ChromeHounds - Gen. Discussion & Info

I apologize to all the new members as well as the regulars. Marvel is going to take my time away from this game as well as the upcoming F.E.A.R. next week, followed by Gears of War, Viva Pinata, Fuzion Frenzy (if it wasn't delayed), and Rainbow Six: Vegas, and If I ever get to it, King Kong and Splinter Cell.

well you suck Link. We kickes ass today and I got two more achievments. I hope to be done with Lego Star Wars 2 next week so I can rent Marvel and buy Gears of War on the 8th.

I could understand the other games, but Fuzion Frenzy?

Sorry about the last mission tonight. I wasn't aware of the COMBAS captures. Can't believe I waited this long to get this game. It's a whole lotta fun.

I'm not quiting, I still love the game and would like to get in a few matches here or there. Just saying, I might not be there every Tuesday/Thursday. Fuzion Frenzy one was awesome, can't wait for the sequel.

Agreed, Fuzion Frenzy 1 was amazing to play with a couple of people, but the FF2 demo from TGS really didn't seem that great to me. The flamethrower games were horrible, but Sumo is still up there as my 2nd favorite, right after the Jump/Duck corkscrew one.

I felt the same, way, but you gotta remember, you're not getting the LIVE experience. That will definately add to the whole atmosphere of the game.

Steve sorry for not playing with you on Tuesday and Thursday but I got a group of friends and we are playing through Marvel Alliance. I will still be playing this and I will try to make some time next week to play.

I'll probably be playing tonight. This is really the only game I'm going to play until Gears of War and the myriad of November releases.

Man, I lost about three hours tonight tinkering with my various hounds and trying them out. Also, I've been wondering about a few things:

1. Does having a radiator help?
2. Are the missile counter and shield accessories worthwhile?
3. What about the accessories that let you ascend and glide, are they any good?
4. What is the most important place to protect your hound with armor, the cockpit? Does anyone have a good set-up for shielding the cockpit?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I'd like more info on number 4 as well. I kept getting destroyed in that level we played on Thursday. First it was my weapons then boom, I was dead.

The cockpit is definitely the most important. Once that goes your done. You can still survive without a Generator you just won't move very fast, if at all. If placed properly and with the use of a spacer and other random parts you can completely surround your cockpit. It won't be indestructable but it sure helps you stay alive longer. Now doingthis will make you heavier and you will not be able to carry as many guns so you really have to spend a lot of time and figure out the best ratio for you.

1) Yes. when you get hit with any weapons that use incendiary ammo, a radiator will stop you from getting burn damage.

2) Missile Counters are of better use in matches versus real people. Shields are useful all the time.

3) The gyro accessory is only good on levels with alot of cliffs.

4) Shield anything that you always feel gets taken out or damaged alot. I agree with what was said above.

I always use a radiator.

I love missle counters. I use them whenever possible. At least with a medium to slow speed Hound. If you have a scout that runs at 245 or something then no it's not needed.

I never use the gyros so I can't help there.

keep grouped weapons close to each other physically on the hound. It helps accuracy. Spacers are dead weight, so only use them when you absolutelly have to. Dont add nightvision or heatvision unless you are walking into an adverse weather condition map. its dead weight otherwise.

1. Radiators are best for protecting against incendiary - reduces or stops extra damage to your generator by fire. Also, a small benefit is a radiator can make you harder to spot by thermal vision - rarely useful though.

2. Missile counters are good when you know you're going to face missle mechs but the trade-off is when there are no missle mechs, you're still stuck with the extra weight/power of the counter when it might have been better used on something else. You might be better off either having enough speed to dodge some shots or recognizing missle mechs early enough to stay out of range. A note when using counters is that it's best to have them pointed straight up (chromehounds defaults stuff to face forward if it can, which is useless.)

Shields are the best accessory and with some experience, you'll see that most good mech designs have the cockpit covered in front and/or to the sides - a strong shield will double the strength(or more) of almost any cockpit except for a few, super heavy morskoi models.

