dropping off pre-paid packages (USPS), Pitney Bowes on paypal?

Has anyone had any problems in the past? With the gas prices soaring I'm lazy even to go to USPS at times. Is it just good to go to drop off over in the big blue box with USPS's logo. On the other hand has anyone tried dropping off something in the blue box that has exceeded 13 oz? Also are the prepaid packages safe to put in the outgoing mailbox where the mail man delivers and picks up packages?

This is what the PO has on their website:
Domestic and international mailpieces that weigh 13 ounces or less, with postage stamps affixed, can be dropped in a blue collection box, or handed to your letter carrier. Mailpieces that weigh more than 13 ounces, with postage stamps affixed, must be handed to a Retail associate at your local Post Office.


If you have something over 13 ounces, you can schedule a free pick-up if you have at least 1 package that is priority mail.

I am pretty sure if the package is over 13 ounces and has a printed label (Like from Pitney Bowes) it can go into the blue collection box... But I am not 100% positive.

??? any packages paid via the Paypal/Pitney system are eligible to be put out for your mail carrier.
I've been putting them out for almost a year with no issues.
IF I have a package too big for my mailbox, I just put a nice note in my mailbox directing my mail person to my porch.
No issues and no gas wasted to date

Starting Monday, July 30 [2007], customers can use one of several convenient online postage applications — available 24/7 — or an Automated Postal Center, if they wish to mail items that weigh more than 13 ounces in Postal Service collection boxes or Post Office lobby mail slots; or if they wish to leave the items for pickup by their letter carriers. Online postage applications include the Postal Service’s Click-N-Ship service on usps.com and PC Postage from an authorized USPS vendor.

Correct.

I've dropped packages in blue boxes and the big drop boxes at the post office, never had a problem regardless of weight or shipping method as long as it was printed labels.

Now, if you use actual stamps to pay for your package, then you'll have to hand it to a postal worker if it weights over 13 oz.

sweet my local shopping plaza by safeway has the blue boxes also, so this can save me some gas instead of driving the post office

Yeah a label from PayPal means the package does not have postage stamps affixed so the 13 oz thing shouldn't apply.

this is my method of shipping games as there are several drop boxes within walking range, i always drop them in with labels from pitnew bowes and have had no problems and all packages have arrived, i have also dropped packages (bubble mailers) with postage affixed and dropped it in and those have been shipped aswell. However, i have never shipped anything exceeding 13oz. i usually ship 1 -3 games weighing at 3 oz a piece.

I use paypal shipping and give them to our carrier on a daily basis, whether its 5 or 50, they take them and scan the scan sheet

I almost always drop off items in the blue mailboxes. My Post Office closes early (2:00) so I can't get there by then. I have put items weighing 2 pounds in them before.
