Changes to Wii Sports?

Well crap. In Feb I ordered a couple Wii Sports from GS for $9.99 each. One was the "old" version and one was the "new" one. I sold the older version and kept the new one. About once out of every 5 plays or so I would get an error where my Wii would not read the disc. The disc looks like GS resurfaced it. Earlier this week I updated the Wii firmware to 4.0 and now the damn disc won't play at all.

I've popped all of my other games in and they work fine. Now I'm stuck because GS only covers the disc for 30 days if I'm not mistaken. Of course I called Nintendo support and they said the firmware and the errors are not related...
 
Well the copy of Wii Sports I bought from Gamestop (disc looks resurfaced) stopped loading once I updated to the latest firmware version. I called Nintendo and ordered a replacement copy for $15 + shipping. The one they sent me was "Version 2" with the updated features.