3. Hovering is pretty worthless except for a few maps with a ton of cliffs/dead ends. Even then, they're limited since they only let you go DOWN a cliff without taking damage (you turn them on just before landing) - they don't give enough boost for you to go UP any cliffs unfortunately. Really more of a gimmick but can be fun once in a great while. Since they're so rarely used, people think you're glitching or something when they see you floating. :)

4. The cockpit is by far the best place to protect with armor - as it's been pointed out, you can lose everything else and still be in the fight. If you leave it exposed, you're just asking to get taken out in 1-2 shots. The most common way you protect it is by using a spacer (an example - take some legs, put the cockpit on, then the generator directly above it. On the front of the generator put on the angled spacer and point it down so it gets in front of the cockpit. Then slap some armor (the bigger, the better usually) on the spacer and you have both you cockpit and generator covered from the front. There's endless variations on this and when you're fighting battles, always be on the lookout for good mechs, then borrow their design.

Hope this helps

Is there anymore room in the Hostile CAGS? Our longtime squad finally broke up when the still full-time players formed a new one. I don't play quite so much anymore so a tuesday/thursday meeting would be perfect. I'm an OK player (Captain rank) and as a bonus, I don't need any lottery parts so won't take up any spots. :)

Good games tonight, guys. My mechs totally suck. Two to three hits from the Wonderbread Squad had me out. I need to buy some better parts.

Are the parts in the store tied to an in-game calendar (switch out after a certain number of days), or is it dependant on your ranking? Might explain why I have so few (good) parts to choose from.

All parts in the store are available to everyone in that specific nation. We are currently Tarakia, so we get Tarakian parts. In the Special parts section, you can get experimental parts (which are ussually variants of normal parts souped up) and random parts from the other nations. Buy a bunch of every part. Just buy everything. Hopefully Ramo can move us to another nation soon, we have been Tarakia forever and I think the new guys could use some different parts.

I'll go shopping for a bit tomorrow for all the parts.

I actually planned on doing the last war but I waited to make sure Steve got in. Has this war ended yet? If so I'll change to Morskoj tonight so you guys can get some heavier firepower.

I was just at BB and they had a demo of Cromehounds and got to tell you my mouth was wide open the entire time I was playing, I couldn't even hear my wife telling me to look for a movie.........

Please anyone, tell me where can I find a deal on this game to join you in the action.

Thanks

So are we moving/merging HOSTILE CAG into Gears of War? That was a blast last night. Maybe we should create a HOSTILE CAG thread where we all meet up and schedule weekly events with times and such, or we could continue to use this thread. Anyways, I said I would be on tonight (GoW), but I might have spoken too soon, I may be there but around 10pm PST.

First off, I hadn't mentioned it but I changed the nation this past weekend. We are now a affiliated with Morskoj. They have heavier but way more powerful weapons. Buy up whatever you can.

Second, I don't know how much I will be playing Chromehounds which I haven't been on much in the last week or so anyway and I apologize to the newer members. But I do want to revisit it periodically and maybe try for those harder to get Achievements. But I will be playing GoW mostly and woud like the Squad or Clan to keep playing together. I'm sure most of us will be getting it or have done so already as some of us had some great games last night.

I don't know what you guys want to do though. Do most of you in the ChromeHounds squad want to have this thread strictly for CH or have it as a mixing place to set up Squad times for both games? Let me know what you guys think and I'm sure we'll have some fun either way.

That's what Im saying....Since most of us pretty much know each other already, I say we just stick together as HOSTILE CAG into GoW, R6: Vegas, and whatever other games anyone wants to play.

I know that's what you're saying but I was asking the other members.

I don't know if they want to keep this thread strictly CH or not.

Hostile Cogs FTW!!!!

I'm half asleep still. Reading back into it, it was redundant of me. :whistle2:#

you know Im down for sticking together, but Id hate to make another thread reserved just for us. I say we keep this 'our' thread. Of course all Cags (Cogs), Hostile or not, are still free to roll with us and use the thread.

I think that the highlight of last night was having Big Mes and Toper playing with us together at the same time. That was a big shocker  glad to know that the problem only lies within CH.

That's a good idea...I'd much rather play with you guys in ANY game than random folks.

Let's continue to use this thread to post meetup times...maybe we can designate specific games for specific nites on a weekly basis. For example, the rest of this week would look like this:

Thurs: GOW
Fri: GOW
Sat: GOW

:)

WOW, that was UNBELIEVABLE! It was nice to finally "meet" Big Mes online...I thought the universe was going to implode after I saw him come into the room, lol!
