Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 - July Elite DLC out now, Terminal free for everyone

Didn't you read one of the other links posted here? It said that quickscoping seems to be the same speed as MW2, so if that is true then quickscoping is certainly going to come back.

I'm happy to see MW3 play like MW2, but at the same time I wish they could refine the graphics or at the very least add more new weapons. I'm glad they got rid of Last Stand, Noob Toobing and nukes though.

IMO graphics don't mean much when it comes to online play so long as thay are acceptable (which they are).

P.S. Noob tubes aren't gone, the grenade launcher is making a return!

The Hardened Edition for the PS3 and 360 is now available for pre-order on Amazon. It includes an Elite subscription. So stoked for this game now!

The enhanced UAV is not like the blackbird, it scans just like a UAV but much faster and it shows the direction still. It is not a live stream like the blackbird unfortunately.

The noob tubes will prob be toned down like in Bl Ops. I guess no one will have any special pre-orders for the hardened edition so I better go ahead and get it so I will have it on launch day.

I think they will be the same as in MW1 (maybe a bit less), just without the Danger Close.

Also the Flak Jacket is as if not stronger than black ops making you almost immune to explosions.

Black Ops had horrible hit detection and latency issues, so the online better be flawless if they aren't doing anything to the graphics engine. Bungie made Halo look better with the Reach engine, and the new Halo HD remake looks amazing so I can't see why Activision wouldn't update the graphics engine outside of pure lazyness.

Hardened Edition will save you $10 if you were planning on subscribing to Call of Duty Elite, otherwise it doesn't seem worth it.

I loved Flack Jacket in black ops. Always ran with it. Immune to explosions FTW!
yeah this is new...i'm both excited and on the fence in the announcement and design direction of the MW3 themed console. the only major advantage I see with this design is, in the event you actually do scratch your console or get finger prints on it...no one will ever notice.

they gotta have the trademark infinityward power up sound for the power up button right?
i find that tacky too. although scratching shouldn't be an issue since all xbox's will be matte as soon as the glossy ones run out.

so are you guys saying that the Advanced UAV is destroyable like the normal uav in mw2?

was the black bird destroyable?

I am just hoping that the guns have a good "feel" to them. I hated WOW weapons and only really like the Commando on Black Ops. With MW2, I liked using the M4, Scar and ACR. I do use some light machine guns and sub but mostly went with assault. So happy to see the G36C back in MW3.

Juggernaut Recon suit Killstreak gameplay. Looks like it's a bit weak for an 18 point killstreak, but your streak won't reset from dying in this tier, so I guess it makes sense. Riot shield takes two hits. Looks like I won't be running this one, heh.

Also, Prestige Rewards: http://www.imodernwarfare3.com/modern-warfare-3-prestige-rewards-shop/
Yeah, they shouldn't require the use of the riot shield while using it, or make it one bash.

Anyway, do these Prestige Rewards last forever? As in, I prestige once and get double xp for the rest of my prestiges?

I have no idea. I hope not, that'd be too easy.

For me, 10 custom classes is a must. Even that feels like not enough. Hopefully won't have to have a dedicated tube class this time around though. I also want to know what "Unlock Gear" is.

Only being able to use the Riot Shield is pretty bad IMO, although is probably makes it a bit more balanced since if you were able to use a gun Juggernauts would be practically unstoppable. I do agree that its a questionable kill streak for 18 kills, AND you need to call it via care package which I do not love.

10's not enough?!! i was always fine with prestige 6/7 because i had enough custom classes at that point to settle down and liked the emblems better. i always had a sniper class, an m16, a ump, a tar, a running class, an oma class just in case, and usually a trial class or two(usually ARs). although the first prestige or two i had to experiment more to test out all the guns and attachments

I just got back from CoD XP event. Game is really smooth. The Assault/Support/Specialist system works nicely. I didnt really play around with the Special system though. I played for about an hour and a half (Got to the last tier of the MW3 Gauntlet and lost 48-50 on Kill Confirmation.)

I'll be happy to answer some questions about gameplay if anyone wants. I'm not an expert, but I can tell you what you about gameplay, weapons, perks, etc.

Very cool!

1.) Does it actually feel balanced? That's been my gripe with this franchise since day 1.

