Demon's Souls - Atlus & From Software's Action RPG - October 6

If you guys can one shot red eye knights (doesnt matter with what), I think 1-3 is the easiest and quickest for farming in your first run (not Newgame+).

Just spawn at the Penetrator Archstone, and move back to the 3 red eye knights. Fire an arrow at one to bait it to you, kill it, and repeat with the other 2. It should take less than a minute for each one, you probably won't get hit, and you'll get a shitload of full moon grass.
I just beat him. I did pretty much what you said and
used my ranged attack on the other side of the fire. If he came close to charge I would roll away a few times, he would fly around, land and we would repeat. I peg him with shots, he charges, I roll, etc. Wish I could have killed the first one in time, then the second doesn't come!
Love 3 for it's creepiness and magic items. Don't like lack of souls!
No, if you kill it
the second one still comes
, regardless of speed. I
used the shoot through the fog glitch so the first one was dead by the time I even entered the fog, and the second one still came. Took like 10 minutes of shooting too, as I only had normal arrows and a non-upgraded longbow, so each shot only did like 13 damage  Sadly, I couldn't handle even just one maneater, lol.

I think I'm just gonna farm souls and see if upgrading my stats helps at all.

That sucks. Guide says differently. Maybe I just interpreted it wrong and it is just warning against having 2 at once.

No, I'm pretty sure the guide says to kill it quickly because a second one will show up later, and you don't want to have to fight both at once.

Also, I just accidentally beat it.

No, you said the second doesn't come if you beat the first one fast. The guide says the second one comes no matter what.

Quick, does anyone know what happens if I go through 1-1 without saving the guy? Does he disappear forever, does he automatically move onto 1-2, do I need to rescue him in 1-1 regardlessly?

I didn't realize the boss to 1-4 was through the first fog, and I had two phantoms with me (and had died on 1-4 too many times) so I couldn't suicide. And then, once you beat that you pretty much have to beat the final guy because you can't level up after that until new game +.

This is hilarious, I was invaded on 1-1 right after I opened the boss door. I was going to go back out to the nexus, but when I touched the stone it said I couldn't go back in multiplayer. So, a black phantom shows up in front of me and goes running off. I hide way back behind the beginning of the level and he's currently on his third loop around the level. I wish he'd just give up.

ah I'm almost at NG+, I'm Soul lvl 96, just need to finish up any crystal geckos I missed (I didn't take the left path in 2-2, so gotta hit the nest).

So basically once you beat the boss of 1-4, and thats your last boss, you HAVE to move on to NG+? I thought you had to ask her to open the portal. Or, does she open it right after you talk to her after beating 1-4 boss?
No, you said the second doesn't come if you beat the first one fast. The guide says the second one comes no matter what.
Yes, and then I said I must have misinterpreted... which means what I said before was null and void (READ WRONG). Thanks for being so cool all of a sudden.

Hey, settle down. I didn't say "Hey, asshole! You're fucking wrong", I was trying to be helpful, you said "maybe" so I was just trying to fill in the gap. I meant no ill will.
oh you're in the pantheon chibi, i saw your char lol
Thanks for the heads up. Where am I, #1 most deaths?

I made it to the boss of 3-1 only to die in what probably would have been an easy fight (got caught in the trap things). Luckily I saved freke before that so the trip back to her tomorrow should be easy.

Where is the best place to collect healing items from dead enemies? I seem to remember getting a lot on 1-1, but I might be wrong about that.

no I'm not sure how they rank it, but immediately after entering the pantheon its the list of dudes on the left. It looks like its a list of people who've beaten the game, but I don't know how they ranked it. It's certainly not by soul level, I'm trying to figure it out. Either way, you're on there!

Are you finding New Game + significantly harder? I'm picturing it being like when we initially started the game, enemies do that same proportional amount of damage.

I guess I don't want to be underprepared so I'm still grinding the shit out of those 3 red eye knights in 1-3.

I imagine it's just in order of completion. I'll get knocked off after so many more people complete it, I guess.

1-1 was a bit easier this time through. I actually ran through it in one go unlike the first time. But, that's probably due to me being able to cast a lot of magic this time around.

I'm stuck on tower of Latria 3-1.
Where do I go after I see that bow machine of doom?

I have to redo the whole stage because I fell after I saw the bow machine of doom when I did a detour.. (lol..)

But I'd like to know in advance where to go.
---
And is there a way to get white tendency quicker on a stage? I believe I asked this before but I guess it was ignored.

