Hey guys this is my first ever review so try not to be to critical. I managed to snag an early copy of the game; so this review will cover my overall impression of the game so far. I have already completed campaign on veteran, and spent over 8 hours on the multiplayer. I will divide this review into two sections. As we all know multiplayer plays a huge role in the Call of duty series so that will be in a part all its own, the other will be on single player. Do not be alarmed there will be no major spoilers, in regards to the campaign.
Without giving much away the story in Modern warfare 3 is incredible. The story picks up immediately after the end of Modern Warfare 2. The opening scene was very memorable and sets up the entire mood for the rest of the game. The campaign is filled with over the top missions, in which you play a variety of characters. With the exception of one level you play as mostly new faces to the Modern Warfare universe. My only complaints with the campaign is that there seems to be a lot more changes in characters and perspective which can make the story slightly hard to follow. One minute you could be boarding a submarine, suddenly you find you are in Africa playing as a completely different character, or performing a covert mission as another character. The campaign as a whole is great however and brings the story to a satisfying conclusion, though be warned it is very short, it took me about 8 hours to finish on veteran.
Before I review the multiplayer, I would like everyone to know that for me personally multiplayer is the major selling point for any game, since it is there that I spend the majority of my time. That being said in every Call of duty game since Call of duty 4, I have always played multiplayer before the campaign. And this wasn’t any different. I immediately noticed that the multiplayer in this game feels slower, if you carry anything other than an smg and shotgun your character literally sprints for 5 steps before stopping. The only thing that seems to be faster is the time it takes to die. Quick scoping returns, as well as the incredibly annoying MW2 snipers. A few guns in the game seem to be already overpowered and have already become overused; which can also be said about the new support killstreaks. Let’s just say that you will see a lot more Stealth bombers, Emps, and Advanced UAVs. The maps themselves also seem to be badly designed compared to previous titles in the Call of Duty franchise. Overall, I can safely say that multiplayer is MW3’s weakest part.
MW3 can be best described as somewhat of a mixed package. The multiplayer is the weakest out of all the previous titles, but the campaign is incredibly fun and brings the trilogy to a satisfying conclusion that every fan of the Modern Warfare should experience. However the campaign alone is not worth the admission price of 60 dollars. Multiplayer though somewhat off balanced is still enjoyable, but not even on the same level of Call of duty 4 or even Black ops. I would recommend even the most hardcore Call of duty veterans, to try this game out (rental) before you pay 60 dollars for it.