2.) How are the maps? are they mixed/varied to support different play styles?

3.) How are the graphics in your opinion? Any difference from previous versions?

Thanks!

1.) They only had lvl 30 unlocked, so you could only choose about a 4 of the 8/9 assault rifles (could be be more but forgot). I only messed around with the Assault Kill Streak sets, but they work great. They took out a lot of shit that was in older ones. Last Stand, Commando Pro (Increase melee range) has been taken out. The M16 (Tri-burst) still has some issues from what I can tell, it doesnt feel the same as MW. I used the M4A1 which was the full auto but low damage gun and it seemed to work fairly well. I think almost everyone was running around with the Assault KS, but we had one guy on our team for CTF use a Support class and it was awesome, he specced for Bulletproof vests (You take less damage) and it does make a difference for flag running. There's no more unlimited sprint, there's extended sprint, but no more unlimited. Mobility does make a huge difference on how fast/far you can sprint and how fast/slow you move.

2.) There were only 4 maps, and gamemodes playable. And you had to win at the Gauntlet to get to the higher tier to play the other modes at the event. I was lucky enough to get placed with 2 really good guys and we got the last tier (of 4). So everyone who was in line, played against 4 random people in Tier 1, and if your team won, you would advance to the next tier and play other winning teams.

All of the rounds were timed, so everyone would have equal opportunity playing.

I dont remember the specific names of the map, but I will try to describe them as best I can.
Tier 1 - Team Deathmatch (Train yard map, half the train yard is destroyed with a commuter station)
Tier 2 - Capture the Flag (Sort of an Vacant remake, at least the inside), but the outside was radar dish)
Tier 3 - Domination (Small map, if you saw Knight and Day, the ending of the movie where they are being chased on the motorcycle, the map kinda like that. Reminds me of a paris street ways with cafes and news stands everywhere)
Tier 4 - Kill Confirmation (Big map, jungle style, run down houses/shacks, cave, and waterfall. Think of overgrown from MW and Black Ops Jungle map mixed together)

3.) In the opening ceremony they mentioned 60FPS and how the engine would be able to handle it and how to balance between graphics and quality. Overall, it's very smooth, I didnt notice any type of lag (although we were just playing local private matches vs the other people on the otherside of the screen.)

The new gamemode Kill Confirmed is that when you kill an enemy it drops a dog tag (visible to friendlies as Red, and enemies as Yellow). You score 1 point per Yellow (enemy) dog tag you collect. If a enemy picks up their teammates dog tag, you do not earn a point. It was actually very fun and addicting.

I have to admit, I'm looking forward to this more now after seeing all of this new info. I think they are making a lot of changes and I am hoping they are for the better. I say that with the thought of MW2, WOW and Blops were very similar and most of the differences between them were just the weapons (yes, pretty shortsighted thought, but hey, it's late and I'm old and tired).

Maybe I'm just jaded but I watched the gameplay and the guys talking for Gamespot yesterday, it just seemed like more of the same to me. Then I thought well I guess there's not really too much you can change to make the franchise and experience that new.

I noticed they changed some of the game terms, like instead of care package it's "strike package". The Jugg killstreak looks cool and I'm sure on paper sounded like a good idea, but I don't think I'd ever use that seriously and I feel like based on past COD games, 18 kills is too much just to screw around so I don't see the use for that KS for me personally.

There were some other ones like the strafing run and little bird gunner that sounded interesting, I also wanted to see that drone in action.

I loved COD4 and I loved Battlefield, but I feel like the lines between the 2 are really being blurred what with the similar landscapes and maps and the US against Russia plots. I'll probably end up getting MW3 even though I swore it off, I'm sure friends will get it too.

Dude you made my day! Thanks for the info!

In all honesty, I wasn't looking forward to this game as much as in year's past. After Friday I believed in this franchise again.

did you notice an air support limit? were there constant Support strike pointstreaks in the airR?

