I'm wandering how my gems people have missed and if they always seek those must-have titles, as in classics. Just today I finished up Halo for the first time (which of course doubled as the first shooter I beat) and really enjoyed it and see where everyone is getting at with all the praise (well at least for the first one).

I'm sure there is something to talk about...certain games in your backlog, how you've never played so-and-so for less than 5 minutes even though you heard it was so great, or something else.

Go ahead, rant. :whistle2:#

I have SMT: Nocturne, Final Fantasy Tactics: WotL, Final Fantasy X, Earthbound, Zelda: Wind Waker, and Pokemon Pearl... I have yet to finish, or even begin any of those games. :bomb:
I've never played Shadow of the Colossus, and incidentally I gave up on ICO after about an hour.
I still need to complete those games as well...

lack of time or lack of desire?
lack of time or lack of desire?
A combination of both, but mostly a lack of time... Work/School keeps me really busy, and when I'm not busy, I would most rather relax than play a game.

I don't think I could consider anything a classic unless it was at least from the PS1/N64 era. PS2/GC/XB are just last gen. But I dunno, that's just me.:whistle2:?

I'm not listing anything either way... there's too many damn games that I've missed.

I feel the same way, even though some of the games I've listed are what I would consider 'new school'. Other than Earthbound, I've completed all the SNES/N64/PSX games from my childhood, since I did have the time to play 'em! ;)

My Classics definition: Before Dreamcast

Not played
Earthbound
Castlevania III

Haven't beaten
Final Fantasy 4, 6, 7
Blaster Master

No thoughts of
Final Fantasy 5, 8, 9

Can't really think of anything else right now.

Earthbound. Commence hazing.

Seriously, I never owned an SNES when I was a kid because my parents wouldn't let me for whatever reason. So most of my SNES play has been through friends, borrowing their consoles, or remakes/VC.

Eternal Darkness and RE4. I am a HUGE pussy when it comes to horror games. Horror movies? No problem. But horror games? Never get through 'em.

There was a guy in the "recommend Wii games" thread a couple of days ago who asked for a list of top Wii games. After I provided him with the standard list, he responded by asking "What's Zelda? And what's Metroid?"

Man, I am with you on that..When I first bought my Wii..got RE4 to go with it.

I get up and am like, this should be really cool, so I turn off all the lights and up the surround sound to about level 60.

First 20 minutes...when the Chainsaw guys start coming after you in the first village...shooot..I almost had to change my pants. Hella fun though, heartbeat must have been in the 180's or so.
I'm starting Jet Force Gemini on N64.
Good, one of the best games I've ever played

Zelda: Majora's Mask - the time and resetting notion pissed me off, but I would like to finish it someday
Viewtiful Joe 1 PS2 - I reached the ship level that rotates and gave up due to boredom.
Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising - couldn't find the time to complete this cool game
Sin & Punishment (N64 import) - I started but couldn't finish since I lost my adaptor and I'd rather not bust the cartridge to fit it into my US N64. I'll get a new adaptor soon.
Soul Calibur III - I owned everything in SC2. Didnt try the Chronicles mode in SC3 and didn't play the game much.
Futurama PS2 - started, but gave up. I really want to play again someday. Not sure if this qualifies as a classic, but it's only sought-after because it's rare, really.
I've never played a Final Fantasy game.
Worst/most overhyped RPG franchise. They have a penchant for terrible plot lines and overly pretty boys. Haven't been able to finish one since FF7 from boredom. Played nearly every RPG released state side since the NES. I'd recommend Suikoden/Grandia/Dragon Quest for people interested in the genre.

Lately I've been rounding up all the shooters I've missed like Salamander, Donpachi, etc. RPGs, shmups and Nintendo is all there is.

I'm ashamed to admit I have never played past the first hour of Half Life 1, the worst part is I am a huge fan and always highly recommend Half Life 2 to people. I am planning on waiting for the Black Mesa mod (HL2 graphics in HL1), but who knows if that will ever come out.

I've also never played Starcraft.

Never played Final Fantasy 7 although 6 is one of my all-time favs. After playing half of 8, I decided I was pretty much done with the series. My god, what a terrible mess of a game that was... I actually stopped gaming for like half a year afterwards mostly because of that one damn game.

I'm not a huge FPS fan (in fact I dislike them) but I just finished Half-Life 2 and loved it.

I am seriously crying as I read these posts. Never played a zelda or final fantasy game? missing out- big time. Never played anything on the SNES? dissapointing

Just pokemon ruby for me

If I remember correctly, you can download Sin & Punishment through the VC on your Wii.

I feel the same about VJ.. I tried to get into it (love cel-shaded art games) and it was just not fun.

The early FFs.

I've played a few of them, but for the most part I just find them too basic and dated in every aspect possible from presentation/story to gameplay/graphics.

I might have enjoyed them if I played them when they came out, or played them again with nostalgia...but unfortunately that's not the case with me.

With that said, I like the newer FFs for the most part.

Believe it or not... those two games probably did more to give me enough courage to play anything scary. Horror movies still scare the shit out of me but I can now handle some mildly scary games now (like FEAR).

Sonic Adventure
Metroid Zero/Fusion/Primes
Ristar/Kid Chameleon
Super Mario Bros. 1/2/3

Any rpgs on Ps1, or in general.

