Demon's Souls - Atlus & From Software's Action RPG - October 6

First my computer breaks, then I order a PS3 controller and it arrives broken, and now my PS3 breaks all within a week. Dear god. When will this madness end?

I'm guessing I'll lose my character after I send it to Sony for repairs and my drive gets reformatted? This is BS I don't want to have to play my 360 :whistle2:o ...or pay $150 and lose my character. Killing my PC and PS3 in the same week is like the perfect storm of killing my entertainment.

Edit: At least I got my Demon's Souls disc out before it stopped turning on for more than a few seconds.
Timewise, NG+ has been a lot quicker. But I just feel I need breaks after having to try a lot harder on stages. The enemies do start to use some of their advanced tactics more the higher you go with NG++s, but not so much in just NG+.

The good news is that the difference between your first game and your first NG+ is by far the biggest in terms of stronger enemies. It becomes a lot less noticeable on later plays.
I'm used to playing builds that get killed in one hit by many things on even the first playthrough, so the higher damage isn't an issue at all, I'm used to having to dodge and block everything or I die already. The issue is that the amount of life enemies have and damage I do are so ridiculously different that it takes much longer to kill things. It doesn't make it any harder, just more time consuming.

I don't see how NG+ could be quicker for you. I could see how that would be true if you've only used one character and compared to when you were new to the game learning your first runthrough and your now more experienced self with your NG+ run now, but make a new character and blaze through the first run with all your current knowledge and I bet you could do it faster than your NG++++++ whatever run.

I explored everything in my first play... I grinded for souls and ores... on top of being wary of everything. This time I skipped lots of stuff... it has been quicker even with doing all the black WT stuff. You are right about some enemies having a ludicrous amount of HP. And yeah, I could run through faster on a new game than I initially did.

EDIT - Small tidbit from an interview making the rounds...

Regarding the possibility of a sequel, Miyazaki said he couldn't give a direct answer, but noted that the team learned a great deal on Demon's Souls and there were several things that didn't make it into the game. Given the opportunity, Miyazaki said he would "welcome the chance to create an even better game in the same style."

Ok, for those people who have played NG+ and NG++ and so forth, I have a question.

I'm almost done NG+, and I'm Slvl 205 or so. Now I've heard that even once you hit Lvl 712 (max lvl), enemies will still do a ton of damage. Basically it sounds like each NG+ or NG++ you start up, the game looks at your Slvl and matches enemies to that level.

Anyone have this experience? If I grind, will it not matter in the end cause enemies level up with you each time you start a NG+? Please let me know, as I don't want to waste time grinding for no reason.

Finished False King. Now, I'm going to kill most everyone in the Nexus and then beat it.

I would love a sequel (in a couple years), but I think I'd really like if they did DLC for the 6th Archstone, though I doubt that will ever happen.

According to the guide the game has preset levels of increment, it's not based directly on your character.

I beat it and then beat 1-1. I was able to get up 5 levels from all the souls I got in 1-4 and the end game! I had like 700K. It now takes me like 120K souls for one level. I can't imagine leveling up more than 3 or 4 times in all of NG++

i have a maybe a stupid question. I am gonna do the whole turn black to white tendency on stage 2. I have already killed flamelurker, so i'm wondering if it it would still work if i killed the dragon god instead. Because in the guide it says you have to kill a major demon

It should.

Hey, Chibi, I gained lots of levels the last few days and I'm up to 93 now. Where are you at now? I'd like to "borrow" a foe's ring if you have it - I'll have to check but it may very well the last ring I need. I did just get the friend's ring. It did require that I beat all 5 black phantom NPC's. Satsuki was much easier than I anticipated with my moon winged spear +5 and clever rats ring. He did heal once but since I was doing about 130 damage with each hit this time (as opposed to 25 before) it didn't take much to get him down again.

Then I went through 4-2, finally, and defeated the Old Hero. 4-2 is pretty tough (the level, anyway - the boss was easy) if you don't know what's coming but once I went through it a few times I have it down pat. I can see why Jodou and others were talking about farming there. With the ring of avarice and a couple runs though it (with the WT near white no less) I ended up with about 80K after beating the boss - which is more than I've ever had at once. Then I took out Old King Doran for good measure (which, by the way, makes a big hit on your WT - it went from pure white to neutral after I did that. Hopefully there's no need to kill Miralda - is her armor any good?). So all I have left is 4-3 and then 1-4 and the end.