Wasnt able to test if there's a limit. I had a harrier in the air at one point but I didnt get enough kills to get another while it was up. The harrier works the same, you call it in and set it to "attack" a spot on the map and it'll kill anyone in it.

hmm, alright.

how does everyone think having claymores/bouncing bettys in the same slot as semtex will affect things? i'm kinda disappointed because i feel like it'll promote a defensive, "camping" style of play in objective modes, like Search, due to having to pick between a grenade and a claymore.

looking to mw2 as an example, i honestly cant see the offense ever winning a game of demolition or search, on estate without grenades due to the house being insanely difficult to infilitrate.

Since blast shield is now a perk and not useless (hopefully), I wouldn't be surprised if many defenders are using it, making using grenades to flush people out or to kill them not as effective.

Hey, thanks for the offer.

Which strike packages did you try and which was your favorite to use?

Which perks did you like the most?

Was it killstreak overkill, or did it seem like things won't be as insane as MW2?

I think splitting "ghost" into assassin and blind eye seems like a great addition. Did it seem like there were far fewer "ghost" users than in your average game of Black Ops?

What was your favorite map, and why?

Congrats on getting the hardened edition for free, btw. After spending $150 on a ticket to COD XP, that must have been wonderful to hear.

[edit] Oh, and I don't think I've read it in this thread, but--for anyone who doesn't already know--destroying enemy air support counts towards your killstreak rewards. Yay!

I was using Assault all the time. I didnt really test out support/specialist since someone else in our group was using it. I was using UAV, Predator Missle, Attack chopper. I wasnt able to get past a 7 KS. I wanted to try stuff past 7, but it wasnt realistic because we were playing 4v4 and got stuck with random people and it's hard to gauge how good they are.

Which perks did you like the most?
I was mainly using Blindeye (Blue) or Sleight of Hand, Quickdraw - Faster Aiming (Red) or, and Stalker, think that's what it was called that made you move faster while aiming (Yellow). I've never been a fan Steady Aim since I'm always aiming.

I can see Assassin (Red) being used more for SnD type matches, but there wasnt any real point to using it for the gamemodes we were playing at the event.

Was it killstreak overkill, or did it seem like things won't be as insane as MW2?
I only messed around with the Assault KS, but it didnt seem like overkill, you just have to make sure the people you play with, there's a nice balance of assault, support, specialist users. Having at least 1 support helped A TON, because their KS dont reset when they die, and they have counter UAV and bulletproof vests for teams to use. It's KS for having a defender class for CTF.

I think splitting "ghost" into assassin and blind eye seems like a great addition. Did it seem like there were far fewer "ghost" users than in your average game of Black Ops?
It was about 50/50 on who was using "ghost" perk(s), but I've always been a fan of "ghost" perk(s) and silencers. Just ask Trakan. Yes, it felt like there were fewer users of it. But I hated Black Ops.

What was your favorite map, and why?
Hard to tell what was my favorite map because of the limited time you could play it (10 minute rounds, unless you lost and didnt make it to the next tier of the gauntlet.) The paris street map was probably my favorite, but like I said before I only got to to play it for 10 minutes on Domination. It's a medium sized map with lots of cover and nice angles.
Congrats on getting the hardened edition for free, btw. After spending $150 on a ticket to COD XP, that must have been wonderful to hear.
I actually won my ticket here on CAG thanks to jimwhat.

I bought a 2nd ticket for my girlfriend though. Definitely worth the experience and since MW3 Hardened edition was announced at $100, thought it was gonna be $80. There were a ton of things to do there besides play MW3. They had a zipline, paintball (based on the scrapyard map), the pit (paintball course based after the put course), and Juggernaut Sumo.

So, how do the support KS counters reset? Is it immediately after getting their third KS? I imagine a good player running low support KS's could spam the shit out of UAV/Counters if they don't have to die to reset a streak.

I'm not sure. I didnt play the support class at all. I would imagine it would work somewhat like that. A lot of KS were tied together though. Here's a list:

Assault Strike Package: These killstreaks stack (you can use one to get another).
3- UAV - shows enemies on the minimap.
4- Care Package - Airdrop a random killstreak or ammo.
5- IMS - The Intelligent Munitions System detects and eliminated enemy combatants.
5- Predator Missile - remote control missile.
5- Sentry Gun - airdrop a placeable Sentry Gun
6- Precision Airstrike - Call in a directional airstrike.
7- Attack Helicopter - call in a support helicopter.
8- Strafe Run - Strafing run of 5 attack helicopters.
9- Little Bird Guard (AH-6 Overwatch) - get personal air support from a Little Bird guardian
9- Reaper - Lase missile targets remotely from the Reaper UAV
10- Assault Drone - Air drop an Assault Drone
12- AC130 - Be the gunner of an AC130
12- Pavelow - Heavily armored assault helicopter.
15- Juggernaut - recieve advanced armor via carepackage.
17- Osprey Gunner - Be the gunner of an Osprey delivering several care packages.

