Diablo III / Diablo II Battle.net Thread

Combo of both. Paragon levels do start helping once you hit 100 or so. I just hit 180 and I'm getting 45% extra crit damage, almost 4K extra LOH, 225 Resist All, and 22.5% additional movespeed. The crit and resist definitely helps out quite a bit.

That being said, I've also spent quite awhile piecing gear together. Keep in mind set bonuses. I'm currently getting 8% additional attack speed from having two pieces of Cains set, and 250 additional dexterity from having two pieces of Natalyas set. Take a look at the various sets of gear and find one or two that work well for what you're trying to do and work towards those. The free bonuses to your stats can be a big boost.

Quick question. How much DPS is recommended for starting T1? I have around 350K buffed right, 305k just straight as a Wizard. I don't need to stomp through T1 but I at least want to be able to grab chests and stuff comfortably.

Good question.... I would like to know that myself. (Though I'll likely still just play on normal till I finish the expansion.

I made a bit of progress last night...

I started the Path of War and I'm on my way to the Pandemonium Fortress... Anyone want to give a guess on how much time I have left with fully exploring the areas I go through?

T1 is not that bad. I've done it on a Wiz with only around 200k dps. You can always just try it and if you feel like it's too hard you can turn the setting down without having to exit the game. You can always change to a lower setting while in the game, you just can't change to a higher one without exiting.

For SC, just jump in and see. I'd imagine 300K would be okay, albeit slightly slow.

For HC, I personally wouldn't go into T1 with less than 400-500K DPS and roughly 8M toughness (this number also depends on whether your toughness is made up mostly of resists/armor or HP). You want enough damage so that you can get monsters down without having to endure their damage for long periods, especially when it comes to champion or elite packs.

This! Try it, you can always instantly lower it. Run for a bit, and know that sometimes you just hit a nasty champion pack (or two together). (I'm assuming you're not playing in YOLO.)

Also those numbers aren't the end all-be-all and miss very important things. For example my Wizard has +74% arcane damage which isn't factored into that number. Also the ability to have some non-single-target damage makes clearing trash a lot faster.

Int based classes get INT/10 in all resist, which is nice. Also checkout the tooltip mouseovers in the detail character sheet in-game. It will tell you % dmg reduction that your resists give, and other such great tidbits.

Also, try joining some public games on T1 even if you can't handle it solo. As long as there are some tankier classes in same game, you should be OK....but get the T1 XP and drops. I know i can handle higher T-levels in MP, from experience (assuming the above and that they know what they are doing for the most part)

Looted the Blacksmith's Plans for the Born's set tonight. I am very pleased. Are the BS plans worth crafting?

Got a question on deciding on gear. Basically I have two pieces. One with +14 cold damage (use Arcane Orb + frozen rune), the other has +100 more int and +100 more vit. Trying to decide which piece is better in the long wrong.

Does 100 int increase your dmg by ~14%? I'm quite certain it doesn't. +14% to your primary elemetal dmg is very strong. (and not included in the sheet-dmg)

Keeping the Cold Damage. I just got two nice enchant rolls on my gear so I get 19% extra dmg on my Arcane Orb in addition to my +14% cold damage. I average about 400k dmg buffed now. Is the % extra damage factored into the dmg stats they show?

Just need to get some more toughness on my Wiz. Tried T1 and I don't have enough survivability yet for a huge pack of enemies. Either that or I need to adjust my skills but I will figure that out later.

Nah, as a Wizard you should have enough toughness. I don't know what your life regen is but it's nice to have some on your gear.

For survivabilty ickup what you need from skills/passives, it's quite customizable. I swap things up as needed (and go max surv for mathiel).

All bad damage is elemental effects (mainly ground effects). You're lucky since by stacking int you're stacking a lot of resist (INT/10).

Unstable Anomoly (passive), Dominance (passive), Unwavering Will (passive, better for channeled spells), & magic weapon - deflection (lots of small shields on attack) are my main go-tos.