One thing that makes the upgrading trophies very hard that I didn't consider until tonight is that you need to get all the base weapons to +6, usually, before you can use the different stones to upgrade from there. I have a lot of the special stones completed (as in enough to do the full upgrade when I can get something to +6), but my problem is going to be in having enough sharpstones. Yeah, you can buy the shards from the vendor in 2-1, but the chunks are going to be hard to come by. I probably screwed up in that I upgraded a Unichagata (or whatever that is called) to +6 so I could make a crescent one which looked like one of the better weapons you could make. However, I could have saved all the sharpstones I used in getting it to +6 by simply upgrading the crescent falchion + 1 that I had in my inverntory. Oh well... I wanted to make the large sword of searching but that is a tough one with it requiring a base +8 weapon. Are there any other shortcut weapons for the other upgrades so I don't have to waste more sharpstones?

And the bladestones are a strange one - I have over 100 shards (Thomas won't store any more for me and I'm stuck carrying 8 ), yet very few beyond that and of course no pure on that one. Who was it here who had the bladestone upgraded weapon? I'd like to "borrow" that, too, if possible.

If you can't store any more shards with Stockpile Tom, just drop em. Shards are pretty easy to come by, and you don't need more than 99 to get a weapon to max level. I'd keep some chunks, but its harder to get 99 chunks of anything.

io, it's actually pretty easy to get a weapon to +6. You only need shards and large pieces of sharpstone or hardstone, and the merchant in 2-1 sells those to you at a pretty cheap price. No grinding needed there, except maybe for the souls to buy them.

sharpstones have been very common drops for me on 1-2. I have a ton of those shards. The large ones are harder to come by, but I get the small ones more than any other so far.

I've been doing most of 4-1 over and over just to practice my melee. I should just finish the level already, but for some weird reason I can't bring myself to do it.

My fault ChibiJosh. Had a connection die and on the boss I got messed up due to the lock on... he was right above my head and my camera went all crazy... hope you win. If not, let me know!

I won. But it was super-intense! I had to use second chance like 7 times. I went through like 40 spices. I kept using firestorm (which in my last game managed to kill them both one hit with), but he kept hitting me right after using it so he'd only get hit once and then it would get canceled out.

Edit: Platinum!

The 2-1 merchant does not sell the large shards of sharpstone, so I need to grind, apparently. Unless another merchant sells them?

Um, yeah, I had tons of them. But once you upgrade a winged spear to +6 to turn into a moon winged spear, then another to +10 for the sharpstone trophy, then an Unchigatana to +6 to turn into a crescent weapon, you tend to run out . And considering that I still have several upgrades left to do with sharpstones I'm going to need 100's more of them. For example, the large sword of searching requires a +8 base weapon and that in itself will use a ton more. Sure, you can buy the little shards for 500 each, but it's the large ones that will be a pain. I'm just wondering how other people platinumed this game because it seems no one ever talks about the pain of doing all the base upgrades.

So I have the choice between this second chance and the large sword of searching (using the Hero DS). How does this second chance thing work? Do you just cast it and it is in effect the whole time, or does it wear off? Where do you revive?

Second chance doesn't wear off, it lasts until you die. You don't really revive exactly. When you're HP runs out, it just heals you to 50% of your HP. So, the action doesn't stop.

Nice. I'll have to start using this.

I just beat Maneater and this time I went melee. I used North Regalia and
chopped off his snake tale after just a few shots to it... didn't know you can do this. Just happened to be the first few shots I took at it were targeted there. This also limits its attacks some as well.

I also got my pure moonlight stone just outside the monk's room. So glad when I saw it drop!

Interesting - it seems I might want to get that for NG+ instead of the large sword of searching, then, if NG+ is as much harder as people are saying.

Saint Noir - the 2-2 merchant? Oh yeah, the guy over in the area above the bugbears, right? I only ever went there once. Guess I'll make a little visit. I may try the bugbears again now that I have the moon winged spear +5. They ought to be much easier. And maybe I can bring the brushwood armor and go into the lava.

Yeah. That guy. Pain as he is right were that bunch of flying bearbugs try to ambush you.

Large sword is very useful for farming and for getting good stuff out of geckos. So, you would want that too... I use it fairly often. You can get to Old Hero pretty quick if you need to in a NG+. So, either way you go, you will be fine.

Is any excess damage negated then? Or is it possible to get hit so hard it drains your 50% refill, so to say?

Also where is the info on all the trophies or what we need to do, to platinum?

Problem is, you can't use warding while it's active. To clarify, your HP is just extended to 150% meaning things can still one-shot you. I stopped using second chance altogether, because warding is far superior.

You can't still get one shotted. If you get hit for more than your HP, you still get 50% back. That's why people suggest you use it when trying to get past the dragon on 1-4. At least that's what it seemed from my experiences with it, everytime I got killed I got roughly half of my HP back.

I am level 44 now, and I have 22 hours in the game. I have now completed 5-1, 2-2, and 2-3. Also, I was able to get the pure greystone from Scirvir, and I got the Dragon Bone Crusher from 2-3.

This game is so good!