Support Strike Package: These do not reset after you die
4- UAV - Shows enemies on the minimap.
5- Counter UAV - Temporarily disables enemy radar.
5- Ballistics Vests - Deploy a bag of ballistic vests for your team.
5- Airdrop Trap - Kill enemies with a booby-trapped airdrop crate.
8- SAM Turret (Patriot Missile System) - Automated SAM turret that destroys aerial killstreaks.
10- Recon Drone - Control a Recon Drone, targeting enemies for your team.
12- Advanced UAV - Call in a Orbital Recon that shows the direction your enemy is facing.
12- Remote Turret (TALON) - Toss a small turret and remotely control it.
14- Stealth Bomber - Airstrike undetectable on enemy maps.
18- EMP - Temporarily disables enemy electronics.
18- Juggernaut Recon - receive advanced armor via care package. (Riot Shield & Radar)
18- Escort Airdrop - An Osprey delivers and defends several care packages.

Specialist Strike Package:
2- Extra Perk of your choice
4- Extra Perk of your choice
6- Extra Perk of your choice

I see, didn't notice that UAV is 4 and Counter is 5. Thought a good build might have been UAV, Counter and Ballistics, but that's obviously not possible now.

With the fastest setup you could do needing an 8 KS, it seems nicely balanced against what I was talking about.

BTW, did you see the SAM turret? Is it harder to destroy than a single knife-swipe? If it's like the one from Blops, that's horribly underpowered for an 8 KS.

Since your streak doesn't reset if you die, nothing in Support will be underpowered. If anything the tier will be too good. The fact that there are for the most part no lethal killstreaks in the tier will help balance it out though. All the random retards will want to run Assault.

For example, imagine spawning in the game. You take A flag, you run and take B flag, and you kill one guy at B. That's 3 points already, almost halfway to that sam turret. You can die and still get it. In Black Ops, you'd be at a 1 killstreak, you'd only need 3 more kills, and you wouldn't be able to die and still get it.

Found more footage. You can actually get killed by shooting a riot shield now.

Shit, this game is gonna be awesome. I didn't play Black Ops nearly as much as I played MW1 and 2. I really like the look of the Support killstreaks, since I usually only play on a team with friends, I'll roll with that.

Oh so support get's streaks from kills AND assists?

I thought it was just assists like capturing headquarters and flags.

I was wondering how support would work in TDM.

I'd probably mostly run with support, especially since my load-out in Black Ops was UAV, Counter UAV and Blackbird.
Oh so support get's streaks from kills AND assists?

I thought it was just assists like capturing headquarters and flags.

Every tier gets streaks from kills and objectives. Hardline Pro is 2 assists = 1 kill. That's the only way you'll get streaks from assists. Support is the only tier where you can die and it won't break your streak.

Any idea if hardline effects the specialists perk gains? IE more perks with less kills?

Can we set up separate killstreaks/strije packages for each class we build?
I actually won my ticket here on CAG thanks to jimwhat.

I bought a 2nd ticket for my girlfriend though. Definitely worth the experience and since MW3 Hardened edition was announced at $100, thought it was gonna be $80.
So you'll be getting TWO hardened editions, then? That's awesome. :)

And thanks for the replies.
By assists I meant objectives, but thanks for clearing that up ;)
I've never heard an objective referred to as an assist.

I would assume Hardline works for the Specialist class, I don't see why it wouldn't. I did see that you choose your strike package streaks inside the create a class menu itself now, so I'm thinking that you can finally assign packages to each class.

Thanks, both of those would open up lots if tactical options if true.

The reason I wonder about the specialists with hardline is wouldn't that mean 1 kill gives a new perk? Then 3 5 and all perks at 7? Hardline instantly becomes a lot cooler!
