Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Gen. Discussion & Info

Hey isn't there a POST on the forums about how to open your router so it says OPEN instead of STRICT. I am trying to help memphisGUN fix his connection.
I cant get my IP to work!
Just use the part of my Thread Trakan posted and do the DMZ Hosting Part. That should clear up your problems.
Finally got past a 2.0 K/D ratio. That took way longer than it should have.
It's just a beta...

Why care so much about your score? I just play to have fun, but hey I guess if having the best score you can have is fun for you then that works.

In other news, I am so psyched about this game now. Just this small beta itself has been more fun for me than most other full games I've played recently. I can't wait to see what the full version will be like, with all maps, guns, unlockables, perks.... .

Going to be amazing.
I'm enjoying the beta, but will most likely pass on the full version.
you my friend, are insane.
you my friend, are insane.
Well, maybe I will get it eventually. By then, everyone will be so good at it, that I won't stand a chance! Plus, I have a kid coming within the next few weeks, so I wouldn't have time to play it.

Not only that, but with Halo 3, Guitar Hero III, The Orange Box (and every other sweet game coming out soon), I really need to be selective with my purchases.

It's a very natural way of gauging how you're doing in the game and the more you play the harder it is to steer because it aggregates everything from the very beginning. I really don't go out of my way to play hardcore or anything, which is why I think it's cool that I got past that level.

I heard the 1up yours podcast a couple of weeks ago and this was their big worry. Does the game have some sort of ranking system that makes your online character more powerfull over time or something? The more you play online the more weapons ect you have at your disposal?

The more you play online the better the weapons and perks you get. Doesn't necesssarily make you stronger but it definitely makes you tougher to take down.

I don't think the perks you can unlock later will terribly imbalance the game (in respect to new players vs. players who have unlocked everything).

It's probably more like Rainbow Six Vegas, sure you can unlock new weapons and camo as you rank up, but they don't give you any real distinct advantages.

It's not like it's going to be 'Oh my god! My M4 is useless against his gatling gun!"

In theory, shouldn't the True Skill system help curb this as well. If it is looking to match you with players of your same skill, it wouldn't match a level 0 against a level 50 or something of that nature.

That is if they are even using the system for this game. I don't know.

I too will pass on the full version.....at least until it drops to the $30 price range. $60 is too much to pay for any game.

I hope they use something, it's a free for all right now. The system sucks for the new guy. Not only is everyone better than you, they also have better weapons as well.

I don't think I'll be picking this up at $60 either ... the fact that it rewards people that are better than me makes me think playing multiplayer will just be an exercise in futility for me.

Hopefully they make some changes so the better players don't get better equipment than people just starting - that's messed up.

Better players will kill the newbs any who so why all the complaining?

I will mos def pick this up at launch. Not only is the Multi Player hott fire the campaign will be great as well.
Sweet more perks!...though it won't take long to max out at LVL 16.
It should take longer then it did to go to 11 since you need more EXP for every level.
You can level up and gain access to all the weapons and perks, even while losing.
Yes, that's what I do. It adds a level of discouragement though.

As long as they factor it into matchmaking I'm fine with it, I realize this is just a bet.

At least you are 1 point away from level 12, so most everyone should be able to setup the clan stuff after their first round.

Yeah. It took me seriously only about 2 hours, maybe less, to get to lvl 11.

I have to agree with a lot of the comments in here. This was one of my top to-get games for this fall, but I think after playing the beta a bit, I may wait till it drops. While I don't really agree with the whole line of thought that it rewards veterans unfairly (look at R6:Vegas, which has a bit less of an advantage, but still), I don't think this is a superb game. I'd probably give it a 8.5 from what I've played it. Good enough to pick up, but not for full price.

I kind of had the opposite reaction. After playing Call of Duty 3 (although it was not developed by IW), I was very cautious about Call of Duty 4. But this beta basically convinced me to pick it up at or near launch.

i'm on the fence about getting this day one, maybe as part of the toysrus BOGO deal. playing the beta is fun and all with the levelling up, but it doesn't seem to be anything new and half of this seasons AAA titles are fps. so instead of being swamped with all shooters i want to mix it up. maybe i'll get this day one first then get halo 3 later. i'm honestly not that excited for it, but it's like a mandatory purchase for 360 owners.

WOOOOHOOOOO! I am so glad they raised the lvl cap, lvl 11 was getting boring.

Also everyone add a CAG clan tag to your name. I know I wil be doing so.

I dont know how people are juding this whole game from a beta of multiplayer. You havent even seen the singleplayer and the game isint finally tweaked the beta is here for you to get a taste of it not to review the whole game off a small portion of the game.

Its not that hard to take out levels alot higher then you.

Yep it's not really that hard. People will find any reason on why all the others players are better ( Either be different Guns or Higher levels ) basically looking past the obvious reason, They Suck.

No, quite the opposite, that was actually the main thrust of my comment. When you suck at FPS's, like I do, it's very discouraging for people who are already much better than you to be given an advantage. It just adds a bit of an insult on top of it.