Hey, you don't have to take my word for it:
Functions as if your HP were increased by 50%. Revives caster once HP reaches 0, immediately adding 50% of total HP back, but any damage in excess of what killed the caster immediately applies to refunded HP.
Straight off the wiki and I've been one-shot with it on, so believe what you want.

I've been one-shotted by the black phantom Octopus men in 3-3, even WITH second chance, so yeah, you can still get one-shotted.

Jodou, would you be up for helping me beat 5-2 and 5-3 at some point? All the trophies I've got left are the spell/miracle ones, so I've got about 2 more playthroughs after this lol.

If three's company too, I'd be happy to roll through there with you as well.

If you yourself have any of the weapons I need to hold, I'd appreciate it. :D

That was one of the things I got hit by and lived with second chance (while wearing ring of magic sharpness and monk's head wrapping which both lower magic defense).

Speaking of monk's head wrapping, I have like 6 of them.
Speaking of monk's head wrapping, I have like 6 of them.
Those things are way too big... a few times when I was running ahead of you, all I could see was monk head wrapping taking up my WHOLE screen.

Saint Noir, I'm like, Slvl 210. I think Jodou is around 220. Hopefully you're around there ;)

BTW Jodou, I think I hit (or you hit) Biorr when we fought Penetrator...cause I ran into him fighting the blue dragon and he said fuck it and started coming after me. I had to kill him to get past the dragon w/o dying and now my CT isn't pure white anymore lol. Now I have to kill 2 black phantom NPC's to get it back...lol. OH well.

My fault. For some reason my brain processed it as Chibi. No, it will be a long time before I am up to that point!

Yeah, I know. Sometimes I had a hard time seeing where I was going or enemies in front of me. After we got the boss area open in 3-2 and I was running back to the first tower, I didn't see that first facebug and I nearly shat my pants when it jumped on top of me.

Lol, why didn't you msg me on PSN? I was playing SWTFU all day and just finished getting all the trophies. We can breeze through them whenever you want.

EDIT: I'll be on later tonight; playing Borderlands with some friends.

ah speaking of Borderlands bro, are you playing it on PS3? I bought it on release day on PS3 but it had so many bugs I got a refund for it. I'm thinking of buying it again now that most of the issues I ran into appear to be patched.

Can you hook me up with some stuff? lol, I'm playing as Lilith.

Just beat 5-2 and 5-3 (those were some easy bosses)

What's the deal with the plague pit in the 5-3 boss fight, I want to get the items in there but the plague kills me really fast. Should I just jump onto the item grab it die and leave the souls?

I told you, I got it for PC lol.

BTW guys, I found out about a dupe bug weeks ago but didn't really think much of it until tonight. Couple weeks ago, I was in the pantheon and some guy had SL 712 with 25 deaths. He (and a few others) had popped up practically overnight, so I knew they had found a glitch. Turns out I was right and he even posted it on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91YT4VVzUkQ

Now, the dupe part I knew about but making stacks of 99 Legendary Hero's Souls sounded mighty tedious. However, the method to all this is that your character isn't saving, so what you can do (and this is fucking fast as hell) is SOULSUCK them dry. Once they hit SL 1, they DC and do the same to you. Then you both go and level up as far as you can (so that the next round is even faster), then rinse/repeat. You can take a new character from level one to 712 in a day or two doing this.

I guess it's kinda pointless to do unless you just want a max level character, but your name is in lights up in the pantheon. I was actually #2 in the US at one point, but since I quit playing I have fallen off. I wouldn't mind doing this with someone if they really wanted to, just for the fun of exploiting. ;)

I can confirm this. Not sure what happened to yours, pecan, but starting a NG+ shouldn't wipe your demon souls.

I believe you have to finish 1-1 again before the boss souls will become available since the Maiden will not level you further until you complete it.

The only thing you shouldn't have after completing 1-1 in NG+, etc. is the keys from the first playthrough...

I've killed him and gained stats in NG + already, but still a no go.

Sucks too, because I only saved them to clear some trophies later :whistle2:#

Possible spoiler if you haven't finished-
I even lost the maiden's soul you don't get till completing the game

You still have the soul from beating the last boss, right? (maiden or beast)
Did you have the souls on you or did you give them to Thomas? I usually gave them all to Thomas if I wasn't going to use them right away. But, I currently have 2 souls from the 1-4 boss, 3 souls from the 4-2 mini-boss, etc. And, in my second playthrough, I used the armor spider soul for two things (lava bow and ignite), so I started the playthrough with it from the first playthrough.

I always carried them on me for some reason. It just seems like it was a slight bug because after checking Thomas and my inventory a few times to make sure I wasn't somehow overlooking almost 15 boss souls I reset my console and they reappeared. :D

Can you even back up your characters in this game? I know the characters saves are copy protected but would doing a full hard drive back up and restore work?

Damn I'm not looking forward to leveling up again. At least I can get a scraping spear really quickly and get my revenge on red phantoms.
