Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow -- Info & General Discussion

As long as the framerate is constant, I'm OK. I don't need to have 60 fps, even though it's nice to have.

I'm not canceling my pre-order, but I'm really hoping this is as good as GOW 3. I was kind of left wanting more since GOW 3 was only like 12 hours or so.

It's...pretty constant. It's not 30 fps though. More like...24fps. It's sort of a hard game to look at/play.

i like it alot. yeah they borrwed alot from gow and he way hes dressed he looks like a character in assasins creed but the demo is fun. now i wonder if the game will have dlc because if it does ill just wait till they releases a goty edition. i like the way they set up the dodge mechanic too with that leaving the right stick free hopefully youll have a better camera than you get in gow games.
This maybe the best effort in that realm, but I'm still more eager to hear about new 2D one on the 3DS.
Same here, and I still play OoE despite maxing out everything.

Well it is easier to take the safe route for now borrowing from GoW. Hopefully afterwards, it will give room for more experimentation in the next iteration to be separated from other BMs.

Played the demo and I loved it. It kind of felt like GoW, except his whip didn't seem incredibly weak like Kratos blades do in GoW.

I've liked the character design since it was announced. When he was riding the horse though, I couldn't help but think it all looked like a more serious take on Darksiders.

Really interested in this, especially since I skipped GoW 3. Too bad all the games I like can't be played in front of my toddler :(

So, er, it's confirmed that only Best Buy's version is going to have the SotN packed in? Or every copy of Lord of Shadow has it?

Reaaaaaaaaaaally. . .first I've heard of that. Might have to return my Amazon copy. . .

I read a little about it- basically sounds like you just get a PSN / XBL voucher to download it off the store.

I thought everyone already had this- especially after last weeks sale.
is it a physical copy or just a download?
I believe it's a download... The pre-order cases from Best Buy states that the SotN game is inside of the actual Lord of Shadow game.

From my experience with Prince of Persia:TFS, the BB exclusive Wraith skin is packed inside the game. The game has BB exclusive marking on it (not just a sticker, it's printed on the cover art).

So, I'm thinking that BB's copy of Lord of Shadow is going to be something similar, a printed message saying SotN is inside... Not sure this is BB exclusive, but from the sound of it, it is...

Well, I made up my mind with K-mart's gaming coupon, so I don't really care. Worse comes to worse, sell the K-mart copy after done with it and get the BB copy when the price drops (if they still have the first printings though, I don't think the 2nd presses will have the added bonuses).

Bah, nevermind. I hate it when they do that.

Yeah  Same here... I was trying to scratch the marking off and only to realize that it was an actual print. So not cool, it totally ruins the cover art.

I can't firgure out these reviews. They give it a 7.5 (gamespot and IGN) and say that it takes from other games and has no originality but then say that it is a really cool game, but then say they would rather play a 2D Castlevania. Can't they make up their mind.

People get unnecessarily worked up over GoW clones. I mean, it's a genre at this point. People don't get upset when new fighting games, FPS, Action/RPGs, etc.

The presentation and story in this game appears to be a lot different than GoW.

eh in the end i think its going to do ok. yeah it borrows alot but in a way that works. theres been plenty of shitty gow clones out there that fail this game will stand out once word of mouth spreads.

They're bitching about it not being Castlevania in spirit, but that's what a reboot is about. Then they make too many comparisons to GOW, which is not what a good reviewer should be doing. Bottom line is the game has legs and all these freezing complaints are apparently associated with review code only. The guy even says in the video review that he liked the combat pacing, but in the final notes it said dull combat rofl. I think IGN gave Spiderman a higher score, which goes to show these reviewers are just idiots.

Yeah, the IGN reviewer couldnt get over the fact it wasn't a 2D Castlevania and since it had the name it cant be good if it isn't in 2D. What I got out of his review is that it is a very good game if you aren't a Castlevania nutcase. I love Castlevania, but the damn game doesnt have to be 2D just because of the name. The demo was a blast to me.

Apparently the PS3 version has no install. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

There are a lot of different Castlevania games. Most of them have been Metroidvanias, but some are side-scrollers. My impression is we're getting a 3D version of the latter, but with a Chapter select.

^ Well, I thought the PS3 was the lead dev console, so maybe that's why there would be no install for the PS3 version. I'm really hoping that the demo you played with the low framerate is from an older build...