There's
a key right near the beginning of the path toward the bow. Once it stops shooting, grab it. Then go back to the floor inbetween the floors with Rydell locked up and Freke locked up. There are two locked doors you can now open.

As for world tendency, the quickest way would probably be get to black and then kill the primeval demon that appears once you're pure black. It will take you almost to pure white alone, as far as I understand.
Also, if you get the resurrection spell, you could just sit around summoning phantoms and resurrecting them, I think that would do it too.
Hey Saint Noire, you asshole! You're fucking wrong!
So are you...

At the bow machine, get the key right at the edge of it.
Then go back to where there are two locked gates and that key will open those and you can get behind the machine turn it off and proceed to the boss.

Apparently the quickest way to get pure white is to get pure black first (sounds weird, I know). Then in one go, without returning to the Nexus, kill the NPC black phantom in the level, the primeval demon, and any boss in that level.

Make sure you do it in this order. It doesn't matter if you die, just make sure you do those 3 things before returning to the Nexus.
I feel like an abused spouse, but dang, I keep coming back to this game.

Me too - I'll be back again tonight even though I ws so enraged last night (first time really in playing it).

Anyway, I needs to do this 3-1 business and free that Freke person. Apparently I need to get more spells but my big problem is an utter lack of money to buy all this expensive crap. I guess I have soul gems (the normal ones from soldiers and heros and stuff) to redeem. Maybe I have enough to cover what I need there. There's no other use for those, right?

Yeah, the soldier/hero souls are just free money. Make sure to use when you are spending so you can't lose them. The red/blue dragon soul is also worth a bit and not good for anything else.

All the other spells require boss spells to buy, so you don't need a lot of money to get them. And, no, there is no other use for the hero/soldier souls.
Jodou: How much more difficult is the second playthrough really?
It feels as if your stats were reset back to your starting game. Once you get them up higher again, especially vitality, it levels out. Granted, I picked this game up very quickly and I'm only using the best gear in the game, so it makes a difference.
Jodou have you gotten the Foe's ring yet? It's the only ring I have to collect but I know its gonna be a huge hassle to go from pure white CT (where I am now) to pure black CT just for that one ring.

lemme know if you have, I'd be interested in doing a quick trade just to activate the rogue trophy.
I haven't because I'm focusing on finishing off the pure white events. My NG++ is all pure white now, so I'm going to check 5-1 for Istarelle tonight. Finally got magical sword 'makoto' last night as well.

Question: the boss for 5-3 is supposed to spawn a black phantom of Vinland after you collect Astraea's pureblood soul. Do you actually have to kill her for this event in pure white or can you just let her suicide after killing Vinland the first time? The wiki is pretty vague since you can fight the boss either way.
Anyone got any tips on Maneater? fucker keeps killing me in like 2 hits. I saw on the walkthrough on gamefaqs that
you can shoot arrows through the fog to take out the first one. Cheap, but I did it. But then the second one appears and I still have to deal with one. The same guide said that if you hide behind the brazier, he can't hit you with his attacks or spells, but you can hit through with your spear... Um, I can hit him with my spear sometimes and he can most def. hit me through the fire
This guy is really starting to piss me off in a way that Flamelurker (only other boss I've had a problem with) never did. At least with Flamelurker I got his HP down to a sliver and then usually died cuz I got greedy, but I can't even land hits on this bastard!
Fast, hard DPS while warding is up. Just make sure to position yourself so that you can recover easily, even if that means approaching from the front. I can't imagine doing this fight without warding on.
Dammit, I didn't realize you couldn't go into the lava AT ALL in 2-2. I thought you could because there was an item out there. How do you get that?

I am kind of pissed because here's what happened. I played for a long time fighting bugbears and such and got about 15,000 souls (a lot more than I had ever gotten before without returning). I even did the bit where you jump down to where the black phantom is supposed to be. I sniped the two crystal lizards, etc... Then I figured out how to get back to the lava tubes (which was not easy and the online guide was dead wrong about it). I fought more bugbears in all those tunnels which was time consuming as I had to wait for my MP to regen.

Then I went out to a lava area and killed a bugbear who dropped a treasure right at the edge of the lava. I went to get it and just as I bent over to get it I thought I got killed by one of the stupid flying bugs. So I went all the way back there again (a bit easier as I went the other way - still had to kill bugbears though). I collected even more souls and then got to that spot, killed the bugbear, put the flame resistance ring on, then walked the edge. This time i died again but wasn't attacked. I realized then that I had been killed by the lava not the stupid bug :bomb:. So I started back up again and by this time it was really late (like 5am last night) and I got sloppy and the stupid fat minister in the mines killed me because I didn't roll fast enough :bomb:.

