Fernando Rocker
I just hit up Sears today and thought I had EPIC luck, but I didn't.

I saw sealed Persona 3 for the PS2 in the back of their plastic prison. The game was released with an artbook and CD, and it's freaking Persona! I asked the guy to take it out so I could have a look, but there was this giant 49.99 tag on the front.. overlapping the name. Dunno who the genius was that did that.

The guy asked me when it came out, I said it was 2006 or 2007. He then took it back to the register and price checked it saying, "49.99 couldn't be right."

Sadly, it was correct :(. No Sealed Persona 3 for me -- hell, not even a complete one.
That is one lucky find. Most Sears dont carry PS2 games anymore.
If it was sitting for so long, shouldnt it drop?Things go on clearance cause
need to make room for newer games. This is why Sears was going out of business until came Kmart purchase it in 2004.
I would keep a eye on it just in case they do drop the price.

I've been watching one for 3 years now @ Sears. It still hasn't dropped. Actually I think another CAG finally bought it.

Kind of a long shot, but has anyone seen the Gran Turismo 5 Collector's Edition for less than $80? I've been seeing a few in local Gamestops but all still ring up for almost full price.

Target had them on clearance a short while ago, but it was very YMMV. I never saw ANY at any of the NEOH targets. :(

Because they didn't clearance out their games fast enough? Didn't know clearance games brought any profit.

I saw 3 sealed at the same price last week lol

they don't bring profit, but they do bring in money, which is better than nothing. If you have 10 copies of a game, most of the time they don't need to sell all of them to cover costs and after that it's all profits. So say they sold 9 copies and had one sit for a year. Why not clearance and get rid of it if you've already covered costs?

Do you know the cost structure of videogame software for big box retailers? No.

Do you know whether the sales volume of Persona was profitable given the cost structure you have no clue about? No and most likely, no, it was probably not profitable given the niche audience.

Do you know whether Sears is in such dire cash need straits that they need to clearance all their games ASAP to generate some infinitesimal cash amount relative to their overall cash flow? No.

Did you know clearancing products results in accounting losses, as they would have to write off higher priced inventory cost bases they had previously capitalized on their balance sheet, that executives generally cares "much" more about than cash inflows? 99.9% most likely not.

Did you completely miss the fact that my initial post was primarily to point out that it was absolutely stupid to assume clearancing games had "anything" do with Sears' systematic decline from the king of the retail space since the early 80s? Hell yeah.

Wow dude you need to fucking chill. What he said made sense. If they sell 9 and have a solid profit, even if they have one left and sell it, it's free money. A store wouldn't hinges their profits margin on one copy of one title. Think about what you say dude.

Remember that games over time depreciate. For instance, if a game depreciates $10 every 6 months, then two years in, it should be $20 or so. If it is clearanced a year in for $40, it helps two-fold. 1 - shelf space is expensive so freeing space has a value. 2 - The longer a game is held onto, the less value it retains. So putting them on clearance early can maximize revenue. Remember that products are a sunk cost. They already bought the game. The selling process is the means to recoup and then some the money paid for the product. After enough time passes, a store has to cut it's losses to make their next product investment. Cash flow is very important to any company.

If you look at Target, they do a very good job of balancing this. That thought process applied to all products is why Target is such a successful brand.

Hell yeah.
Atari Press Release Info

From IGN:
"The bonus bits here offer a nice sense of presentation, as users are made to feel apart of the world that Trane inhabits. The whole package comes in a tidy tin box. There's a real black book that has around 40 pages of color images that show various illustrations used through-out the development of the game. If you were as fond of the soundtrack as I was, you can take it with you in the car in CD form. The DVD is also a nice touch, giving users a quick history lesson about real graffiti. And if Trane's exploits in the game finds a way to inspire the tagger that lives in you, there's a silver sharpie pen here, ready and waiting to help start your artistic career. "

Looks Like a Decent Game and comes in a metal case with soundtrack.

Looks like a mash-up of GTA-Infamous-Dead Rising
For some reason, I thought it was universally panned when it was released, but looking at the reviews now, it's pretty well liked. Must of been thinking of something else.

Thanks for the tip.

From amazon, some more about the stuff you get:

...You get a nice Getting Up tin case, of course the game, the Hybrid Disc feat. videos/films: a collection of short films on the history of graf writing and the disc also includes a music CD produced by Mark Ecko and Puffy. You also get a Getting Up silver Sharpie marker, and a Mark Ecko blackbook with extra content on the game and several empty pages to fill up with your own.
from amazon:
That information is in my post and in much shorter form, but if your intention is the review itself...you should note he gave it 5 stars...

EDIT - Nevermind...you shortened that wall of text :)
IGN stated a DVD is included as well...

Actually I just noticed that you did in fact list the other contents. Pretty sure at first you just said steelbook or whatever.

I did...was looking for the info too as the Amazon review wasn't the full contents.