I thought it was the demo from E3.
Could a patch fix the framerate?
David Cox (Producer) has addressed these issues. Some of the reviews that mentioned the framerate issues were pre-gold builds of the game, not the final gold retail build...not to mention the demo itself is the same E3 demo, so it's even older than the pre-gold review build.

He stated that the final gold build has a consistent framerate. This has been corroborated by some people that already have the game (PS3) due to some early releases in the New York and New Jersey areas.

Good thing for people that need space heh

Played through the demo, and while it seems nice enough, there's nothing on there that would make me want to purchase on day 1.
Nice graphics, and decent enough combat. Definitely doesn't feel like Castlevania, and does not distinguish itself enough from other games in the same category.

Well, GameTrailers.com gave it a 7.9/10 and the User Rating is a 9.4. I was really hoping this would be GOW III material. Let's hope the GT.com review is lower points because of unoriginality or something, and not because of gameplay or anything.

And I can't watch the &#^@ review because I'm late for work and iTunes won't let me download it (has some error, which is usual for GT.com for some reason). :(
konami didnt throw ad money at ign for the game so ign docked it points. that website is worthless.
Well, they feel that Enslaved is a better game even though they slam it for wonky controls and a lot of the same complaints for framerate. I think if Lords of Shadow had released sans Castlevania in the title, it would've got a higher review from IGN.

More review sites should do a seperate, weekly review of all games based on what's being released that week and what else has come out recently / is coming out soon.

That way they could focus on things like "Dante's Inferno is ok- but it's coming out so close to God of War 3 that you may want to save your money", or "Enslaved and Castlevania are both great- but if you have to chose get this one".

The kind of stuff that shouldn't be mentioned in reviews- but really should be said somewhere.

God of war clones don't exist. God of War is a devil may cry clone without cool guns.
I am gonna wait for Metal Gear Rising and the Last Guardian and just play out rdr and turismo while i wait.

You are absolutely right. The IGN reviewer just couldnt get over the name. He never really goes into detail about anything other than "it isnt Castlevania".

you cant really generalize in saying "they think enslaved is better" cuz it was two separate reviewers with two separate opinions. if that daemon guy reviewed both, comparing the scores would have much more weight.

Both Enslaved and C:LoS look underwhelming to me, and I'm a big fan of their concepts.

As for the review scores, they don't mean anything. The system is so messed up right now you can't really take those seriously.

Yeah, I'm so sick and tired of reviewers deducting points for fun games that don't have any major issues, yet they deviate too far from previous versions in a franchise.

I don't think it's a big deal. GT gave it a slightly higher score but had some complaints about it. The game isn't perfect and the reviewer enjoyed it probably less than you will. Oh well, get over it and just enjoy the game.
I really like the demo. I'm definitely keeping my preorder.
Me too.

Once I pre-order it. :p

Yeah, I'm still stoked for the game, even though it has some low scores. Lots of 8's and 9s. I got to get my butt in gear and platinum Demon's Souls this weekend so I can play it when I get it in the mail.

Of course you are right, not a big deal what other people say. Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got 'em!
1up gave it a B. They said there are some obvious issues with it.
Yeah, this Tuesday is pretty much pick your poison. Chinese or Transylvanian mythology lol.

It reminds me a bit of Lammnent of Innocence on PS2 which got mixed reviews. That was a game I REALLY liked. Didn't care for Curse of Darkness though.

i liked the ps2 games never got to play the second one though been trying to find both of them on the cheap complete.

Ha, I played through both and I liked CoD much better than LoI. I don't think too many other people liked CoD, though. I just enjoyed the devil-raising aspect once I gave it a chance. Also, it has a kick-ass soundtrack.

I keep trying to find more info on the Limited Edition that is coming out to no avail. Even the Konami site estimates the sizes of the items in the LE.
Played the demo. Game was boring and just felt like dantes inferno, only not as pretty. Passing on this
So wait, you think Dante looked better or C: LOS looks better?
Played the demo. Game was boring and just felt like dantes inferno, only not as pretty. Passing on this
Hmm, while I wasn't thrilled by the demo, I think it looks and plays better than Dante's Inferno. To each his opinion, but while reviewers haven't been kind, none were complaining about the game being ugly.

you must have played some super secret special edition of dantes inferno because from what i saw of the game it looked shitty imo.