This was my first fuck fuck fuckity fuck almost-throw-the-controller-through-the-TV moment in this game. I lost about 20,000 souls which I could have used to buy the evacuate spell. Dammit. At least you keep your items so I kept all the shards and whatnot I had collected. But damn...

So, anyway, there is an item way out in the lava - how do you get that?
LOL! I never bothered with that item, because it's nothing rare. You can avoid having to kill every bearbug in those tunnels BTW, so no sense wasting time if you don't want to. I wouldn't recommend farming them either, until you get a sword that can cut through them like butter. 20k seems like a lot now, but I can get that from one mob kill in NG++ lol.

And if that almost made you rage, wait until you fight the boss of that stage.

My character name changed!?..

It was Countess and now it's Cotntness..
o_O was that bug? I was really surprised when I was gonna load my profile..

Yeah, I just went and got that spell. I'll prolly try again tonight and see if it helps. Thanks.
mistype?
Nope, I swear.. I remember it has always been Countess, because it's next to my character name Count.

Lol some guy came in my game as a Black Phantom in Tower of Latria (I got really defensive in the area, and started hiding at corners). But after I saw him and started fighting. I slashed him once with Dual wield mode and he fell on the crack.

Ez.

Nobody ever gets summoned to my fight because of my level. :(

What Soul level are you?

lol, I'm terrible! I didn't realize just how
precise you have to be in melee
with the Royal
since you start out with a piercing weapon--can Royals use regular swords? Damn I didn't read the guide enough. :p
. I hate whiffing and getting hit from behind while I'm running away.

any class can use any weapon (as long as you have the stat requirements for it).

I beat black phantom Scirvir (or whatever his name is) on 2-2. I just sat back with thief/graverobber ring and cast poison cloud like 5 times and he didn't even move. It took like 20 minutes, but it was better than risk dying. Now I want to try to get back to 2-1 to beat the primeval demon to get the WT back up.
What Soul level are you?
~150.
Black world tendency = very hard.
But more rewarding. If you want to farm, 4-2 is the spot in a pure black world. You can make easily ~150k souls per run. For me, that's ONE stat point now.

Same thing can be done to Old King Doran lol. And with any of the unique black phantoms all you have to do is get them to chase you then figure out the point at which they turn around to walk back. Then thiefs ring approach, run them through, run away and repeat. Its a cheap way of doing things but you don't have to worry about dying add poison cloud and its even quicker.

For whoever has fought a primeval demon, are they fast/slow, use short/long range attacks?

I already beat it, and am on my second play through. Final boss was a joke. I didn't even move during the fight. I just sat in the door and blasted soul arrow until he died.

Yeah. I killed Yurt in the nexus using the same tactic and I kill Miralda (non-phantom) in 1-1 doing it too.

Speaking of the Tower of Latria, I went in there last night and got to that arrow shooting thing. No problem, rolled past it but all that was there was some treasure. The FAQ says "walk slowly and it won't shoot you" or something to that effect so I thought maybe I had to walk towards it with my shield up. If you hold up the shield you can walk towards it but the shots knock me back, twist me around, lower my stamina, and then the second or third volley kills me because I'm no longer facing forward. I'm sure the real guide has some better info but I didn't have that handy when I was playing last night. Stupid FAQ though :bomb: with it's less than useful info.

Hmm - OK, the real guide isn't much better except that it does say you have to go right in front of the arrow shooting statue to get the next key. It doesn't say how to do that though. Can you sort of move pillar-to-pillar and hide behind those? It seems like maybe I could move out, absorb one hit, then get behind the next pillar and let the stamina regen.

io: For the key by the arrow shooting statue, the key is right next to the start of the bridge leading up to the statue. You don't need to get up to it. Once you get the key, the door it unlocks leads you around the back of the statue where you can turn it off.

I found Tower of Latria pretty creepy. Also
getting killed by one of the mind flayers...classic. Stuns you and then comes up to eat your brains
easily one of my most favorite deaths in a game...better than Dead Space even. Died because I got pwned.:applause:

Also I found the Valley of Defilement (5-1) thusfar to be very oppressive and creepy with the rickety boardwalks and overall rain/swampiness of the place.