RE1, 3 and 4. i really never got to finished them. the only game that i got tired of was nemesis, i didnt think it lived up to RE2.. with RE4 i think i got stuck somewhere and gave up for awhile. i realized i had the gamecube on pause for a whole month before turning it off lol.

digital devil saga 1 and nocturne. 2 of the games i really want to play but just dont have the time to finish through. i played until i could but i would love to finish them.

odin sphere.. very good game and a very short game.. but i never got to finish it because the game wasnt mine :(

shadow of the colossus.. really great game but never got to finish. i did finish ICO.

See, there are two things that get me with horror games. First, it's the camera. The horrible, restrictive camera. Not being able to pan around or see anything save for what the developers decided I should see scares me. Less of a factor in RE4 than in ED, but it's still certainly claustrophobic.

The other thing that gets me is the knowledge that all those scary things - the zombie going through the window, the burning ganado emerging from the oven - is triggered by my progress. When it's a movie, I'm a passive observer. When I'm playing, I'm bringing it all on myself.

Starcraft/World of Warcraft
Linking Starcraft and Warcraft is a sin in the eyes of most SC players. As the Protoss Scout/Praetor Artanis said, "This is not Warcraft in space! It's much more sophisticated! I know it's not 3D!"

Linking Starcraft and World of Warcraft, however? An abomination unto the LORD.

I have tried starting

Zelda games (all of them) and gotten incredibly bored.

Have never finished FF 7 (playing it now though!)

Castlevania (SOTN) about 4 times and always end up swearing and turning it off. I hate that game.

Starcraft - and hate it.

I have *never* played a Madden game.

oo...my bad, Warcraft and Starcraft - the two strategy games in different setttings vs. the role-playing game that nearly everyone in the world plays now, guess Warcraft should be on there too

I have a Chrono Trigger SNES cart that I've only put a half hour into.

I own but have never beaten Super Metroid, but I have put a lot of time into it.

I just got around to playing Legend of Zelda Ocarina and I can't see in any way why people prefer it over the 2d ones...? I can't even consider the 2d and 3d ones to be the same series anymore.

Classic to me means games that should be played that stand the test of time. Now on with my list:

Legend of Zelda (NES) - I haven't played either NES Zelda, played all the others
Chrono Trigger (SNES) - Played for an hour, huge time investment I don't have
Super Metroid (SNES) - Played for a bit and got stuck, haven't played since
Earthbound (SNES) - I haven't played, I feel ashamed to admit this
Final Fantasy III (SNES) - Haven't played, I haven't had the time available
Resident Evil 2 (PSX) - I didn't beat the first one until it was rereleased on Cube

Games that I don't quite consider classics yet that I feel I should play:

Final Fantasy X (PS2) - Started, stopped 8 hours in about 5 years ago lol
Ico/Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Have them, haven't played them
Kingdom Hearts 2 (PS2) - Kingdom Hearts is my #2 game of all time, I'm afraid to have my perception changed if this one sucks
Ninja Gaiden (XBox) - Started, wasn't as hard as people said, I felt like it ripped off DMC and Onimusha a bit too much, which brings me to...
Onimusha 3 (PS2) - First two are two of the best games I've ever played, haven't had time to start

I've never played any of the Halo games

I've played about 5 minutes of the first Resident Evil and never looked back.

Haven't played a Final Fantasy game since III.

Never played Chrono Trigger.

Never played any of the Half Life games.

Never played DOOM.

Never played Ocarina of Time.
I just got around to playing Legend of Zelda Ocarina and I can't see in any way why people prefer it over the 2d ones...? I can't even consider the 2d and 3d ones to be the same series anymore.
It also doesn't help that OoT has aged horribly.

Sell me your Pokemanz cheap, please. :D

As for me, I never owned a PS2, SNES, NES, or Playstation 1. That should give you some idea of what games I missed out on.

Zelda Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
Metal Gear Solid 3
Metroid Prime
Any notable JRPG not called FF7 or 10
Half-Life 1/2 (I bought them both for Counter-Strike)
God of War

I use the term "Classic" loosely, since I cant ever see myself playing certain games, so I'll keep it recent.
It also doesn't help that OoT has aged horribly.
I don't know about that. The combat feels crude, sure, and the lack of camera control compared to the sublime Wind Waker definitely made going back harder on me, but the game still works fairly well.
I've never played Shadow of the Colossus, and incidentally I gave up on ICO after about an hour.
I gave up on ICO years ago after about an hour as well; the wife wasn't into it. However, I gave it another try and just finished it today and played through SotC about a year ago. We gave up on Eternal Darkness as well so I may have to try it again.

Both are fairly short and both are definitely worth your time IMO. SotC is one of my favorite games.

Never played a GTA, Halo or standard RE game (I can't stand tank controls).

Secret of Mana - started this a few times, never got far before moving on to something else.
Metal Gear Solid - just can't seem to "get into" this game (or the other recent entries in the series). The original MG was one of my favorite NES games though.

Some notables (played but not beaten):
Super Mario 64
Zelda-- Adventure of Link, LttP, OOT, MM, Minish Cap, PH, and TP (almost finished MC and TP.) I've only beaten the first one!
Metal Gear Solid 1 -- beating it tonight ;)