For heavier/totally pasive reduction, Blur (passive) is solid.

For special-case (matheil), use Energy Armor - Force Armor (reduces big hits to 35% of max hp), and Galvanizing Ward (passive, requires not taking dmg for 5 sec).

You can easily customize a mix of those to suit your needs.... but a lot of the bad damage is elemental ground effects... get out of them when they start hurting you... Illusionist (passive) + Teleport - Wormhole is excellent (and also good for getting distance between you and hard hitters).

On gear, stats with an orange diamond in front of them are not accounted for in sheet damage calculations.

Seriously just died on my 70 HC Crusader. Got a full Aughilds set last night, had 15M toughness (1300 all resist, 19K armor, and 450K HP) and 600K DPS. I entered a T1 rift and about a third of the way through ran into five champion/elite mobs from what I could count (all stacked on top of each other, because why not). I got chain frozen with like half a dozen arcane lasers spawned right on top of me. Total bullshit.

EDIT

Alright, it definitely seems as if they ninja buffed some of the rift maps. The one I died on (the maze like map that leads up to Mal) definitely has WAY higher density than normal. Same goes for a few other maps. I've seen it consistently on some maps and I've now seen some streamers mention it.

So yeah, heads-up to those going into some Torment rifts, there is a chance you will get overwhelmed and totally ass-fucked.

Wouldn't surprise me if they did buff mob density in rifts. I did notice that I haven't run into any "empty" rifts lately. I think the worst rift I've gotten the last couple days are the ones with the lack of elite packs.

Q: Does the gear roll when the bag is found, or opened?
A: The level of the gear and the act the bag was earned in is set when Tyrael hands it over, but the actual items roll their stats when the bag is opened. This is why it used to be possible to get
wiki_icon.png
Imperial gems from Normal difficulty bags if you opened them in
wiki_icon.png
T6. The items in the bag will be at the level of the char who found them. For instance, opening bags found by a lvl 70 DH with your level 60 WD will get you WD-themed items (INT on the mainstat, lots of WD helms and knives, etc) but all the items will be level 70, and all the gems will be
wiki_icon.png
Marquise. This means you can cross-class farm a bit with bounty bags; the opening class will get more appropriate items for their class and the
wiki_icon.png
mainstat will usually roll correctly.

I love high density rifts. It's random if you get them. Just like some are full of Elites and Champions and some are just full of trash.

I'm finally able to solo T1 rifts comfortably. Didn't realize how much the sheet dps meant jack and everything else coming together for damage for my monk until recently.

Embarrassing fun fact: up until a few days ago I didn't know you could right click to identify items. Been using book of Cain this whole time Lollll

Pssh, I didn't know that until earlier today :p

A heads up:

I've hooked up with some old friends on the EU servers where lag for me is a little... more consistent. As such I've not been on the US side for a while.

As chief ("Major Loao") of I feel a bit cheeky heading up a clan and being somewhat absent. If anybody wants to take the reins, you're more than welcome to do so.

Send me a PM on here if you want the role. You don't need to do anything per se, just be more visible than me.

:whee:

Edit: looks like we've found a willing victim. Will handover sometime this weekend.

So Blizzard decided to ninja nerf some stuff on Easter. Crusader's Blade of Prophecy weapon is now limited to 2 extra condemn procs and the conduit pylon now does less damage.

edit: Blizzard has come out and said nothing has been done regarding the "nerfs". I guess people are just freaking out about nothing then.

I am assuming the gem you socket in the helm that increases your magic find, also increases your chance to find legendaries? I just put one in last night before I logged for the night and I just want to be sure I am making a good decision.

Got a legacy ring yesterday. My current yellow ring is better than that, lol. Although they changed the set bonus to reduces time against slow which is nice.

