delete a game (ex. Borderlands 2) of a phantom you have on your (PS3?), yet keep the phantom slot, then obtain a timeshare of the same game, re-download it (ex. Borderlands 2), then remove the timeshare account off your PS3; if it would still be playable on your PS3 through the license of your previous Borderlands 2 phantom account?

Yeah, I have done that sort of procedure before, it works. Because you have a phantom of that game (ex. Borderlands 2) still on your PS3 (the license just needs to activate). I don't quite get why you have to delete the game though, yet keep the phantom, only to get a timeshare of the same game?

He probably needs to free up the hdd space for another game and just wanted to make sure he could go back to the deleted game when he has the space again

resell is basically when you get the account info so you can use it whenever

phantom is a one time download

Yes, on the ps3. What you described is exactly what I'm looking to do. I thought it might not work due to the fact that the only account (with the game's license) that had logged in after re-downloading was the timeshare account. I think that's what Yanksfan thought too (above).

Why did you have to do it? Yesterday the game started lagging/freezing to a ridiculous amount at the opening video. I can easily skip that video and the rest of the game plays fine. Still, I've never seen that happen with a digital game before and I'd rather get that fixed now rather than later when the game becomes harder to come by.

apparently sony patched the ability to redownload a game through a resell and tie it to an existing phantom. i used to be able to do it (redownload the game through a resell if i wanted to say, delete a title update or something on a phantom, obviously not able to log back into the phantom to redownload it) but yesterday i got the error that said "this account is also used by another user on this ps3, please use a different email"

Wait, so the resell you used was part of the same account that the phantom came from? That's the only way the message makes sense.

If you are in contact with the other resell maybe you guys could agree to change the email on the resell?

Hopefully using a different account resell still works.

Yup, there shouldn't be any restrictions and I believe I should be able to grab all the downloadable content and play on a NA account. But yeah, I sent him a PM as well in addition to the post. Fingers crossed he still has it or someone else does. Not exactly a popular share/game.

changing the email should work, but you used to be able to have one email/pass hooked up to multiple users on a ps3. one of the new updates must have fixed it

He owned an entire account (2 resells and 2 phantoms) as of the beginning of June, so it's likely he still has at least one spot available.

If I understand your problem correctly, have you tried booting up the game on the resell account? I've had similar instances where I would activate the game and re-download it, go back onto my main and boot it, and get the same error message you got. After booting up the game on the resell account it came from, everything was fine for me

if you already have a phantom of an account, you can't also have another user using that same account on your ps3. it won't even let you link the user to a psn account, is what i was trying to say. you would only really want to try that if you had a phantom that you wanted to remove a game patch for, forcing you to delete the game. you used to be able to just log in with the same account's resell and redownload it, then deactivate and delete the resell user acct, tying the newly downloaded game back to the phantom. however that doesn't work anymore, but maybe changing the email works. i'm not trying that tho

 
I've done it multiple times in the past

Anyway, looking for people to play Payday 2, Dead Nation, Dead Island Riptide, Defiance, Dragon's Crown and TLOU with this week. PM me if your down. Also need a co op partner for Dead Rising 2 (not off the record) for the trophy. I know every little detail about the game so I could walk you through it.