I have the Getting Up LE for XBox.. I like it a lot.. never really used anything with it. The silver sharpie was pretty cool bc I don't think they sold silver sharpies at the time it came out. The game's not too bad, either

I think he did...I found this thread on page 5!

You may have just invited him to continue though...
I found some nice photos of the contents and case and came across this website:

CollectorsEditions.org

Seems like a pretty awesome site for this thread...
Like most sites, they fail to recognize the Counter-Strike limited edition for the original XBox. It was extremely limited and the only difference was a raised numbered litho, but still, it does say collector's edition. I think they were only numbered to 10K. Mine's somewhere in the 8K range.

I don't think it is a complete listing.
You should submit it to them, I believe that's what they rely on.

Saw 3 Fallout 3 CEs for PS3 at Walmart tonight for $30/ea.

Inventory said they had 3 360 copies too, but there was no given location in the system for them. :(

Heard this mentioned a few times but finding them around here has been impossible at any store. $30 is about my price too

That's because it's not an actual limited edition/separate SKU. If you pre-ordered the game at a physical Gamestop location, and picked it up in person they handed you the separate limited edition insert in a little wax paper sleeve. The actual game you got was still the same old regular edition.

Can you share the inventory link? I want it for pc > 360 > ps3 in that order of preference. Sorry if I overlooked it.

There is no inventory link. I had them look it up in store via the UPC.

Funny, i just picked one up a few hours ago and was looking for a place to post this. I asked a Gamestop employee to price check the Zombrex ed earlier(ps3 btw), and it somehow came up as a used copy of the regular game. He tried again(i know this time he scanned the upc) and the same thing. He laughed and said grats, and rang me up for 34.99(-10%).

I'd say give it a go if you have one nearby. I looked it up when i got home and there seemed to be at least 3 more stores in driving distance with a copy(it shows up $49.99 on site) Its not the cheapest LE ever, but i really love the contents.
I saw a used copy today of the Zombrex at GS too. It was in the glass case behind the counter.
The one i bought was sealed. It may have been a fluke, but he did ring it up twice, and not from a sticker as it had none. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not. I'm sure it rang up used because i got my edge discount, and $34.99 is the price of the standard edition.

im not sure what the deal is with the Dead rising 2. I checked 3 gamestops today while i was out and about and all had copies and it was 49.99 at all of them. One guy mentioned it was on sale a while back, maybe thats what you found. He said when its converted to used its store wide so theres no reason it would be at one store or another. Really dont know what the deal is. I grabbed one at 50 bucks but i think i may return it

I DID however find a copy of record of Agarest war naughty edition in VERY good shape. ive never seen one that was completely uncrushed. The box is garbage, but one store had a copy with just a tiny dent on the top right so i bought it. It was only 30 bucks too! There were copies at the other stores too but they looked like a truck had run them over

As far as Dead rising goes im not sure what to do. I guess i'll keep watching amazon for it to hit around 30 bucks again? Im assuming i'll find a better deal than 50 at least, right?

I have seen the DR 2 CE as low as $34.99 so you might luck out finding it cheaper. If you don't mind the $49.99 price then just keep it. If this Black Friday this year is anything like last years then: LET THE PRICES FALL!

Wait, by any chance do you know if it was marked as new or used? Two stores around me have it and might pick it up if it's $30.

almost positive it was marked new, not used. Make sure you go look at them. odds are you wont find a perfect one but some of the smashed ones are REALLY smashed. Its one of the worst packages ever. ITs a very thin wall box with no support in it at all and a bunch of soft cloth extras inside. The mouspad and pillow case can actually expand out if its layed wrong and crush the sides even more

as for the dead rising thing.. hmm i may just return it then, its not like im super stoked to play it anyway. Just looked like a cool CE

You brought the Record of Agarest War LE for $30 NEW? It shows $40 online. Could you please confirm, I'm going in to find me one.

Thanks!

I bought my CE of Dead Rising 2 at GS for $30 so it should be that way everywhere as it was converted. I say $50 is too high as I bet there are still a lot out there. Also if you sayyou dont even want to play it then its definately not worth $50. Although I will say I loved the game.

Hey, quick question... how was that giant brochure included? I got a used copy off of a trade and it was just folded twice (into a nice little rectangle) and placed inside the box. Is that how it's really supposed to be?

Yeah man, it was folded into a square in the box. Mine was new and sealed and I remember someone else from that old thread saying theirs was the same way. So I am sure they all are like that.

sorry, it was actually 40 bucks. I remember my total was like 50 dolars which made me think it was only 30, but the other stuff i bought was just really cheap (eyetoy 2.00, and a couple cheap games)

thats still a killer price if you find one in decent condtion though, it goes for around 80 bucks new online

@ Dead rising 2.. i really dont get it. if it is converted to used, shouldnt that be the case everywhere? why is it coming up 50 bucks everywhere? maybe you guys got actual used copies? I dont think i'm gonna keep it at that price, i wish i could get it for 35. I dont get the discrepancy here