Magic find now means a lot less than it did in vanilla d3 and certainly d2. Depending on the character, current gear, etc. I'd recommend tossing an amethyst in the helm for the life boost.

i'm always torn on what to put in my helm sockets: i usually throw a ruby in mine for exp boost or diamond for cooldown reduction. but i die a lot (as in...a lot), so maybe i should switch to an amethyst.

At level 70 Magic Find for legendaries only works at 1/10 it's value. It's capped at 330%... so best you could get is +33% legendary find (sacrificing a lot of core stats). You're better off gearing for combat and killing more things faster, imo.

Imo, head socket is for +X% heath or +Y% Cooldown reduction, whichever is better for your build.

Unless I'm leveling a character to 70, I don't use +exp in the helm. The paragon benefits are outweighed by more health or quicker cool down IMO.

Finally I feel comfortable enough to solo T1 on my Wiz without problems.

Debating what my last skill (or change up on one of the main ones) should be. I have the Electrocute, Arcane Orb (with frozen), Magic Weapon, Energy Armor, and Familiar combo but I am debating if I should keep Teleport as my last skill or use something else? Keeping Arcane Orb because I got +damage gear for that spell.

Thanks

Question about crafting:

I picked up half a dozen legendary crafting mats (has there been a buff to drop rates?) last night. I still only have one L70 legendary recipe - the guaranteed drop from Malthael.

Are there specific mobs to farm for plans? Or should I just kill random stuff and see what comes up?

I am under the impression that plans drop randomly and the mats are specific to a few rare spawn for each.
Correct. Outside of a couple exceptions like Inferno Machine Plans, Staff of Herding Plans or Reaper Wraps Plans that only drop from specific enemies.

A friend also told me he received the level 70 Hellfire Ring recipe as a drop and didn't have to buy it for 5 million gold either.

Thanks for the clarification guys.

One of the vendors (I forget which, some guy in Act IV?) sells some legendary plans for millions of gold. Are these useful in any way? Or are they old L60 items?

(I crafted the Staff or Herding long ago)

I believe those are the new lvl 70 Hellfire ring plans.

I personally find teleport invaluable (esp with the passive that resets it on 15% dmg). My main nuke (Arcane Torrent) is channeled, so moving and dpsing are exclusive, so not having to run-reposition works well for me. That said, try getting rid of it, and see if it causes any issues.

Switched my Wiz from Arcane Orb with Frozen to a full on fire build. My god my fun increased 300% and now I feel like I can take on a pack of mobs without worrying about dying. Granted it's still T1 until I can replace some of my yellows.

My crits went from 3 mil with arcane orb to 10 mil with explosive blast and I just had a 27 mil crit with meteor.

Yea, i'm 100% fire right now too. Working with double hydra since i have the weapon with that bonus - but hoping to come across the one with a triple explosive blast bonus at some point or a nice weapon with more fire dmg. At 72% fire dmg bonus right now,

you know, this server maintenance crap is really inconvenient for me. blizzard should look into it...

Yup, its always during the waking hours of my weekend...

I guess that just means that WoW and me where never suppose to be a thing... (Which is just as as well... I've never played it and have no wish to do so.)

Apparently Blizzard thinks I should only be getting legendaries for things I have legendaries already slotted for, lol. So my past 10 or so legendaries have been for either bracers, gloves or maces.

Hopefully I get something new soon.

Yeah I am really liking full on fire for a Wizard. I sometimes miss teleport for the mobs that have arcane or frozen but besides that, I am a killing machine and I never run out of mana. Sure it's more CD based but the damage output is insane.

I've been having mana issues with my WD (my main) so I shelved her this weekend for my barbarian. I switched him too pure fire as well and even with my cinder coat and andariels having intelligence rolls, I'm much more viable in T1. Now I just need some magefists and a strength roll maximus.

Did Blizzard fix the random logout issue yet? Last night I literally just opened a rift, and before I could enter I got logged out. I was annoyed, lol. There went 5 tokens...
