Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Gen. Discussion & Info

Man, it sucks trying to get a game together during the daytime. I'm home because the DirecTV guy is coming this afternoon so I had some time to play this morning. I sat in lobbies for just about an hour before a game got going. Every now and then one guy would pop in, sit for a minute then leave. On the plus side I got a good amount of XP since you can do both falling challenges on Crash and I finished an RPD challenge all in one game. I'm liking the challenge system, I think. I'm assume they're going to wipe our stats for the commercial release too.
 
Anyone have any good strategies for this game? Like what weapons and perks do you use on each map?

I am mostly using the M4 Carbine as my primary weapon with the grenade launcher attachment. The perks I use are either Sonic Boom or Juggernaut for perk 2 and Deep Impact for perk 3. This combination works well on Crash and Vacant. However, it doesn't always work well on Overgrown.

Anyone here use the C4 perk? Which maps does it work well on?

C4 works well on all maps while playing Search and Destroy. Not too useful in Deathmatch. Sometimes though.

The M4 Carbine is alright, but inaccurate as hell. I used that for a while, until I tried the M16. It shoots in bursts, but it's way more accurate and I get a better K/D ratio. I also use a laser sight. Much, much easier to see out of than the iron sight. Juggernaut doesn't help enough, at least for me, so I stick with Deep Impact/Stopping Power.

FYI for anyone who tries tomorrow, if you use adblock plus, it may block the submit button so just whitelist the page.

That should have been a given. Are they doing that now or going to do that some time soon? This is off-topic but they are doing the same with hellgate. I plan on preordering it soon. They are giveing a beta code for it too. They just didnt say when you will get it though.

Probobly because XBOX Live has been down for maintanance....then they f'd up the NAT settings...;) It should be ok now though according to MajorNelson.com

GameStop should be giving them out now. One of the GameStops near me had a poster that said that if you pre-ordered COD4 you got a Beta token.
 
I reached the new level cap in around an hour or so (from 11 to 16). Unlocked some new Perks and completed some more challenges and I'm really enjoying this game.

I'm digging the achievements also, not too much related to online gameplay.

I might consider picking this one up, assuming I have any money after GH3 (360 and Wii) and Rock Band and after college raping me.

It was down for maintenance early this morning, 2-6am Pacific/5-9am Eastern. I was playing at 11:00 am eastern and it was fine.
 
I got in via the Gamespot token giveaway. For those that missed out today, try again tomorrow since they'll be giving 20,000 tokens a day till Friday.

Sweet dude, thanks! Downloading right now! I tried to get a token with the charlieoscardelta.com thing, but that failed miserably. You're awesome!

And using someone else's beta won't screw me up will it? I know they had the ban for people who downloaded it on one system with one account, then just transfered their account to another system to download the beta, but this is different right?

The ban thing wasn't true.

Even if it was, this is a different method. The keys are not tied to certain gamertags.
 
tried playing a little while ago and it can't find a game with people in it for some reason. i'm guessing it has to do with the maintenance.

Same for me, and was in a party that couldn't get in games either.
 
tried playing a hour or so ago and a message blinked stating that you have to be on xbox live to play [ i have a wireless bridge, so i'm logged onto xbox live when i turn on my console automatically ]. it wouldn't let me join a game so i went to the dash and tried again. same message came up.

so from the beta, i hit the guide button and signed out, then signed back in, and it started working again. was a little laggy though.
 
Weird, I kept getting Host Not Responding prompts all day and couldn't get into a single game, even when trying to join open games on my friends/recent players list.

It has to do with XBL being down earlier. They messed something up, and they're working on fixing it.
 
Call of Duty 4 will be available in Regular and Collector's Edition:

TeamXbox.com has discovered that both the Xbox 360 and Windows PC versions of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will get a Limited Collector’s Edition. Activision plans to make the formal announcement tomorrow, but tonight we can confirm that both editions will include a hardcover art book featuring exclusive concepts, never-before-seen imagery and artwork.

Additionally, the Xbox 360 edition will also include a bonus DVD with more than four hours of material that explores the S.A.S. from WWII to the present, and a series of “making of” vignettes highlighting Infinity Ward’s research, technology and story development for the game.

These Collector’s Editions will be available in limited quantity the same day the standard editions ships: November 5, 2007. Below you can see an image of one of the book's pages:

I already got a sweet deal on this at Liongames.com so I hope that they don't offer some sweet incentive for the CE besides the artbook.

MP5 + Stopping Power perk is a better newb combo then the M16 (IMO).
 
[quote name='Plac1d']MP5 + Stopping Power perk is a better newb combo then the M16 (IMO).[/quote]i find that submachine guns work best on vacant, while the other maps the m16's longer range comes into play. but if you're going to use the mp5 or any other submachine gun, also use steady aim for better hip shooting. you can usually take out 2 guys in a row without having to use sights pretty quickly, the only bad thing is that you pretty much use at least half of a clip to take someone down.
 
My vacant combo for almost guaranteed massacre is mp5 w/ silencer and UAV jammer/Hip accuracy. Explosives are up to you.

The rest of the maps I snipe, just because I'm pretty bad at it and trying to get better.
 
I generally use M4 + Stopping Power on Crash.

Since Vacant is close-quarter combat, I use M4 + UAV Jammer.

For a long distance map like Overgrown, I generally use M16 + Juggernaut.
 
i go back to the m4 to get the red tiger camo, but i find myself playing worse than if i used an m16. i think the higher damage has something to do with it, but more importantly i find the burst fire helps my accuracy a lot even in close quarter situations.

Played for a few hours last night--- very entertaining. Had a weird problem with matches though, and I'm not sure if its my connection or not. One round would finish just fine, but then an error would come up saying that the match time did not match game server time, and we were all kicked.

It wasn't too lame-- but because of that none of the stats tallied, so I think out of the 12 or 15 games I played, I think I only made it up to second class Private.

And is there a way to take the m4 out of burst mode? Guys are ripping me apart with their dinky mp5s.
 
Someone posted it was up at 12:13 I last checked at 12:09 b4 running out the door. They still had some left when I got back I was getting for a friend who is at work now. :D Happy hunting newbies.

The M4 doesn't have a burst mode, it's fully automatic. The M16 is burst only.
